Angela Hicks, age 56, passed on July 27, 2021 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 31, 2021 in the Felton Chapel Cemetery, Ga Hwy 128, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.

Angela was born on July 5, 1965 in Oglethorpe, Georgia to Agnes Hicks and the late Robert Lee Edwards. She was preceded in death by one brother Walter Jefferson Hicks Sr. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County  and completed school at the historic D.F. Douglas High School.  She enjoyed crafts, boat building, and listening the soft rock music.

She leaves cherished memories to her mother Agnes Hicks, Oglethorpe, Georgia; three siblings, Rickey Hicks (Un Suk), Augusta, Georgia, Melvin Hicks (Kumi), Japan, Curtis Hicks (Jacqueline), Warner Robins, Georgia;  nieces and nephews  Isley Towns (Kimberly),  Walter Hicks Jr. (Tieicha Beal), Elizabeth McDonald (Willie),  Justin Hicks, Curtishia Hicks, Jacksonville, Florida, Curtis Hicks Jr., Keundra Tomlin (Phillipe), all of Warner Robins, Georgia, Jennifer Hicks, Cambridge, Maryland, Miru Hicks, Japan; aunts, Pearline Wiggins (Samuel), Orlando, Florida, Nudine Smith (Alvin); a host of loving family, friends, and a special cousin Dorothy Reynolds.

Helen was born November 21, 1960 in Oglethorpe, Georgia to the late Iris Cosby Snipes and the late Eddie C. Snipes. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Terry Ann Snipes and Gladys C. Snipes. She acquired her education in the Macon County Public School System. received her diploma from Tier Free Academy in July 2020.  She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from Allen Canning Inc. after 30 plus years of services. Helen enjoyed preparing delicious meals, fellowshipping with her family and close friends, being on social media, and traveling.

Helen leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted son Julius Snipes, Oglethorpe, Georgia; Marcel McCants her nephew whom she reared as her own after the passing of her sister Gladys; four siblings, Bonnette McDonald (Deacon Charlie), Montezuma, Georgia, Gloria Montford of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Laverne Snipes, Montezuma, Georgia and Edward Snipes (Patricia), Warner Robins, Georgia; step-mother, Edna Snipes, Atlanta, Georgia; uncle Eddie C. Thornton, Montezuma, Georgia; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including devoted friends Verna Hayes, Tina Jackson, Jennifer McCants, Leola Griffin, Gloria Jean Quinn, Jeanette Wilson, Ronald Rucker, Mildred Oliver, Jeffery Jolly, Dennis Daniel, Wayne Mangram and the New Hope Baptist Church Family.

Walter Melvin  Norman was born July 27,  1958 in Ellaville, Georgia to the late Mashack Norman and the late Aretha Terry Norman. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Norman, and sisters, Lettie Jean and Mary Lucy. He was educated in the public school system of Schley County. Walter was a member of Union Hill A.M.E. Church in Ellaville, Georgia. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. On June 10, 1977 two hearts become one when Walter married the love of his life, Mary Brown.  

He leaves cherished memories to his wife Mary Norman, Warner Robins, Georgia; a daughter Tenesha Norman, Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren Deshaun, Joel, and Omari; brother Retired Sgt Major James Norman (Vernell), Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, sisters Annie Pearl Archie (Charles), Junction City, Kansas, Claudia Regeida Norman and Beverly Shelton (Lamar) all of Ellaville, Georgia; sisters and brothers in law Shirley Shavers ( Ralph), Linda Alexander (Earnest) and Lee Brown (Charlemange) all of Columbus, Georgia, Tommie Brown, Willie Brown and Kenneth Brown all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Catherine Stanley (Wayne) of Leighton, Alabama, Bernice Chaney (Ron) of Gray, Georgia, Steve Brown (Cynthia) of Brunswick, Georgia, and Stacey Brown (Janice) of LaGrange, Georgia, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends.

James Edward Greene

James Edward Greene, affectionately called “Bear Greene,” passed on June 30, 2021 at the age of 79.

James Edward Greene was born December 5, 1941 to the late Obelia Jordan Story and the late Cullen Greene. He was the beloved step son of the late Walter Ben Story Sr. Born in a family of eight siblings he was preceded in death by two brothers Jackie Story and Billie Story, and one son Joseph Hannor. He was educated through the public school system of Macon County. Following high school “Bear” as he was called by family and friends enlisted in the United States  Army.  He worked at the Montezuma Police Department as a  police officer and Georgia Pacific of Vienna, Georgia. One of his greatest passions was his game of golf.  He will be forever remembered in the hearts of his loved ones.

He leaves cherished memories to his children: Alvis “James” Troutman (Barbara Walters), Montezuma, GA, Veronica Davis (Karl), Woodbridge, VA, Jeffrey Greene, Gilbert, AZ, James Edward Greene Jr. and Raimon Greene, both of Akron, OH; daughter-in-law, Wendy Hannor; Grandchildren: Markiel Witchard, Marcus Greene, Joshua Greene, Jasmine Jackson, Ji’Selynn, Jaylen and Jolan Hannor; 4 great grandchildren; siblings: Sonny Snead, Akron, OH, Walter Ben Story, Jr., Richard Story (Gloria), Marshell Canady (Jeffrey), all of Montezuma, GA, a sister–in-law, Burnell Story, Montezuma, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives loved ones and friends.

Shelmon Cotton Smith, affectionately called “Buddy," passed on July 3, 2021 at the age of 67.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Champ Waters Cemetery, 191 Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

Shelmon was born March 3, 1952 to Elois Cotton Terry and the late Floyd Smith in Macon County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Thelma Lois Cotton; sisters, Mary E. Hudson, Shirley H. Thomas; grandmother, Gertrude Cotton; and a niece, Sesame Cotton Harpe. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County. Buddy, as he was called by family and friends, was employed as a construction worker while living in Oklahoma. He later moved to Coffeyville, Kansas where he worked and later retired as a lab technician with Sherwin-Williams. Shelmon enjoyed life as it came,  he loved playing cards, fishing, and dancing. He will always be remembered by family and friends as the life of the party.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter JoAnne Mason, Warner Robins, Georgia; one grandson Jayden Mason, Warner Robins, Georgia;  his mother Elois C. Terry, Oglethorpe, Georgia; seven siblings, Belinda Terry (Donnell), Union City, Georgia, Betty T. Hayes (Levi), Coffeyville, Kansas, Sherry Jones, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Mary Terry, East Point, Georgia, Gwendolyn Smith (Kirkland Sr.), Perry, Georgia and Christopher Terry, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Velma H. Thomas (Eddie); nieces and nephews Tony, Donzell, Sparkle, Joshua, Antwann, LaBresha, Willie Jr., Kyla, KJ, Kirondria and a devoted niece Pamela; aunts and uncles Maxine Gentry, Flint, Michigan,  Mack Cotton, Lithonia, Georgia, Willie Cotton (Essie), Marshallville, Georgia,  Annie Cotton, Atlanta, Georgia, Jimmie Cotton, Norcross, Georgia, Doris Thompson,  Atlanta, Georgia;  a host of other aunts, uncles, great nieces, nephews and beloved friends including Scott and Tracy Bromley, Tony Sweeney, and William Strickland all of Coffeyville, Kansas  and devoted friend of the family Rita Colbert, Coffeyville, Kansas.

Rosa Mae Jackson

Mrs. Rosa Mae Jackson, age 79, passed on June 30, 2021 at her residence.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 705 Ebenezer Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.  Burial will follow in the St. Marks Baptist Church Cemetery, 96 Hobbs & Briggs Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.

Mrs. Rosa Mae Jackson was born April 20, 1942 in Americus, Georgia to the late Hazel Cook and the late Rev. Henry Ross. She was reared   by her aunt and uncle the late Lula Jackson and the late Pinkey Roy Jackson. She is preceded in death by her sister, Bertha Cook, and brother, Sandy Cook.  Rosa was educated in the public school of Marion County and was a 1962 graduate.

At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia, where she served over the years as Church Secretary, Usher Board, and as a  choir member.  Rosa worked for the Department of Family and Children Services in Marion County as a Case Manager, a transportation driver through companies in Americus and Columbus, Cafeteria Manager/ Supervisor. She also cared for children in her home Daycare.

Rosa was joined in holy matrimony to Eugene Jackson on February 28, 1965.  She enjoyed cooking, fishing, shopping, and spending time with her family.

She leaves a lifetime of cherished memories to her beloved husband of 56 years to Eugene Jackson, Buena Vista, Georgia; two children, Barbara Lynn Jackson, Buena Vista, Georgia, Ricky Eugene Jackson (Sheryl), Americus, Georgia; goddaughters, Harmoni and Jordan; her beloved fur child, Blackie Jackson; siblings,  Leonard Ross (Pat), Melbourne, Florida, Cynthia Cook, New York, New York, Michael Jackson, Oklahoma, Dorothy Ross, New York; brothers/sisters-in-law, John Jackson, David Jackson, both of Melbourne, Florida, Horace Jackson (Pearlie Mae), James Jackson, Bertha Jackson, and Ella Mae Harris , all of Miami, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including Verine Jackson, Louise Minter, both of Buena Vista, Georgia; Janie Cross, Americus, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at William Grove Baptist Church, 71 Gill Street Hwy 19, Ellaville, Ga. Burial will be held at Staley Memorial Gardens, corner of Mayo and Southerfield Road, Americus, Ga.

Tommie Louise Pride McCuller was born July 15, 1953 in Andersonville, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Calvin Pride, Jr. and the late Willie Mae Davis Pride. Born in a family of seven siblings, two brothers preceded her in death, Charlie Pride and Kirkland Pride.  Also one sister-in-law preceded her in death, Alice Pride and brother in Law Rudolph Coley. She was a  1971 graduate of Union High School, Leslie, Georgia.

Tommie was united in Holy matrimony to the late Joseph McCuller and they were blessed to share their love. After 26  years at Weyerhaeuser  Oglethorpe plant she retired as a lab technician. She acquired her Christian training at the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Andersonville under the leadership of the late Reverend Allen.  Later she moved her membership to William Grove Baptist Church of Ellaville, Georgia under the leadership of Reverend Michael Edge.  She served on every facet of the church whereas she served faithfully on the Kitchen Ministry, the Senior Choir, Secretary of the Women Ministry and Pastor’s Aid Ministry.  She was member of the Order of Eastern Star Habakkuk  No. 70 of  Americus, Georgia

She leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories which include two sons and a daughter-in-law; Lakista Devard McCuller (Valerie) and Keffery McCuller all of Americus, Georgia; seven grandchildren Lakista McCuller II, Jakobe McCuller, Myla McCuller, Kelsey Cruz, Jaylan Bowens, Kearsten McCuller and Saige Maddox; two great grandchildren, Lakista McCuller III and Nadia McCuller; four siblings, Velma Pride Coley, Andersonville , Georgia, Frank Pride, Columbus, Georgia, Michael Pride, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and Ernest Pride (Sonja), Albany, Georgia; Other relatives and friends include a devoted companion, Ronald Coley, a devoted cousin, Veronica Davis Hunter, Orange, New Jersey; sister-in-law Kerry Pride, and devoted friends Venie Crawford and Beverly McDonald, Annie Ruth Battle, Carolyn Knighton.

Lougene Solomon was born February 8, 1943 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Lucious Solomon, Sr. and the late Ella Bell Haugabook Solomon.  He was preceded in death by six siblings, James Solomon, Curtis Solomon, J.W. Solomon, Willie Solomon, Ella Mae Solomon and Katherine Bryant.

2nd Corinthian 5:6-7  So we are always of good courage.  We know that while we are at home in the body  we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.  Yes we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Survivors include his beloved siblings, Lucious Solomon Jr. and Coleman Solomon (Betty) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Lottie Mae Solomon, Perry, Georgia, Jimmy Solomon, Sarah Barnes, Annie Margaret Solomon all of Homestead, Florida and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; other relatives and friends.
