Hozie Trice, Jr.

Mr. Hozie Trice, Jr., age 85, Lavender Street, Montezuma, Georgia passed Friday, November 28, 2014 at Montezuma Health and Rehabilitation Center, 506 Sumter Street, Montezuma, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, 6425 Jalappa Road, Byromville, Georgia.  The Reverend Alvin Turner, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.
 
Mr. Hozie was born September 9, 1929 in Byrom, Dooly County, Georgia to the late Hozie Trice, Sr. and Leola Davis Trice. Born in a family of four, he was preceded in death by Willie Joe Trice, Sr., Louise Trice Green, and Ozzie Trice Turner.
 
He was educated in the public school system of Dooly County. At a very early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  After many years of dedicated service, he retired from John Deer Tractor Company and Southern Frozen Food as a mechanic.
 
He was united in holy matrimony to the former Mrs. Freddie Mae Lester Trice, who preceded him in death September 17, 1975. He was blessed to be the father of ten children. Two children, Billy Green and Cornelius Baldwin, preceded him in death.
 
Mr. Trice was better known as “Hump”.  He was very dedicated to his family, for he loved them dearly. The LOVE was reciprocated.
 
He leaves a legacy of love and many cherished memories to his beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include eight children, Willie Trice, Cordele, Georgia, Nathan Trice, Lithonia, Georgia, Ella (Michael) Miles, Riverdale, Georgia, Freddie Trice, Americus, Georgia, Tommy Lee Trice, Macon, Georgia, Robert Edward Trice, Decatur, Georgia, Valerie Denise Trice Holloman (Matthew), Americus, Georgia, and Jimmy (Mary Joe) Redding, Vienna, Georgia; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ezell Lester and Roosevelt Lester (Delores), both of Tampa, Florida, Johnnie B. Lester (Betty), Atlanta, Georgia, Eva Lue Green, Annie Mary Lester, Evelyn Miller, and Bettye Waldell all of Montezuma, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Pamela Veronica  Thornton Melvin, age 51, passed on Monday, November 24,2014.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., December 2, 2014 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow at the Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.
 
Pamela was born January 05, 1963 in Montezuma, Macon County Georgia to the late James C Thornton, Sr. and Annie Mae Smith Thornton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James C Thornton, Jr. and John Thornton. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County and was a graduate of the Historic D. F. Douglass High School in Montezuma, Georgia. Pamela was join in Holy matrimony to Calvin Melvin on  March 14, 1986.
 
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband of twenty-eight years, Calvin Melvin, Montezuma, Georgia; three loving children, Renada Felton (Taryl Mann, Sr.), Errol Felton, Jr. and Devontay Thornton, all of Montezuma, Georgia; five grandchildren, Rashon Mann, Jarquez Turner, Devin Mann, Taryl Mann, Jr. and Zachariah Schofield; five siblings, Rickey Thornton, Sr.(Jena), Americus, Georgia, Lorenzo Thornton, Montezuma, Georgia, Cheryl Porter (Kenneth), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Zona Riley  (James), Montezuma, Georgia and Florence Barnes, Macon, Georgia; devoted aunts and uncles, Elizabeth Larry (Willie James), Eloise Nicholson, Ola Mae Sparks, all of Montezuma, Georgia and Willie Tom Flowers, Miami, Florida; great aunt, Louise Lee, Montezuma, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces and nephews, including five whom she reared as her own, Mario, Celicia, Travis, Rickey Jr. and Shanda; a host of other relatives and friends.

Susie Joiner Butler, age 74, 341 Averil Street, Montezuma, Georgia  passed Thursday, November 27th, 2014 at the Perry Hospital, Perry, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 30, 2014 at the Zion Grove Baptist Church, Whitehouse Road, Montezuma, Georgia.  The Reverend Coley Clark, Jr., Pastor, will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Champ Waters Cemetery, 191 Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

Mrs. Susie Joiner Butler was born August 18, 1940 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Eddie Lee Joiner and Winnie Lee Murray Joiner.  Seven siblings preceded her in death: D. Eddie Joiner, A. W. Joiner, Willie Clarence Joiner, Charlie B. Joiner, Johnny Mack Joiner, Eva Burke and Elnora Joiner.

Susie was educated in the public school system of Macon County, where she received her high school education from the historic Flint River Farm High School under the leadership of the late Professor Lightfoot. She was married to the late Memphis Butler and was a member of the Zion Grove Baptist Church.  After many years of dedicated service, she retired from Southern Frozen  Foods, Inc. of Montezuma, Georgia.

Wilde wrote these word in a poem, “What is beautiful is a joy for all season and a possession for all eternity.”   She leaves behind a loving and devoted companion, Sammie Fobbs, Montezuma, Georgia; a loving and devoted son, Marvin Joiner, Montezuma, Georgia; two grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson Matthews and Jessica Evans Barnett, both of Atlanta, Georgia; five great grandchildren, Marquiez Evans, Bernard Johnson, Kelvin, Zyunquitda Matthew, and Devin Barnett; four siblings, Ruthie Mae Howard, Ideal, Georgia, Mae Chambers, Miami, Florida, Ella Maude (Bennie) West, Florida city, Florida and Bertha Joiner, Montezuma, Georgia; sister-in-law, Betty Joe Joiner, Montezuma, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends.

Willie Joe Wiggins, age 58, 215 May Road, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Miona Geriatric And Dementia Center, Ideal, Georgia.
 
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in the Chapel of the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel Inc. 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
 
He was born March 10, 1956 to the late Henton Wiggins and Ida Bell Smith Wiggins. He was educated in the public school system  of Macon County. He was married to Denise Miller Wiggins on April 30, 2009. He was employed as a logger.

Survivors are his wife, Denise Miller Wiggins, Oglethorpe, Georgia; siblings, Mae Lizzie Wiggins, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Rosetta Ridley, Florene Wiggins, and Fannie Bell Wiggins, all of Ideal, Georgia, Betty Jean Wiggins, Mae Lois Wiggins, and Irene Davis (Walter, Jr.), all of Montezuma, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Roy Miller (Elouise), Lee L. Miller, all of Montezuma, Georgia, Morris Miller, Ideal, Georgia, and Marvin Miller, Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Jerry Haynes, age 60, 3603 Gray Birch Dr, Decatur, Georgia passed on November 20, 2014 at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ellaville, Georgia. Reverend William Laster, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be held Monday, December 1, 2014 at 12:00 Noon in Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia. 

Jerry was born on December 15, 1953 to Mattie Gardner Haynes and the late Dallas Haynes. Two brothers, Ernest Haynes and Robert McIntosh, preceded him in death.  He was a 1972 graduate of John Lewis High School of Ellaville, Georgia.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed by Weyerhaeuser of Oglethorpe, Georgia as a Maintenance Worker.


Left to cherish his memory are his four children,  Jerrold Cornell Lester (Tammi), Tampa, Florida, Kalisha Haynes, Amber Haynes, both of Decatur, Georgia, and Senay Larry Mann (Felix), Montezuma, Georgia; his mother Mattie Haynes, Ellaville, Georgia; nine grandchildren; five siblings, Carol Wells, Columbus, Georgia, Mary Storye (Milton), Martha Shelton, both of Ellaville, Georgia, Gloria Wright, Woodstock, Georgia, David McIntosh, Columbus, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Barbara Haynes, Ellaville, Georgia and Marsha McIntosh, Clayton, North Carolina; aunts and uncles, Elizabeth Haynes, Ellaville, Georgia, Sallie Haynes, Atlanta, Georgia, Ethel Haynes, Atlanta, Georgia, Mildred Gordon, Atlanta, Georgia, Mattie Lee, Decatur, Georgia, Mary Williams, Covington, Georgia, Lue Ellen Williams, Harry Haynes (Mattie), Atlanta, Georgia, James Haynes (Cora Lee) Ellaville, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a devoted friend Deon Alexander, Decatur, Georgia.

D. Eddie Joiner, age 78, 111 Antigo Street, Montezuma, Georgia passed Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Montezuma Health and Rehabilitation Center, Montezuma, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Zion Grove Baptist Church, White House Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Reverend Coley Clark, Jr. pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Champ Waters Cemetery, 191 Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

D. Eddie was born August 27, 1936 to the late Eddie Lee Joiner and Winnie Lee Murray Joiner in Macon County, Georgia.   He attended the old historic Flint River Farm High School under the leadership of the late Professor Lightfoot.  He was married to the former Betty Joe Grant on January 5, 1973. D. Eddie was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church, Whitehouse Road, Montezuma, Georgia. 


After  forty-six years of dedicated service, he retired in 2005 from Gold King (Southern Frozen Food, Inc.) as a Dump Operator.  He was preceded in death by six siblings: A W. Joiner, Willie Clarence Joiner, Charlie B. Joiner, Johnny Mack Joiner, Eva Burke and Elnora Joiner.

Survivors are a devoted wife, Betty Joe Joiner, Montezuma, Georgia; five siblings, Ruthie Mae Howard, Ideal, Georgia, Mae Chambers, Miami, Florida, Ella Maude West (Bennie), Florida City, Florida, Susie Butler and Bertha Joiner, both of Montezuma, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Louella Mann (Deacon James), Montezuma, Georgia, Betty Carr, Irvington, New Jersey, Willie Grant (Annie), Cordele, Georgia, and Larry Grant (Edna), Rex, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leola Loftly Sanders, age, 86, 113 Morse Ave, Montezuma, Georgia passed on November 11, 2014 at Montezuma Rehabilitation Center, Montezuma, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church, Highway 26, Montezuma, Georgia. Reverend Allen Waters, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.  

Leola Loftly Sanders was born May 28, 1928 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the parents of the late Leola Killen Loftly and Boisy Loftly.  She was educated in the Macon County public school system; where she attended the historic Flint River Farm School.  She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers at New Hope Baptist Church, where she served as an Usher for many years.

Mrs. Leola was employed by Macon County Board of Education as a Cook at the historic D.F. Douglass High School where she retired after many years of dedicated service.  Mrs. Leola will always be  remembered for her selfless nature, her kind and generous spirit, and her willingness to help others. Baking was her passion. She loved to cook, bake, and sew. Her porch and yard were the safe spaces for waiting for the school bus, for the pool to open, and for parents to return.

On Tuesday evening, November 11, 2014 at Montezuma Rehabilitation Center, Montezuma, Georgia, God called her from labor to reward. She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers: Lottie Mae,  Beatrice, Ben Boisy, C.L., L.B. Ellen, Marie, Reather, Maeola, and Clarence.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Gloria (Louis) Ivory of Marshallville, Georgia, Katherine (Frankie) Isreal of Fairburn, Georgia, Earnestine Chatfield of Montezuma, Georgia, Beverly Fuller of Vienna, Georgia, Harriet Brown of Montezuma ,Georgia, and Willie Sanders of Dublin, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Harris of Fort Myers, Florida; sisters-in-law, Alice Loftly and Effie Loftly, both of Atlanta, Georgia; brother-in-law, Jewel Lee Woolfork of Immokalee, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives and friends, including a very devoted cousin Annie Neal Collier, and devoted friends, Glenda Sparks, Deborah Hobes, Bunice Turner, Alberta Odom.

Annie Bell Milner, age, 86, B-102 Roger Street, Buena Vista, Georgia passed Sunday, November 9, 2014.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Moody Road, Tazewell, Georgia, where Reverend Joe Oglesby is pastor. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.
 
Ms. Annie Bell Milner was born December 20, 1927 in Tazewell, Marion County Georgia to the late Ollie King.  She  acquired her education in the public  school system of Marion County.
 
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health failed.  She moved to Washington, D.C. where as she was employed as a presser with a local dry cleaning business. After many years of dedicated service, she returned back to her native land of Marion County. She was preceded in death by one nephew, Walter Maxwell Jr.
 
She leaves a legacy of love and memories to  her beloved family, including a loving brother, Walter Maxwell (Eddie Mae), Buena Vista, Georgia;  nieces and nephews, Debbie Maxwell Richardson (J.R.),  Ozark, Alabama, Teresa Maxwell, Pembroke Pines, Florida, Ethel Bell (Gary), Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Barry Maxwell (Lynette), Buena Vista, Georgia; a host of great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews; a host of cousin, including Deacon Chester Hardage, a devoted cousin.

Mrs. Louise Kaigler Francis, age 85, 1211 Cooks Mill Road, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Thursday, November 6, 2014 at her home.

The memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 111 Walnut Street, Montezuma, Georgia.

Mrs. Louise Kaigler Francis was born February 6, 1929 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the parents of Blannie Porter and Willie Hill Harris.  She was educated in the public school system of Macon County.  She was self-employed, and after many years of dedicated service, she retired as an upholsterer.

She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. John Davis Kaigler, and, to this union, they were blessed with six children.  Her son, Willie B. Kaigler, preceded her in death. After the death of her husband, she remarried the late Leopolean Francis.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Willie James (Ethel) Kaigler, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Betty Louise (Coleman) Solomon, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Johnnie (Larry) Hinton, Decatur, Georgia, Delois Dunn, Warner Robins, Georgia, Wilma (Melvin) Tookes, Oglethorpe, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Kaigler, Decatur, Georgia; two devoted friends, Ann James, and Armie Dunn; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lena Mae Hubbard Hillmon

Sister Lena Mae Hubbard Hillmon, age 85, 274 Travelers Rest Road, Montezuma, Georgia passed Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Phoebe Sumter Hospital, Americus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 14, 2014 at the New Phillip Primitive Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 224, Montezuma, Georgia.  Elder Walter Austin, pastor and moderator of the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Association, will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.  The remains will lay in repose from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service.

Mrs. Hillmon was born July 28, 1928 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Jim Hubbard and Mary Lee Trice Hubbard.  She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Ananius Hubard, Elder J. H. Hubbard, Johnnie Lee Hubbard, Mamie Hubbard Stinson, Lillie B. Hubbard McKenzie, Timothy Hubbard, and Willie Marie Hubbard.  She was educated in the public school system of Macon County.  At an early age, she joined the New Phillip Primitive Baptist Church, where she had supported every facet of the church for sixty-five years. “Servant of God, Well Done.”

Being a woman of compassionate ways of love and admiration, she captured the love of her one and only John Robert Hillmon.  They were united in holy matrimony and were blessed with four children; one son, Johnnie B. Hillmon, preceded her in death.  Later in life, three grandchildren, Anthony James, Kelvin James, and Steven James, also preceded her in death.

After many years of dedicated services to her husband and family, she retired as a homemaker and vegetable farmer.

She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to her beloved family: three children, Frankie Mae Hillmon, Lillie Hillmon James, and Robert C. Hillmon, all of Montezuma, Georgia; two grandsons and their spouses, Jonathan (Shae) Hillmon, Macon, Georgia and  Mark (TePorschae) James, Montezuma, Georgia;  fourteen grandchildren,  Kelvin Grover, Kelbresha Thomas, Kelsey Freeman, Aniya Perkins, NyTavius Hilllmon, Clarisa Hillmon, Crystal Hillmon, Jakell Hillmon, Terri, Hillmon, Jada McClain, Kari Hillmon, MarKedeyes James, A. J. James, and Madison James; and one great great grandson, Anthony Thomas; eight siblings, Annie Lee (Samuel) Thomas, Linda Johnson, Vera Solomon, all of Montezuma, Georgia, Mary L.
