Charlie Hollis

Mr. Charlie Hollis, age 84, 334-A Georgia Highway 280 West, Americus, Georgia passed Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Vista Care Center, Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral service will bee conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Lebanon Baptist Church, Hudson Street, Plains, Georgia, with Reverend Hosie Waters, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

Mr. Charlie Hollis was born December 9, 1926 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Owens Hollis and Mary L. Bridges Hollis. Five siblings, Vera Robinson, Arrie Dunning, Willie Hollis, Lemon Hollis, and Lois Willis, preceded him in death. He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. At an early age, he joined the band of Christian Believers at Lebanon Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a Deacon for many years. After twenty dedicated years of service, he retired in 2000 from Jones Automatic Sprinkler.

On June 23, 1967, he was united in holy matrimony to the former Lucille Sheffield.

Survivors are his loving wife of 44 years, Lucille Sheffield Hollis, Americus, Georgia; six children, Owens Hollis (Lottie), Columbus, Georgia, Walter Hollis (Ramona), Desoto, Georgia, Eugene Hollis and Jacqueline Slappey, both of Plains, Georgia, Carlton Hollis (Debra), Albany, Georgia and Blake Hollis (Deborah), Atlanta, Georgia; thirteen loving grandchildren; several loving great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; three siblings, Thelma Hollis, Plains, Georgia, Ira Hollis, Bridgeport, Connecticut and Lillie Boggus (John), Hartford, Connecticut; one aunt, Rosa N. Williams, Detroit, Michigan; a goddaughter, Alice Carter (Henry), Americus, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, including a devoted cousin, Minnie Bridges, Plains, Georgia; a host of friends, including a devoted friend and family, Robert Holley (Francis), Americus, Georgia and The Young Family, Americus, Georgia.

Mrs. Sarah Fulks Brooks, age 80, 559 Asbury Road, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Houston Medical Center, Warner Robins, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Felton Chapel Church, Georgia Highway 128, Oglethorpe, Georgia. The Reverend Keith Gibbons, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

Sarah was born March 21, 1931 in Macon County, Georgia to the late Edgar Fulks and Jessie David Fulks. She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Tommy Lee Fulks, Eloise Fulks, J. D. Fulks, Hattie Fulks, J. L. Fulks, Hennie Mae Griffin and W. D. Fulks. She was the widow of the late Willie C. Brooks. To this union, they were blessed with three children. She was educated in the public school system Macon County. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the New Pond Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as the treasurer, at the old historical church located in the New York Community. As the community began to grow small, the church was closed and she moved her membership to Felton Chapel Church. She was the caretaker for her mother, Jossie, whom she nurtured and cared for until her demise.

Survivors are her three loving and devoted children and their spouses: Willie Brooks, Jr. (Annie Maude), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Easter Brooks Mahone (Carey), Oglethorpe, Georgia and Essie Brooks Duncan (Ronald), Montezuma, Georgia; four loving grandchildren, Luquanda Jackson (Marcel), Montezuma, Georgia, Michael Mahone, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Ronald Duncan, Jr., Hampton, Virginia and Kyla Duncan, Montezuma, Georgia; four loving great grandchildren, Chasity Mahone, Jamiah Duncan, Jaron Duncan and Madison Jackson; four siblings, C. H. Fulks, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Carrie Bell White, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Charles Fulks, Brunswick, Georgia and Farris Rice, New York; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Thomas Brooks, Maxie Brooks, Paulene Russell and Laura Fulks, all of Miami, Florida; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, including two devoted nephews, E. T. Hosley and Charlie Carson; other relatives and friends, including three devoted friends, Hazel Williams, Henry Bacon and Gussie Harris.

Clara Mae Tookes

Ms. Clara Mae Tookes, age 96, passed Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Montezuma Healthcare Center, Montezuma, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street. Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment followed in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia. The Reverend Isaac Tookes will officiate.

Ms. Tookes was born February 28, 1915 in Macon County, Georgia to the late Charles Tookes and Willie Olgie Mallard Tookes. After fifty dedicated years of service, she retired as a private duty nurse. She returned back to her native home in 2005 to live with her daughter, Corine Griffin.

Ms. Tookes accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Shady Grove Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Corinth Baptist Church of Garden Valley. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, she joined the Colt Ministries whereas she served faithfully until her health began to decline.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Willie Mae Hankerson and Hannah Tookes. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Clara Regina Griffin and her only brother, Charlie Lester Tookes.

She leaves a legacy of love and memories to her beloved family which include: two daughters, Corine Griffin (L. J.), Ideal, Georgia and Laura Chisholm (Wendell), Quitman, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Valerie Hankerson, Boynton Beach, Florida, Gilbert Harris (Mary), Ideal, Georgia, Joyce Griffin Jones (Samuel), East Point, Georgia, Cynthia Griffin Patterson (Lorenzo), Jonesboro, Georgia, Michael Griffin, Ideal, Georgia, Bobby Ray Griffin, Atlanta, Georgia, Pershelia Faye Griffin Davis (Elzie), Americus, Georgia and Jocelyn Carter (Chauncey), Jackson, Mississippi; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews including four devoted, Edna Carson, Charlie Tookes, Jr. (Glenda) and Reverend Isaac Tookes; a host of other relatives and friends.

Ernest Lee Sanders, age 62, 2815 Georgia Highway 90 West, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Sunday, November 13, 2011.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday morning, November 18, 2011 at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 201 Chatham Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment followed at 12:30 P.M. at Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.

Ernest Lee Sanders was born October 2, 1949 to Norvis Malcolm Sanders and the late Roosevelt Sanders, Sr. He was a 1968 graduate of D. F. Douglass High School, Montezuma, Georgia. Ernest was a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Army representing his country in the Vietnam War. Ernest was employed with The Varsity in Athens, Georgia and most recently at The Huddle House in Montezuma, Georgia.

His wife, Barbara Taylor Sanders, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Malcolm and Roosevelt Sanders, Jr. Ernest was preceded in death by a very special grandmother, Mary Malcolm. His niece, Kimberly Michelle Kendrick also preceded him in death.

He leaves behind a devoted mother, Norvis Sanders, Oglethorpe, Georgia; three children, Lenorris Miller (Sonja), Montezuma, Georgia, Coretta Roddey (Brian), Atlanta, Georgia and Ernest Sanders, Jr. (Tameka), Atlanta, Georgia; ten loving grandchildren; one stepson, Reverend Edward McKellar (Shandra), Blakely, Georgia; three sisters, Shirley A. Kendrick, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Marie Sanders, Douglasville, Georgia and Gracie M. Sanders, Riverdale, Georgia; two brothers, Wesley Malcolm, Jonesboro, Georgia and Earl J. Sanders, Riverdale, Georgia; a loving mother-in-law, Susie Taylor, Oglethorpe, Georgia; four sisters-in-law, Bettye Bivens Sanders, Lithonia, Georgia, Carolyn Williams, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Glenda Rumph (George), Fort Valley, Georgia and Loretta Johnson, Jessup, Georgia; five brothers-in-law, Jerome Taylor, Phoenix, Arizona, Marvin Taylor (Carolyn), Fort Valley, Georgia, Charlie Taylor, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Arthur Taylor (Mary), Detroit, Michigan and Edward Taylor (Marilyn), Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including two devoted friends, Earl Barron and David "Shorty" Nelson.

Cary formerly from Americus, Georgia was born March 12, 1969 to Mamie Ann Frederick and the late Aldean Brooks. He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. He was a truck driver by trade. He was formerly employed with Sumter Soil of Americus, Georgia, Toyland Trucking Company of Atlanta, Georgia and Charles Brown Trucking Company, Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Polly Mae Harris Frederick and Ollie Mae Brooks.

Ms. Mary Lee Hannor of Fayetteville, North Carolina passed Wednesday, November 2, 2011.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Magnolia Baptist Church, 115 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Champ Waters Cemetery, Montezuma, Georgia.

Mary Lee, a Montezuma, Georgia native, was born September 16, 1947 to the late Deacon S. T. Hannor and late Annie Lee Harris Hannor. She was a graduate of D. F. Douglass High School. She was formerly employed with the Macon County Board of Education and was a nurse assistant with the Montezuma Nursing Home and Miona Geriatrics and Dementia Center.

Survivors are five children Kathy Yates, Atlanta, Georgia, Rodney Hannor Sr., Omaha, Nebraska, Valerie Hannor, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Violetta Hannor, Oglethorpe, Georgia and Johnathan Hannor, Jacksonville, Florida; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; step mother, Mrs. Mattie Hannor, Montezuma, Georgia; three siblings, Jerome Hannor (Fannie), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Angela Price (Robert) and Willie James Hannor all of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
