She was employed with the Sumter County Board of Education and worked within the school system's cafeterias. She was also employed with Magnolia Manor in Americus as a Housekeeper. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. On July 25, 1944, Mr. Elijah Holmes Jr. was born to the late Mr. Elijah Holmes Sr. and the late Mrs. Exie Kinchens Holmes. He was born in Dooly County, Georgia and the family later moved to Cordele, Georgia. Elijah was educated in the public schools of Crisp County, Georgia. He accepted Christ and worshipped at the Church of Christ. Elijah better known as “Lijah” was a quiet person who liked to keep to himself. He enjoyed fishing, upholstering and fixing up old cars. He loved to dress nice. Elijah worked at Helena Chemical Company in Cordele, Georgia until his health failed. Mr. Elijah was a long time resident of the Pinehill Nursing Center of Byromville, Georgia. On Monday, April, 20, 2020 he peacefully transitioned from this life at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his son James Junior Merrell. His hobby included repairing lawn mowers, weed eaters, and bicycles (he enjoyed riding his bike). Jacquelyn also was loyal attendee at Christian Life Church in Montezuma, Georgia. She was educated in the public school system of Macon and Fulton Counties. In 1977, she graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She furthered her education at Rutledge College where she was received a diploma as a Medical Assistant. Jacquelyn enjoyed reading, gardening, singing, walking, exercising, tutoring kids, and spending time with her family. On July 18, 1985 two hearts became one Jacquelyn and Garry Roberts were joined in holy matrimony. She was raised by her stepmother Mrs. Christine Martin. She is preceded in death by three children Johnny Frank Riggin, Artis Riggin, Liz Jones, a step son Lawrence Haslem Jr., siblings James Martin, Melvin Martin, Willie B. Martin, Carrie Troutman, Martha Sanders, and Alice Caldwell. She was educated within the Macon County Community. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savoir and joined the Christian believers at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to First United Holiness Church where she served in the choir, usher board, and on the mother board. For many years she was employed as a housekeeper for local families. She enjoyed sewing, singing in the choir, and spending time with her family. In 1975, a season of love was in full bloom, when Nissie was married to the late Pate Felton. They were wed in holy matrimony on August 7, 1975. She leaves a lifetime of memories to her beloved family including her five children, Laura O’Neal, Detroit, Michigan, Patrica Riggin-Collins, Detroit, Michigan, Charles Riggins (Kim), Rex Georgia, Calloway Riggins (Sylvia), Clinton Township, Michigan, and Keith Felton, Montezuma, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; three sisters Annette Smith, Montezuma, Georgi, Mary Hill , and Roberta Stockner (Robert), all of Naples, Florida; host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, Elder Michael Coley and her First United Holiness Church Family. ![]() Elder Emmett Battle, age 65, 806 Willis Street, Americus, Georgia passed April 6, 2020 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, 677 Church Street NE, Marietta, Georgia. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date and time. Emmett was an exceptional person who was born March 13, 1955 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Henry T. Battle and the late Josephine Kelley Battle. Emmett had a zeal for learning and hands-on education. He was a 1973 graduate of historic Marion County High School. With his interest in cars, he immediately enrolled at South Georgia Technical College where he pursued a degree in Auto Mechanic Collision and Body Repair. Service to his country was also another interest of his; he enlisted into the United States Army in 1974 and was honorably discharged in 1977. May the service he rendered his country be forever cherished by a grateful nation. He enjoyed a tour of duty with the Buena Vista Police Department for over two years. He attended Valdosta State University for his teaching certification. Emmett was employed with the Marion County Board of Education and retired after twenty-eight years of dedicated services. His work ethics were not limited to education. For thirty seven years he was a servant of God, carrying and preaching about the Savior, Jesus Christ. Servant of God, well done, rest from thy love employ, the battle is fought, the victory is won, enter thy master’s joy. Emmett was united in holy matrimony to his one and only love, Ellen Sales and to this union they were blessed with four children. One child, Patrick Battle, and one grandchild, Patrice Battle, preceded him in death. Life for Emmett was a pleasure to live, he enjoyed detailing cars, playing basketball, checkers, spades (he was known as military champ in spades), and spending time with his family especially his grands. Survivors include a loving and devoted wife of forty-two years, Ellen Sales Battle; three children, Keeyon Battle and Sarah Battle Brown (Dallas) all of Americus, Georgia and Kevin Battle, Buena Vista, Georgia; four grandchildren, Shaniya Battle, Christian Battle, Kamiya Battle and Ayden Battle; four siblings, Pearlene Josey (James), Henry T.
