Mrs. Pearlie Duncan Johnson, age 85, 204 Langston Dr., Buena Vista, Georgia passed Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Magnolia Manor of Marion County, Buena Vista, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Poplar Spring Baptist Church, GA Highway 137, Buena Vista, Georgia. The Reverend Bobby Lewis, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Buena Vista, Georgia.

Mrs. Pearlie Duncan Johnson was born August 26, 1926 in Marion County, Georgia to the late Cullen Duncan and Alice Clark. She was educated in the public school system of Marion County, Georgia. She also was preceded in death by two siblings, Clevis Mae Duncan McBride and Joseph Duncan. At an early age, she joined the Poplar Spring Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Poplar Spring Baptist Church Choir until her health began to decline. Mrs. Pearlie had a gift of love for people and she patiently sat with them faithfully. After ten plus years of dedicated service, she retired from Marion County Board of Education as a Custodian at Marion County Middle School.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Floyd Johnson and to this union, two children were born. One daughter, Alice Thornton preceded her in death.

Survivors are one daughter, Mary Lois Williams, Buena Vista, Georgia; three loving and devoted grandchildren, Mark Thornton (Johnnie), Buena Vista, Georgia, Eddie Gene Thornton, Ellaville, Georgia and Teresa Stinson (Thores), Columbus, Georgia; five great grandchildren; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Ann Oglesby, age 68, 14421 Pierce Street, Miami, Florida passed Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Jackson South Memorial Hospital, Dade County, Miami, Florida.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Union Baptist Church, Norris Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Whiteline Street, Montezuma, Georgia.

Dorothy Ann Oglesby was born May 13, 1943 to the late Iona Colzie Oglesby and Council Oglesby in Macon County, Montezuma, Georgia. She received her education at D. F. Douglass High School. She joined Union Baptist Church at a young age and remained a member until she moved to Miami, Florida in the early 90’s to care for her ailing mother.

Ms. Oglesby, a devoted mother and grandmother loved preparing meals for her family.

She leave to cherish her memory, three daughters, LaTrice Ross (Antonio), Monica Langhorne, and Iona Hudson (Darrel); one brother, Rick Joiner (Annette); 7 grandchildren, Brandi Boyd, Gregory Ross, Jonathan Ross, Erykah Echols, Brian Rogers, Samantha Hudson and Michael Hill; nieces: Lutrina Shelton and Nicole Joiner; nephews, Ronald Cotton, Eric Cotton and Jonathan Joiner, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Marilyn Reese Haslam, age 55, 1354 Powersville Road, Byron, Georgia passed Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 2, 2012 at First Salem Baptist Church, Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia, where the Rev. Paul A. McFarland is pastor. The Rev. Hosie Waters, pastor of Magnolia Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Champ Waters Cemetery, Montezuma, Georgia.

Mrs. Marilyn Reese Haslam was born November 8, 1956 to the late Anderson Reese and Geneva Johnson Reese in Macon County, Georgia. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County where she attended D. F. Douglass High School. At an early age, she joined Magnolia Baptist Church of Montezuma, Georgia. Marilyn was a faithful and dedicated person who was devoted to God and loved to sing. She loaned her voice to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Choir of Dooling, Georgia. She was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Fort Valley, Georgia under the leadership of Rev. Bryant Aaron. After many dedicated years of service, she retired as a Homemaker.

She leaves to cherish her memory three loving and devoted children, Markeith J. Curgil, Latavia Greer and Justin Greer, all of Fort Valley, Georgia; five loving grandchildren, Diamontae Greer, Laquasha Battle, Markeith L. Kenneth Williamson, age 52, of Americus, Georgia passed Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Wilson Hospice House, Albany, Georgia.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. at the Andersonville National Cemetery Rostrum. 496 Cemetery Drive, Andersonville, Georgia. Reverend Bennie Clark will officiate.

Kenneth was born July 12, 1959 in Hartford, Connecticut to Willie Pearl Price and Walter Perkins. He was a 1976 graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged March 21, 1977. He was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors are two children, Eerrhaydee Johnson and Lamont McGowen both of Springfield, Massachusetts; mother Willie Pearl Price, Toledo, Ohio; father, Walter Perkins, South Carolina; three siblings, Sandra Price, Toledo, Ohio, Lester Price (Kim), Humble, Texas and Kelvin Price (Angie), Atlanta, Georgia; aunts and uncles, Minnie Williams (Moses), Atlanta, Georgia, Paul Williamson (Annie Ruth), and Paulene Smith (Thomas) all of Americus, Georgia, Johnnie B. Mr. Albert “Bubba” Jackson, Jr., age 66, passed Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 P.M., Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 408 River Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Whiteline Street, Montezuma, Georgia.

Mr. Albert Jackson, Jr., was born January 10, 1945 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Albert Jackson, Sr. and Catherine Patterson Jackson Porter. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County whereas he acquired his high school education in the old historic D. F. Douglass High School. At an early age he joined the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was married to the late Betty Mae Smith Jackson and to this union he was blessed with five children. After the death of his first wife, he married the former Betty Jean Shoats May 8, 1983 and to this union they were blessed with one daughter.

For many years, Mr. Albert was employed with the city of Montezuma as a sanitation worker. He was affectionately known as ‘Bubba” to many of his beloved relatives and friends.

Survivors are a beloved wife of twenty-nine years, Betty Jean Jackson, Montezuma, Georgia; five loving and devoted children, Angela Michelle Jackson, Americus, Georgia, Albert Jackson III (Carla D. Baldwin), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Anthony Wayne Jackson, Antarus Jackson, and Felecia Ann Jackson (Christopher), Montezuma, Georgia; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren; five siblings, Landis Ogburn, Montezuma, Georgia, Bernice Barrett (Arthur) Bronx, New York, Frederick Jackson (Alice Pearl), Emma Jackson and Donald Jackson all of Montezuma, Georgia; two brothers-in-law, George Shoats, Jr., Batavia, New York and Harold Shoats, Oglethorpe, Georgia; two aunts and uncles, Fannie Patterson, Montezuma, Georgia and Deacon J. Mrs. Susie Mae Williamson Taylor, age 91, 624 Railroad Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Monday, February 13, 2012 at her home.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, Corner of Johnson and Russell Streets, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow in the David Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Georgia Highway 26 West, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Mrs. Taylor was born October 23, 1920 in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia to the late Sam Williamson and Rachael Rogers Williamson. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County. She was a member of the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she served as secretary of the church for a number of years and supported all facets of the church ministries, until her health began to decline. She served as a layman on the Oglethorpe Circuit.

After many years of dedicated services, she retired as an instructor from Macon County Training Center. She also worked for a number of years with Southern Frozen Food as a grader.

She was married to the late A. C. Taylor and was blessed to be the mother of thirteen children. Five children, Sammie Lee Taylor, Barbara Taylor Sanders, George Taylor, and twin babies, preceded her in death, along with four grandchildren, Charles Ford, Shawn Taylor, Inez Ford and Patricia Johnson. She was also preceded in death by twelve siblings, Charles Williamson, Mary Williamson Webb, Paulene Williamson, Tom Williamson, Sallie Mae Hicks, Essie English, Valerie Harp, Alberta Williamson, Guy Williamson, Minnie Jewel Williamson, Rosa Tookes, Jannie B. Schofield and Porter Williamson.

She leaves a legacy of golden memories to her beloved family: nine children, Loretta Johnson, Jesup, Georgia, Charlie Taylor, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Arthur Taylor (Mary) Warren, Michigan, Edward Taylor (Rochelle), Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Gwendolyn Rumph (George), Ft. Valley, Georgia, Earnest Taylor, Phoenix, Arizona, Carolyn Williams (Don), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Randy Taylor (Carolyn), Ft. Valley, Georgia, and Olivia Taylor, Oglethorpe, Georgia; one sister, Catherine Melvin, Andersonville, Georgia; twenty-seven grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren; two goddaughters, Jasmine Dean and Vanecia Johnson; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 17, 2012 at First Salem Baptist Church, Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow at 12:00 P.M at Andersonville National Cemetery Rostrum, 494 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia. Pastor Gabriel Hicks, Oasis World Outreach, Americus, Georgia will officiate.

Kirk Alton Cochran, Sr. was born May 5, 1962 to Frobell Cochran, Sr. and Becky Mae Odom Cochran in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia. Kirk Cochran, Sr., received his Christian training in the local churches. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County. He was a 1980 graduate of Macon County High School. In September 1980, Kirk Cochran, Sr. enlisted into the U. S. Navy and was honorably discharged in September 1988.

Survivors include his former wife, Rose Marie Gibson-Cochran; five children, Rhashonda Cochran, Amber Cochran, Kirrik Cochran, KeAndre' Cochran, all of Flint, Michigan and Kirk Cochran Jr. of Columbus, Mississippi; grandchild, Tuuri Cochran, Flint, Michigan; a beloved friend with-whom he viewed as his son, Tywann Mann, of Oglethorpe, Georgia; his parents, Frobell and Becky Cochran; nine sisters, Brenda (Elisha) McKenzie, Glenda (Lenoris) Rogers, Patricia Cochran, Sharon Cochran, Valerie Cochran, Priscilla Cochran, Felecia (Gabriel) Hicks, Becquetta (Willie) Fredrick, and Remedios (Andre) Smith; four brothers, Frobell (Corine) Cochran, Ferdinand Cochran, Daron (Charlene) Cochran, and James Cochran, Sr.; four sisters-in-law, Lane Alexander, Tamara (Willie) Alexander, Leslie (George) Colston, and Beverly (Lucious) Swanigan; four brothers-in-law, Caron Gibson, Cornelious (Marion) Gibson, Troy Gibson, and Charles (Shantel) Gibson; aunts, Bernice (Kenneth) Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mary Harris of Warner Robins, Georgia; along with a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

Minerva Worthy Greene

Mrs. Minerva Elizabeth Worthy Greene, age 83, 437 North Plum Street, Montezuma, Georgia passed Monday, February 6, 2012.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Magnolia Baptist Church, 415 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment followed in the Second Salem Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Minerva Elizabeth Worthy Greene was born December 12, 1928 to the late Mrs. Mary Lizzy Miller Worthy and Jessie Worthy, Sr. in Macon County, Georgia. She was married to the late Deacon Jesse Greene, Sr. for forty-eight years, and to that union, they were blessed with two sons: Jesse Greene, Jr., West Palm Beach, Florida and Walter Greene (Earlene), Fairfield, Alabama. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, one of whom she reared as her son, Walter Felton, Atlanta, Georgia, and nine great grandchildren. In 1949, Sister Greene became employed with Southern Frozen, Inc. and after thirty-one years of dedicated services, she retired as a grader and line technician.

At the tender age of nine, she joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church, under the care and leadership of the late Reverend Daniel Thomas of Americus, Georgia. Sister Greene was a faithful servant at the Zion Hill Baptist Church and worked untiringly on every facet of the Church ministries. In 1948 she was united in holy matrimony to her one and only love, Deacon Jesse Greene, Sr. and in 1950 she moved her membership to Second Salem Baptist of Montezuma, Georgia under the leadership of the late Reverend Champ Waters. She served in several auxiliaries that include president of the choir, church announcer and president of the missionary ministry. After the death of her husband, she returned to Zion Hill in March 2001 under the leadership of Reverend James Curtis Iverson. In 2006, she served as the Acting Mother of Zion Hill Baptist Church. Later she returned and renewed her membership with Second Salem Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Leon Pace and she was appointed Mother of Second Salem Baptist Church where she remained until her demise.

Sister Minerva Elizabeth Worthy Greene enjoyed life with eight brothers and three sisters, three of which preceded her in death, Willie James Worthy, Jessie Worthy, Jr., and Elizah Worthy.

Other Survivors include five loving brothers, and their spouses, Bradie Worthy (Iris), Milford, Delaware, Robert Worthy (Edgarmae) West Palm Beach, Florida, Charles Worthy Bridgeville, Delaware, Eddie Worthy (Robin), Greenwood, Delaware, and Emmitt Worthy, Sr. (Marilyn), Montezuma, Georgia; three sisters, Margaret Worthy-Stalk, San Francisco, California, Rose Worthy-Johnson, San Monica, California and Mary Helen Worthy-Jackson, Montezuma, Georgia; sister-in-law, Joan Worthy, Belglade, Florida; uncle, Robert Miller; a host of nieces and nephews including Vanessa Johnson, San Monica, California, Melissa Worthy, Georgetown, Delaware; and Debbie Jackson-Walker (Roy), Oglethorpe, Georgia; godchildren, Delphane Solomon, Ellaville, Georgia, Rev. Dr. Adrienne Beach-Duncan, Lillie Pearl Jackson, and Reverend Alfred Wynn all of Montezuma, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends including three devoted, Liza B. William Henry Stewart, Sr., age 74, 300 4th Street, Buena Vista, Georgia passed Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Columbus Hospice, Columbus, Georgia.

Williams Henry Stewart was born January 1, 1938 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the late Clinton Stewart, Sr. and Mary Taylor Stewart. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clinton Stewart, Jr. He was educated in the public school system of Marion County. He was a former citizen of Hartford, Connecticut where he retired from the Connecticut Department of Transportation as a machine operator. And he was married to the late Mary Franklin Stewart.

He leaves to cherish his memories four children, Lorenza Stewart, Janice Stewart, William Stewart, Jr., and Kenneth Stewart all of Hartford, Connecticut; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; six siblings, Grace Hicks (Hampton), West Palm Beach, Florida, Mozelle Stone, Hartford, Connecticut, Pearlene Oates (Willie), Buena Vista, Georgia, Mattie Haynes (Harry), Atlanta, Georgia, Robert Stewart, Hartford, Connecticut and Joann Given, Chicago, Illinois; aunts and uncles including one devoted, Estella Jones, Buena Vista, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Clarence Toomer

Mr. Clarence Toomer, age 95, a native of Houston County, Georgia and a citizen of Kansas City, Kansas passed Saturday, February 4, 2012.

The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial wil follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery.

Mr. Clarence Toomer was born May 30, 1916 in Perry, Houston County, Georgia to the late Wynman Toomer and Lucinda Baldwin Toomer Law. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Willie B. Toomer, Eula Mae Calton, James Toomer and Lucy Toomer Felder Harvey. He was educated in the public school system of Houston County and Peach County. He later moved to Florida, where he met and married the late Louise Mobley in 1942 (who preceded him in death in 1978). In 1945 he made his home in Newark, New Jersey.

Being reared in a Christian home, he learned early in life his path of duty. He was employed by the Fisher Cohen Company as a distribution clerk and a truck driver and retired after many years of dedicated services.

In 1988 he met and married the late Olivia M. Tucker, who also preceded him in death in 2008.

In 2005 Clarence moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he lived with his favorite nephew, whom he considered as his son and caregiver, Reverend Dr. Grady L. Felder.

His Christian walk with God led him to associate with the various Primitive Baptist Churches in Newark, New Jersey.

His favorite pastimes include talking to friends, reading the newspaper, singing, and listening to gospel music. He enjoyed listening to such lyrics as, “I stood on the banks of Jordan just to see the ships sailing over, I stood on the banks just to see ships roll by…. my mother will be waiting, my father is too, my sisters and my brothers are waiting too.”

He leaves a legacy of love and golden memories to his beloved family which includes his favorite nephews, Reverend Dr. Grady (Sonja) Felder, Kansas City, Kansas, Deacon Hollis (Carol) Toomer, Upper Marlboro, Maryland; his favorite nieces, Wyngia Felder Brown, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Iris Mitchell, Atlanta, Georgia and a host of loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
