Juanita Green Thomas

Juanita Green Thomas was born in Sumter Country, Georgia to the late Isaac Green and Gussie Dodson and she was married to the late Willie Lee Thomas, Sr.  She is preceded in death by her son Willie Lee Thomas, Jr. and siblings Susie Mae Green, Elizabeth Rycraw, Florence Porter, Wynelle Arnett, Daisy Lowe, and Claudia Dodson, Jr. She was a 1958 graduate of Americus High. She acquired her LPN at the South Georgia Technical School. After twenty-five years of dedicated service, she retired from the Sumter Regional Hospital of Americus, Georgia. She was a member of Triedstone Baptist Church whereas she was a secretary of the church and served on the Usher’s Ministry and hospitality committee. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Eastview Cemetery, Americus, Georgia.  The Reverend Iverson will officiate.
 
She leaves to cherishes her memories to her daughter Sharron Thomas, Americus, Georgia; grandson Phillip Thomas, Americus, Georgia; devoted nieces/nephews Willie Drains, Thaddeus Drains, Cheryl Rycraw, and Eleanor Brewer; devoted friend Sally Neal; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Deacon Robert Lee Holley, age 71, of 919 Davenport Street, Americus, Georgia passed Friday, June 21, 2024.
   

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Americus, Georgia.  The Reverend Willie Green will officiate.

Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. Robert was born April 25, 1953, in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to the late John Henry Holley and Elizabeth Battle Holley. He was preceded in death by three siblings Willie Eugene Holley, James Holley, and Love William Woods; mother-in-law Ruther Lean Pittman, and sister-in-law Sharon Cooper.  He was a 1973 graduate of Americus High School. He acquired his degree in Air Conditioning from South Georgia Technical College, Americus, Georgia. After many dedicated years he retired as a tractor trailer driver in 2001 from Perry Brother’s.  He was a member of Corinth Holy Bible Church, whereas he served on the Deacon Board Ministry.

He leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories which include his loving and devoted wife of forty loving years, Frances Cooper Holley, Americus, Georgia; two devoted children Christopher Holley and Shenna Holley; sister, Mary Barner Green (Calvin), Americus, Georgia; sisters/brothers-in-law, Catherine Roger (Russell), Tampa, Florida, Arezolle Burton (Lora), Coral Springs, Florida, Lucretia Hinton, Kissimmee, Florida, Robert Burton (Gueea), Tampa, Florida, Ernest Cooper, Americus, Georgia, Annie Burton (Charles), Americus, Georgia, Rosa Kendrick, Warner Robins, Georgia, and Don Pittman (Deloise), Ellaville, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews,  other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Magnolia Baptist Church, 415 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at Champ Waters Cemetery, 191 Twin Churches Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

Mattie was born on September 4, 1953, to the late Charlie Kelly Sr. and the late Gwendolyn Stevens Kelly. She was educated in the public school system and was 1972 graduate of South Miami Dade High School. She was married in 1992 to Jessie James Majors. She retired from the United States Postmaster after 20 plus years as a mail carrier.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her husband, Jessie James Majors, Buena Vista, Georgia; step children, Sherry J. Middleton (Quincy), Jonesboro, Georgia, Karin Yolanda Majors Jackson, Grayson, Georgia; four step grandchildren; siblings, Jimmie Kelly (Deborah), Gloria Kelly (Dredie), Melody Crawford, Denise Kelly, Charlie Kelly Jr. (Sandra); mother-in-law, Mattie Mae Majors; sister-in-law, Barbara Brown (Henry); brother-in-law, Jeffery Majors (Laverne); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Clarence Rice, fondly known as “Chuckie/Chuck”, was born on August 11, 1951, to the late Roy and Mary Lizzie Visher Rice in Marshallville, Georgia. He was educated in the Macon County School System at D.F. Douglass High School. In 1971 he enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country with honor and distinction, and after years of service he was Honorably Discharged. He later worked and retired with 20 plus years from the Blue Bird Body Company in Fort Valley, Georgia. 

Chuck was the bright light who lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be forever remembered for his generous heart and always helping those in need. He enjoyed playing pool, the lottery, and solitaire. He was also fond of watching wrestling and the TV show “In the Heat of the Night”.

The concluding chapter in Chuck’s Book of Life was penned on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Leroy Rice and Claude Rice.

In 1987, two hearts became one when Chuck married the love of his life Shirley H. Rice. To this union, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter who was the joy of his life—LaJaquan “Key” Rice Wheeler (George) of Phenix City, Alabama. He was also the father to Larry Barner Jr. (Iris) of Macon, Georgia; Levar Rice of Warner Robins, Georgia; Jamaal Rice (Latoya) of Oglethorpe, Georgia; Deon Barner of Marshallville, Georgia; and Tavesha Preston of Ideal, Georgia. Grandchildren: Jordyn Nichole Wheeler, Larry Barner III (Carmen), Derrick Barner, Isaiah Barner, Jamaal Rice II, Eric Rice, Jamaiya Rice, Madison Rice, Jholei Rice, Kha’Madj Mitchell, Kha’Moria Mitchell, Carliyah Ford, Chase Ford, Chasity Ford, Elijah Barner, Kourtnie Barner, Dorian Barner and Deontre’ Barnes.  Great grandchildren Zoe and Zaharia Barner. God children: Tracy Rice, Alisha Solomon and Jerdarrius Nedd. Five brothers and their spouses: Samuel Rice (Lois), Julius Rice (Nettie), John Henry Rice (Carolyn) of Marshallville, Georgia. Charlie Rice of Warner Robins, Georgia and Bennie Rice of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A devoted Sister-in-Law—Sandra Battle. Loving and devoted friends: Elizabeth Solomon, Julia Solomon, Vernon McDougald, Anthony Hooks, Larry Coats, Antonio Rice, and his Blue Bird Family. A loving niece—Katrina Cooper, a loving nephew, James Stinson. A host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Our little Angel Ty’Jier D’Aire Holley too precious for this earth returned to the arms of the Lord on June 9, 2024. He now rests beside his great grandfather Ernest Brown Sr. 

He leaves behind his parents, Shantavia Lockhart and Tarrance Holley. Siblings, Jer’Norris Lockhart, Ar’Mani Coleman, and August Felton; grandparents, Demetrious Lockhart, Stanley Pitts, Lakatria Stewart, Charles Harpe; great grandparents, Shirley Leggett, Rev. Norris Harris (Pamela), Martha Ann Sapp, and  Gloria Glaze; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Lucille Frederick Grover, age 93, passed on June 10, 2024.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Church Street, Andersonville, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Andersonville National Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.

Lucille Frederick Grover was born April 6, 1931, in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Mary Lou Kegler Frederick and the late Thomas Jefferson Frederick. Lucille was known by family and friends as “Big Ma”. She was preceded in death by siblings Beatrice Frederick, Evelyn Mathis, Eula Mae Allen, Henry Frederick, Emanuel Frederick, Thomas Frederick, Louis Frederick, Jacquline Howard, Hattie Bell Fitzhugh, and Leroy Frederick and one daughter Carolyn Lynette Grover. Her prayer warriors and best friends also preceded her in death Bertha Terry and Kate Clemons. She was educated in the public system of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter County High School. She was employed as a Line Technician at Southern Frozen Food in Montezuma, Georgia and worked faithfully until she retired. Lucille was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Andersonville, Georgia where she served as a Missionary member, Usher, Food Committee Member and Mother of the Church.

On February 24,1951, two hearts became one when Lucille married the love of her life the late Thomas Grover Jr. and to this union they were blessed to enjoy a life full of love and laughter for 71 years.

She leaves to cherish her memories to two wonderful daughters, Cynthia Elaine Haslam and Lisa Machelle Minter both of Warner Robins, Georgia; step daughter Mary Helen Clark, Miami, Florida; god daughter Deundra Frederick, Warner Robins, Georgia; two grandchildren Kelvin Stevon Grover (Whitney), Locust Grove, Georgia, Sidney Latoi Haslam, Warner Robins, Georgia; step grandchildren Sabrina Fuller (Dexter), Rhonda Seabrook (Johnny) and Rashard Clark (Darling), all of Miami, Florida; one great grandson Kelvin Stevon Grover Jr.; siblings Mary L. Rogers, Ellaville, Georgia and Mammie Ann Frederick, Americus, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Including her prayer warriors and dear friends Pastor Willie C. Kleckley and 1st Lady, Deacon Charlie and Bonnette McDonald, Annie Maude Brooks, Mary McCants, Betty Fulks, and neighborhood loving and caring friends.
