The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Harrison Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Tom Adam Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Reverend Alfred Biggs, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.
Deacon Ogburn was born March 23, 1936 to the late Johnny Ogburn and Mandy McCant Ogburn in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia. Eleven siblings, Carvin Ogburn, Rosa Ogburn, Martha Ogburn, Clementine Ogburn, Johnny B. Ogburn, Perry Lee Ogburn, James Ogburn, Elizabeth Ogburn, Mary Ogburn, Larry Ogburn, and Annett Anderson, preceded him in death.
Deacon Ogburn acquired his high school education from the historic Macon County High Training School.
Deacon Ogburn was very talented and gifted. For fifty years or more, he was a brick mason. His artwork can be seen all around Macon County and surrounding communities. He was united in holy matrimony to the former Jannie Mae Rice on March 24, 1972. After the death of his first wife, Deacon Ogburn married the former Julia Cosby in November 7, 2000. He was blessed to be the father of six children and their spouses, including Conswalla Ogburn, Montezuma, Georgia, Kathy Shuford (Roger), Hanover, Maryland, Tony Rice (Stephanie) and Willie Rice, all of Orlando, Florida, Tammie and Penny both of Atlanta, Georgia. He loved his family dearly and that love was reciprocated. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren. Other survivors are six siblings and their spouses, Carolyn Anderson, Miami, Florida, Otis Ogburn (Lillie), Macon, Georgia, Sandra Ogburn and Sharon Ogburn, both of Montezuma, Georgia, and Charles Ogburn, Miami, Florida, Marilyn Ogburn (Cornell), Linden, New Jersey; aunt, Christine Jones, Ideal, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a devoted nephew Willie James Ogburn.
