Demetrius Tomas Lemons, Sr., age 39, passed Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

The wake service will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 31, 2014 Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel Inc, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. 

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Moody Road, Buena Vista, Georgia. Pastor Joe Oglesby will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

Demetrius was born June 1, 1975 to Nora N. Clark Fudge and Thomas Jefferson Lemons in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. He attended the public school system of Marion County and went on to receive his GED Certification. He was employed by the city of Buena Vista with the Sanitation Department, where he was Superintendent over the water and streets department.

Left to cherish his memory are his three loving and devoted children, Amanda LaTesha Thomas, Brittany Nicole Lemons, and Demetrius Tomas Lemons, Jr.; granddaughter, Kimora Naomi Thomas; his companion, Cynthia Davis, Buena Vista; his parents, Nora Ann Clark Fudge (Robert), Buena Vista, Georgia and Thomas Jefferson Lemons, Louvale, Georgia; siblings, Sharon Lemons Williams (Johnny), Buena Vista, Georgia, Antonio “Tony” Brown (Tequila), Lumpkin, Georgia, Myrtice “Peaches” Clay (Rev. Joel), Dickinson, Texas, Alma Terrell Fudge, Robert Fudge, III, Veronica Scott (Thad), and Cornelius Fudge (Debra Ann), all of Columbus, Georgia, and Antonio Fudge, Atlanta, Georgia; godsister, Syona Morton, Buena Vista, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends.

Deacon Timothy Tyrone Ogburn

Deacon Timothy Tyrone Ogburn, age 78, 109 Swift Drive, Montezuma, Georgia passed Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Heart of Georgia Hospice, Perry, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Harrison Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Tom Adam Road, Montezuma, Georgia.   Reverend Alfred Biggs, pastor, will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

Deacon Ogburn was born March 23, 1936 to the late Johnny Ogburn and Mandy McCant Ogburn in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia.  Eleven siblings, Carvin Ogburn, Rosa Ogburn, Martha Ogburn, Clementine Ogburn, Johnny B. Ogburn, Perry Lee Ogburn, James Ogburn, Elizabeth Ogburn, Mary Ogburn, Larry Ogburn, and Annett Anderson, preceded him in death. 

Deacon Ogburn acquired his high school education from the historic Macon County High Training School.

Deacon Ogburn was very talented and gifted.  For fifty years or more, he was a brick mason.  His artwork can be seen all around Macon County and surrounding communities.  He was united in holy matrimony to the former Jannie Mae Rice on March 24, 1972. After the death of his first wife, Deacon Ogburn married the former Julia Cosby in November 7, 2000.   He was blessed to be the father of six children and their spouses, including Conswalla Ogburn, Montezuma, Georgia, Kathy Shuford (Roger), Hanover, Maryland, Tony Rice (Stephanie) and Willie Rice, all of Orlando, Florida, Tammie and Penny both of Atlanta, Georgia.  He loved his family dearly and that love was reciprocated.   He was also blessed with seven grandchildren.   Other survivors are six siblings and their spouses, Carolyn Anderson, Miami, Florida, Otis Ogburn (Lillie), Macon, Georgia, Sandra Ogburn and Sharon Ogburn, both of Montezuma, Georgia, and Charles Ogburn, Miami, Florida, Marilyn Ogburn (Cornell), Linden, New Jersey; aunt, Christine Jones, Ideal, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a devoted nephew Willie James Ogburn.

“I reckon the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” – “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”   (Romans 18, II Timothy 4:7)

Brother Jessie Hardison

Brother Jessie Hardison, age 104, of Buena Vista, Georgia passed Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Magnolia Manor Marion County Nursing Center, Buena Vista, Georgia.  

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Bridges Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. Pastor Zechariah A. Terry, pastor of Evans Chapel C.M.E. Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hillard Chapel C.M.E. Church Cemetery, Brantley Community, Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia.

Brother Hardison was born August 2, 1910 in Chattahoochee County, Georgia to the late Jessie Hardison and Millie Cook Hardison.  Born in a family of nine siblings, he was preceded in death by eight siblings.   He was educated in the public school system of Chattahoochee and Marion Counties.  He came from a pioneering family of hard-working farmers and who believed in rearing their children in a Godly manner.

At a very early age, he gave his hand to God and joined the band of Christians believers at the Hillard Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Brantley Community.  He served in many official positions of the church including chairman of the Steward Board Ministry for a number of untiring years.  He was one of the last stewards and trustees who helped to build the new concrete block building as it stands today.  

After moving to Buena Vista, Georgia at the age of 18 years old, he met and married his wife, Essie Mae Douglas on November 2, 1928, and to this union, they were blessed with sixteen children. Four of his beautiful children preceded him in death, including Mae Francis Williams, Mary L. Hardison, Charlie C. Hardison, and Ozell Hardison.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Essie; his parents, Jessie and Millie; and his eight siblings.

Brother Hardison was a pillar of the community.  After thirty-five years of affiliation and dedication with the Masonic Lodge No. 446 4th District of Columbus, Georgia, he was awarded his Gold Card as a lifetime member and was the recipient of the Legacy Award  “Trail Blazer.”

At the time of his passing, Brother Jessie Hardison was the oldest citizen of Buena Vista, Georgia. He fought a good fight, finished his course, kept the faith, and had a long wonderful journey of 104 years

Left to remember him with love and affections are his twelve children, Jessie Hardison, Jr, Camden, New Jersey, Christine Scott, College Park, Georgia, Essie Hardison, Columbus, Georgia,  Johnny M. Hardison (Rebecca), Pennsauken, New Jersey, Betty J. Hardison, Riverdale, Georgia, Millie R. Robinson, Columbus, Georgia, Willie J. Hardison (Florence), Columbus, Georgia, Martha Ivey (Walter), Atlanta, Georgia, Dorothy Minter (Leonard, who was very devoted and dependable), Buena Vista, Georgia, Delois Hardison, Camden, New Jersey, and Eugene Hardison (Shirley), Fairburn, Georgia; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; his adopted children, Jimmy Milner, Elder Linton Hawkins, and Lois McBride; lifetime friends, Susan Fudge, Mary McBride and Annie Odums; and a host of other relatives and friends, including the Hillard Chapel C.M.E. Church family.

Ella Virginia Hollis, age 66, 5825 Bearing Way , College Park, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Kindred Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1908 Dozier Road, Ellaville, Georgia. Reverend William Laster, pastor, will officiate.

Virginia was born October 9, 1947 in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia to the late Tucker Hollis and Amzie Tookes Hollis. Six siblings, Charles Hollis, James Ferrell Hollis, Kenneth Hollis, Juanita Hollis Tompkins, Clarence Hollis, and Dan Hollis, preceded her in death.

She was an honor graduate of the Class of 1966 at John Lewis High School in Ellaville, Georgia. After 28 years of service, she retired from Bell South Telecommunications in Atlanta, Georgia.   She enjoyed photography, traveling, and spending time with family.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories a devoted daughter, Zerona Ellen Hollis; siblings Mary Ellen (Charlie) Curry of Atlanta, Georgia and Lemar Hollis of Jonesboro, Georgia; sister-in-law Laura Hollis of Racine, Wisconsin; aunts, Jennie Hollis Harper of Columbus, Georgia and Annie Maude Hollis of Box Springs, Georgia; her nieces and nephews, including devoted nieces, Ethel Hollis Campbell of Ellaville, Georgia and Bobbie Campbell Blue of Fort Carson, Colorado; a host of other relatives and friends.

Hellen Davis Roberts

Mrs. Hellen Davis Roberts, age 64, 216 Ross Street, Montezuma, Georgia passed Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Coliseum Hospital, Macon, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant/Travelers Rest C.M.E. Church, 315 Norris Street, Montezuma, Georgia. The Reverend Sidney Kendrick, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Andersonville National Cemetery Rostrum, Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.

Mrs. Roberts was born July 6, 1950 to the late Hartwell Spivey and Eula Mae Neal Davis. She was preceded in death by three siblings, T’ Russell Spivey, Clarence Davis, and Betty Spivey.

She was educated in the public school system of Macon and Dooly Counties. She graduated in 1968 from the historic D.F. Douglas High. She later joined Mt. Pleasant/Travelers Rest Christian Methodist Church, where she served faithfully on the Stewardess Board Ministry, Choir member, Missionary Auxiliary Board, and Ministry in song and words of inspiration to the Nursing Home patients. During her lifetime with her husband she traveled abroad the world and bored her first son in the Philippines.

She was united in Holy matrimony on May 20, 1977. She leaves to cherish her loving memories after 37 years of love and devotion her husband, Willie “Rob” Roberts, Montezuma, Georgia; three children, Tawanda Davis Johnson (Fred), Perry, Georgia, Kyle Roberts (his friend, Verna Tuff) Montezuma, Georgia, and Kendra Roberts, Montezuma, Georgia; four grandchildren Sametria Rogers, Samuel Rogers, and Jeonee Rogers, Zereouna Wiggins;  three great-grands  Zha’Kurrius Johnson, Kha’liyah Rogers, and Brielle Frasier;  siblings, Eva Brown, Bowie, Maryland, Carrie Davis, Newark, New Jersey, Willie Davis (Caretha), Atlanta, Georgia,  J.B. Monroe Pride

Monroe Pride, age 59, a native of Andersonville, Georgia passed on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Hospital, Americus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Winder Road, Andersonville, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Freeman Hill Cemetery. Reverend Norris Harris, pastor, will officiate.

Monroe was born April 22, 1955 in Andersonville, Sumter County Georgia to the late James Monroe and Juanita Hannah Pride.  He was a 1974 graduate of the historic Union High School of Leslie, Georgia. He was employed with Macon County Board of Education as a custodian. Later, he became employed with Rays Trucking Company as a Flagman.  Later, as his health began to decline, he retired in 1995. He accepted Jesus Christ during his teenage years and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter Priscilla Streeter (Travis, Sr.), stationed in Germany; four grandchildren, Korie Streeter, Travis Streeter Jr., Ni-Kiera, Chance Streeter; five siblings, Aldyne English (Deacon Alfred), Andersonville, Georgia, Ella Hargett (Ronald), Brooklyn, New York, James Pride (Ann), Americus, Georgia, Crawford Pride (Earlene), and Bessie English (Milton), Oglethorpe, Georgia; aunts, Zola Asberry and Maxine Thomas, both of Hartford, Connecticut;  a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including a devoted family member Tracy Ellis, Americus, Georgia.

Mr. George Brown, age 81, 201 Jordan St., Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Heart of Georgia Hospice, Perry, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.  Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.  The Reverend Coley Clark, Jr., pastor of Zion Grove Baptist Church, Montezuma, Georgia will officiate.

Mr. George Brown was born May 2, 1933 to the late Lucious Brown and Annie Carson Brown in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia.  He was educated in the public school system of Macon County, Georgia.  One son, Kenneth Brown preceded him in death.  He also was preceded in death by two brothers, James Brown and William “Doc” Brown, Sr.  After many dedicated years of service, he retired as a farmer.

He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Joyce Lowe (Kelvin), Oglethorpe, Georgia and Helen Thomas (Joe), Oglethorpe, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Lillie Thornton Brown, Montezuma, Georgia; grandchildren, Kenbretta Brown, Katajia Brown, both of Montezuma, Georgia, Cortez Lowe, Ebony Lowe, both of Kathleen, Georgia, Vanessa Thomas, Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Shevella Rump (Alger), Warner Robins, Georgia; eight loving great grandchildren; six siblings, Susie Lumpkin, Montezuma, Georgia, Minnie Lee Washington, Marshallville, Georgia, Vernestine Brown, Miami, Florida, Wedie Bell Stewart, Montezuma, Georgia, Annie Pearl Leary, Atlanta, Georgia and Johnny “J.B.” Brown, Oglethorpe, Georgia; a host of nieces, including a special devoted niece, Patricia Stewart, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Calvin Perry, age 68, 224 East Burkhalter Street, Buena Vista, Georgia passed Friday, October 3, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Josh Gibson Center, Rogers Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. Reverend Dr. Tabatha Walton will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Buena Vista City Cemetery, Oliver Street, Buena Vista, Georgia.
 
Mr. Perry was born January 1, 1946 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to Della Perry Battle. He was educated in the public school system of Marion County. He was united in holy matrimony to Betty Williams, and, to this union, they were blessed with one daughter and one granddaughter.
 
Survivors are a beloved mother, Della Perry Battle, Brooklyn, New York; one daughter, Michelle Shamell (Darryl), Upland, California; and one granddaughter, Londyn Miller, Pullman, Washington; and a host of loving, caring, and committed family and friends.
