Mae Ola Tullis Cobb Louis, age 88, 405 South Jackson Street, Americus, Georgia passed on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Thomas Mill Road, Plains, Georgia. Bishop James Lundy will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Mae Ola Tullis was born March 1, 1932 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Charlie and Ella White Tullis. She was preceded in death by three children, Robert Tullis, Arthur Louis Tullis, Glenda Windstead; seven siblings, Rev. Johnny Will Lundy, Nettie Clark, Fred Tullis, Bessie Tullis, Amanda Baker, Grover Tullis (Mattie) and Jerry Dean Lundy.  She was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. She was a member of Mitchell Grove Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, secretary of the church, and mother of the church. She was great supporter of the church she loved so well. She was married to the late Charles Louis.

Survivors are her children, Lora Wells, Charlie Tullis, Vera Tullis Butler (Chris), Bernice Tullis (Joseph Nelson), Linda King (David K. Allen), Detroit, Michigan, John King, Americus, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Solomon, Americus, Georgia; a host of nieces, including devoted niece, Catherine Sims, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Deacon Nathaniel Thornton, Sr., age 59, 212 Clarence Way Dr., Ellaville, Georgia passed Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.

A wake service will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel Inc, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020, Hopewell Cemetery, Hope Well Church Rd., Ellaville, Georgia. The Reverend Lem Wright, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church, will officiate.

Deacon Thornton was born July 16, 1960 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Ellis Thornton, Sr. and the late Willie Bell Myrick Thornton. He was a 1978 graduate of Tri County High School and a graduate of South Georgia Technical College with a degree in welding technology. He was employed with Davison Techtron Automotive for fourteen years as a machine operator.

Deacon Thornton joined the band of Christian Believers at the Jerusalem Baptist Church where he served as Chairperson of the Deacon Board Ministry. He was also an elected official of the Ellaville City Council where he served for eight dedicated years.

In 2003 he was united in holy matrimony to the former Shearlean Shelton and to this union they were blessed with seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings Johnnie B. Solomon, Robert Solomon, Patricia Solomon, and Rosetta Blackshear.

He leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to his beloved wife of seventeen years, Mrs. Shearlean Shelton Thornton, Ellaville, Georgia; seven children, Nathaniel Thornton, Jr., Cornelius Ross, Shakedrian Ross, Tekendrean Ross, Yaneitra Ross, Carmetrick Ross, and Markendous Thornton all of Ellaville, Georgia; twenty-three grandchildren; five siblings, Mary Morrison, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Ruby Solomon, Ellaville, Georgia, Bobbie (Sylvester) Gainey, Dexter, Georgia, Ellis Thornton, Jr., Buena Vista, Georgia, and Linda Murray, Ellaville, Georgia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lamar (Beverly) Shelton, Ellaville, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jacqueline Williams, Americus, Georgia, Lamar Shelton, Jr., Atlanta, Georgia, and Chris (Violet) Shelton, Chicago, Illinois; aunt, Arlean Murray, Ellaville, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including a devoted nephew who like a Brother Barry Solomon and devoted friends Deacon Sammie Halls and Joe Jones.

Margaret Bivins Hillmon, age 87, 716 Smith Road, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Friday, June 19, 2020 at her home surrounded by her beloved family.

Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 25, 2020 Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Elder James Lyles, pastor of St. Mount Elijah Primitive Baptist Church, Ideal, Georgia will officiate.

Margaret, better known as "Margaree,” was born October 29, 1932 in Macon County, Georgia to the late LaNora Bivins. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County. She was the wife of the late Eugene Harris; they were blessed with three lovely daughters.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry “Chico” Robinson and two sons-in-law, Scott Johnson, Sr. and Curtis Reese.

She was a member of the historic Zion Temple Primitive Baptist Church, Green Mill Rd., Oglethorpe, Georgia where she served as secretary and mother of the church. After the church closed she moved her membership to Saint Mount Elijiah Primitive Baptist Church of Ideal, Georgia where she continued to serve her Lord and Master and she also served on the church Committee.

On November 15, 1985 Margaret was united in holy matrimony to the late Marvin Hillmon.

After many years of dedicated services as a dietician, the school honored her in 1987 with a plaque for Loyal Dedication to the Macon County High School dietician.

Survivors are: three daughters and one son-in-law, Rashida M. Reese, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Mary (Jerry, Sr.) Robinson, and LeNora Johnson all of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Scott Johnson, Jr., Rashida Harris, and Kimberly (Dominque) Ward; fourteen great grandchildren include, Chloe Steel, Carley Taylor, Easton Harris, Tyrus “J” Robinson, Justin Young, Sherell Griffin, Keith Ward, Zachery B. Ward, Kayla D. Ward, Alexis Ward, Destiny Ward, Destiny Robinson, Najee Gaines and Alexis Gaines; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Delois Duncan and Edith Duncan, both of Eufaula, Alabama ; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Georgia Ann Hillmon, Missionary Gladys Hillmon, Shirley Hillmon, James Hillman, Eddie Hillmon, Jr., Terry Hillmon (Barbara), Celessie Hillmon, Maryann Floyd, Gloria Hillmon, Larry Hillmon (Betty Ann); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; including devoted cousins, the Tookes family of Oglethorpe and Atlanta, Georgia

Teresa was born February 1, 1974 in Schley County, Georgia to Edgar Warren, Sr. and Dianne King Warren.  She was a graduate of Tri-County High School and a graduate of South Georgia Technical College of Americus, Georgia with a certificate in culinary arts.  She was formerly employed with Cooper Lighting, an accountant with the Sumter County Sheriff Department, as a mail clerk at Habitat for Humanity of Americus, Georgia.

At a very young age she joined the band of Christian believers at Quebec Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend John Hollis. Teresa was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Deacon James and Sis, Catherine King, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frank Lester Warren, Sr. and the late Minnie Warren.  She was also preceded in death by her loving uncles, Ben King and Henry J. “Doc” King.

Survivors include her five children, Keith Warren Sr., Atlanta, Georgia, Kierra Warren, Patrick Warren, Dominique Warren and Chasen Warren all of Americus, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Chandler Jones, Morgan Jones, Chansen Sanders, Tucker Warren, Parker Warren All of Americus, Georgia and Keith Warren Jr., Keviaija Williams both of Atlanta, Georgia; three siblings, Faye King, Atlanta, Georgia, Erica Woods and Edgar Warren, Jr, both of Americus, Georgia; aunts and uncles include, David King, Ellaville, Georgia, Gail King and Linda King both Decatur, Georgia, Leslie Foster, Viola King both of Americus, Georgia, Tony King, Jacksonville, Florida, Ronnie King (Vivian) Ellaville, Georgia, Sammie Warren, Ellaville, Georgia, Charles Warren, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Tony Warren, Americus, Georgia, Curtis Warren, Brunswick, Georgia, Minnie Riley Atlanta, Georgia and Yvonne Warren of New Jersey; a host of beloved cousins including Kent King and Matthew King; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

Katie Mae Walker Collier was born in Montezuma, Georgia on August 19, 1935 to the late Bessie Lowe Walker and the late W.D. Walker. She was preceded in death by two children, Al Collier Jr. and Rose Ann Collier; one grandson, Roderick Smith Sr.; one great grandson Dalvin Smith; and siblings Joe McDonald, Mary Ann Pastor, Jeanette Walker, Jim Walker, and J.T. Walker. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian Believers at Piney Grove Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir until her health began to fail. Katie attended the Historic Flint River Schools. She was joined in holy matrimony on December 29, 1956 to the late Al Collier Sr. Katie loved her flowers and cooking. 

She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Betty Jean Smith, Marshallville, Georgia, Ricky Collier, Maxine Collier both of Montezuma, Georgia, Judy Sanders, Montezuma, Georgia, nineteen grandchildren, forty five great grandchildren; eight great great children; two siblings Minnie Snead, Marshallville, Georgia and Johnny Walker (Mattie Pearl), Fort Valley, Georgia; sister-in-law, Diane Wallace (Larry), Oglethorpe, Georgia, brothers-in-law, Elijah Clayton, Montezuma, Georgia and Arthur Clayton, Atlanta, Georgia, and host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including two devoted nieces Gloria Story (Richard), and Bonnie Walker and devoted friends Dean and Diane Prichett.

Hattie Bell Johnson Mann, was born on June 5, 1951 in Webster County, to the late Mr. Robert Lee Johnson Sr. and Ms. Lady B. Sims of Americus, Georgia.  She was educated in the public school system of Sumter County.  She is preceded in death by her daughters Melissa Mann-Harris and Clarisa Mann, her brother Eddie Charles Johnson her nephew Eric Wilson.

She leaves a legacy of love and fond memories to a loving husband Freddie Mann Sr. of forty-eight years, Americus, Georgia; three devoted sons Kenneth Johnson (Marilyn) Lumpkin, Georgia, Freddie Mann Jr. and Larenza Mann, both of Americus, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Rev. Clara Laverne Smith English was born September 23, 1932 in Rupert, Taylor County, Georgia to the late Judson Smith and the late Ethel Reese.  She was educated in the public school system of Macon County, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Johnson.  She was united in holy matrimony to the late Cornelius English.  She was blessed to be the mother of four children, two preceded her in death, Anthony English and Marvis English.

She was a member of the Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served dutifully on the Missionary Board and supported every facet of the church she loved so well.

After many years of dedicated services she retired from Blue Bird Body Company the Wander Lodge Divison, Ft. Valley, Georgia.

On Thursday morning June 11, 2020, the death angel sealed the lips of our beloved Clara Laverne Smith English. “But I will not have you be ignorant brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.  For if we believe that Jesus  died and rose again even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.”  (1st Thessalonians 4:13,14)

She leaves to morn her passing her beloved children, Mr. and Mrs. Milton (Bessie) English, Oglethorpe, Georgia and Mr. and Mrs. Cheryl English (Conrad) Smith, Warner Robins, Georgia; five grandchildren, Mr and Mrs. Kevin (Melinda) English,  Mr. and Mrs. Bianca English (Mark) Myers all of Locus Grove, Georgia, Brian Smith, Buford, Georgia, Brandon Smith, Stockbridge, Georgia and Mr. and Mrs. Brittany (Donnell) Widemon, Covington, Georgia; six great grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Deacon Floyd Deriso, age 74, 110 Guss Street DeSoto, Georgia passed June 10, 2020 at the Select Specialty Hospital, Savannah, Georgia. 

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., June 14, 2020 at the Leslie Civic Center, 173 East Allen Street, Leslie, Georgia.  The remains will lay in state at the center from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.  Please be aware of the CDC regulations.

Deacon Floyd Deriso was born in Lee County, Georgia to the late Arthur Deriso and the late Arlena Worth Deriso.  He acquired his education in the public school system of Lee County.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Lula Mae Deriso Garry, Jessie Mae Deriso Stevens, Willie James Deriso and Frank Deriso.

At an early age he joined the St. John Baptist Church of Lee County where he served on the Deacon Board Ministry, President of the Church Choir for forty years and a great supporter of every facet of the church he loved so well.  He was president of the Everready Spiritual Aires. He enjoyed welding and making his designer barbecue grills.  He was co-founder of Freedom Harvest Senior Citizen Out Reach Ministry.  He enjoyed all sports and was a great supporter of the local community little league teams.

He was united in holy matrimony January 23, 1967 to his one and only love the former Georgia Watts.  To this union they were blessed with six children, one daughter preceded him in death, Shamona Davis, and two grandchildren Nakita Deriso and Anthony Deriso III.  He loved his family unconditionally and that love was reciprocated.  “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

Left with many fantastic memories and unforgettable love include his beloved wife of fifty three years, Dr. Georgia Watts Deriso, DeSoto, Georgia; his children and their spouses, Jacqueline (Calvin) King, LaSondra (Larry) Milledge, Anthony (Eula) Deriso, Farenza Deriso and Kelsey (Denise) Deriso; twenty one grandchildren and ten great grandchildren: his sisters and brothers and their spouses, Vickie Mathis, McArthur Deriso, Arthur (Betty) Deriso, Dorothy (Walter) Fuller, Bertha Deriso Ray and Rena Watts;  godfather Jack Miller;  sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Auther Mae Williams, Reverend Jessie (Louise) Watts, David Watts, Randy Walker, all of DeSoto, Georgia, Evangelist Anthony (LaShunda) Walker, Fayetteville, Georgia Mary Alice (Ward) Wilson, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Pearlie High Deriso, Americus, Georgia and Doshia Mitchell, Columbus, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including two devoted friends, James McCrary and Johnny Davis.

Our beloved Karsyn Eli Pough was born at 9:38 A.M. on April 9, 2020 at Piedmont Hospital in Columbus GA to Marc Anthony Whatley and La’Tora Breshae Pough. 

From the moment that Karsyn took his first breath, it was clear that he was indeed a special soul; therefore, it no wonder God wanted him back so soon. After a short stay of 57days with us, on June 5, 2020 Karsyn took his last breath and began his journey to be with God.

Being such a small, handsome baby, Karsyn stole the heart of every adult in his life. His first talent was smiling and making all those around him do the same. The unique sounds Karsyn made were like pleasant chimes from heaven. “A precious one from us is gone, a voice we love is still, a place is vacant in our hearts that can never more be filled.”

Karsyn was preceded in death by two great grandmothers: Mattie Pew and Tandra Whatley; two great grandfathers: Author Drain and Lee Alton Lyles, one great uncle Ronnie Thomas and a God-brother Aiden Daniel.

Milton Crawford was born December 31, 1956 in Richland, Georgia, Stewart County, Georgia to the parentage of Charlie Lewis Crawford and Annie Pearl Thornton Crawford who preceded him in death.

On Monday afternoon, June 8, 2020, the death angel sealed the lips of our beloved father and brother.

Milton was educated in the public school system of Marion County. He graduated in 1974 and enlisted in the US Army where he served until he was honorably discharged.

Milton was a hard worker.  He worked many years at Redman Homes in Richland, GA. He later became self-employed as a cabinet builder where he built cabinets throughout the Marion County area.

Milton was preceded in death by his two sisters, Vickie Lashun Crawford and Shirley Dean Milner, and 2 brothers:  Donald Crawford and Terry Tyrone Crawford.

He  leaves to cherish his precious memories a beloved daughter, Nikki West-Franklin (Larry) of Buena Vista, Georgia; two granddaughter Eboni and Diamond  one loving brother, Charlie E Crawford, Sr (Linda) of Buena Vista, Georgia and 3 loving sisters, Clara Harvey of Jonesboro, GA, Dianne Crawford of Palmetto, GA and Juanita Lewis (Robert) of Buena Vista, GA; beloved uncles, aunts, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives and beloved friends.
