​Mrs. Thelma Jean Oliver Williams, age 55, 343 Stewart Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Phoebe Sumter Hospital, Americus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, March 31, 2019 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Corner of Russell and Johnson Streets, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Thelma was born April 17, 1963 in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia to the late Walter Oliver, Jr. and Joyce Tookes Oliver.  She acquired her high school education at the historic D. F. Douglass High School.  She grew up attending the Saint Paul A.M.E. Church along with her siblings, aunts, and uncles.  She was preceded in death by two of her siblings, Deborah Elaine Walker and Walter Cornelius Oliver, III.

Thelma loved her family and her community, where she was a personal health care provider for Sarah Trask for over 25 years of dedicated services.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Dock Williams and to this union they were blessed with five children who loved and cared for her dearly, Sakema Clark (Aldean), Perry, Georgia, Melissa Oliver, Montezuma, Georgia, Lamar William (Kennisha), Warner Robins, Georgia, Fabin Williams and Tomeka Williams both of Oglethorpe, Georgia; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; four siblings, Laverne Walker (Robert), Oglethorpe, Georgia, George Steven Oliver, Miami, Florida, Vincent Oliver (Lydia) Montezuma, Georgia and Sebastian Oliver, Miami, Florida; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cheryl Haynes Sampson, age 44, 2970 Lighthouse Way, Conyers, Georgia passed Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, Conyers, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Union Hill AME Church, Will Spivey Street, Ellaville, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

Cheryl Haynes Sampson was born February 18, 1975 to Barbara Rogers Haynes and Ernest Gregory Haynes in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia. She attended elementary and middle school in Schley County and went to high school at Tri-County High School in Marion County. Cheryl was a 1993 graduate of Tri-County High School. She was a faithful member of Union Hill A.M.E. Church in Ellaville, Georgia. Cheryl was previously employed by the Middle Flint E911 dispatch center in Ellaville, Georgia and Sumter Phoebe Hospital in Americus, Georgia.

Cheryl was the proud mother of five children, including 2 beautiful daughters and 3 handsome sons. She was preceded in death by her father, the late Ernest Gregory Haynes.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2019, the angel of death swiftly moved and released our beloved Cheryl from her pain and called her home to rest.

Cheryl leaves to cherish her memories: her stunning daughters, Jazmin Briana Caldwell, Conyers, Georgia; Danique Wright, Albany, Georgia; three handsome sons, Christopher Jamison Marquez Caldwell, Ellaville, Georgia, Markell Ke’Shon Sampson, Buena Vista, Georgia, Jamal Ke’von Sampson, Buena Vista, Georgia; A loving, tenderhearted, and sarcastic nephew, Kabren Erness Hawkins, Conyers, Georgia; A beautiful, loving mother, Barbara Jean Rogers Haynes, Ellaville, Georgia; two loving, dedicated, and loyal sisters, Alethea Briana Haynes, Ellaville, Georgia and Ernestina Shante Haynes, Conyers, Georgia; aunts/uncles, Turner (Sandra) Rogers, Stella McCarter, Steve Rogers, Michael Rogers, Delois Rogers, Elaine (Tracy) Fudge, Mary Rogers, Lewis (Tania) Rogers, Willie Rogers, Vivian (Emmett) Lawson, Joann Murray, Janice (Donald) Cottle, Carol McIntosh, David McIntosh, Mary (Milton) Storey, Martha Shelton, and Gloria Wright. Gabriel Domibro Laster, age 47, 832 McMath Mill Road, Americus, Georgia passed Sunday Morning, March 24, 2019 at his home.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday Morning, March 30, 2019 at the William Grove Baptist Church, 71 Gill Street, Ellaville, Georgia.  Reverend Michael Edge, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Staley Memorial Cemetery, corner of Mayo Street and  Southerfield Road, Americus, Georgia.
 
Gabriel was born June 18, 1971 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to Willie James “Skeeter” Laster the late Annie Lue Ragans Laster. He was a 1989 graduate of Americus High School and a 1995 graduate of Ft. Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.  On the tenth of June, 1995 he acquired his B.S. Degree from Georgia Southwestern State University in the field of science, specializing in horticulture, and later gained employment with Jimmy Carter National Historic Site as a Park Ranger in Plains, Georgia for fifteen years.
 
Gabriel was united in holy matrimony to his one and only love on the eighteenth of April 2009, the former Chinquita Green, and to this union they were blessed with one son, Dezmond Ke’Shawn Laster. He and his family were dedicated members of William Grove Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Choir and Male Chorus.

​Lelia Marie Burney, age 75, passed on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Hospital , Albany, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Lebanon Baptist Church, 403 Botsford Road, Plains, Georgia. Rev. Hosie Waters, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at the New Hope A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Smithville, Georgia.

Ms. Lelia Marie Burney, the daughter of the late Mr. Robert Burney, Sr., the late Mrs. Emma Tyson Burney, the late Mr. Rodolph Edwards, Sr. and Mrs. Martha Edwards, was born on July 2, 1943 in Smithville, Georgia. She attended the public schools of Lee County in Leesburg, Georgia and graduated from Lee County Training School in the class of 1961. She furthered her education by attending Albany State College in Albany, Georgia. After completing two years at Albany State College, she moved to Miami, Florida where she finished her post-secondary education.

After returning to Smithville in 1970, Marie accepted positions at Lee County Manufacturing Company in Leesburg, Georgia as a Line Supervisor from 1970 – 1994 and at Woodgrain Millworks in Americus, Georgia as a Supervisor from 1995 – 2009, when she retired.

Marie knew that as she traveled life’s journey she would face numerous obstacles, trials, and tribulations; therefore, she confessed Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined the Green Grove Baptist Church in Smithville, Georgia and was baptized by the late Reverend Daniel Thomas. After joining the church, she was extremely dutiful in her service. She served on the Ushers’ Ministry, Mission Ministry, and as a Vacation Bible School Staff member.

On Friday, March 22, 2019, she received her wings as her soul left to be with her savior in her heavenly home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Mr. Robert Burney, Jr., Mr. Charlie Burney, Mr. J. C. Burney, and Mr. Herschel Edwards; sisters, Ms. Vinice Burney and Ms. Cora Burney.

She leaves a legacy of love to her children, Mr. Allen Smoak, Jr., Gainesville, Georgia; Mr. Torrence Burney, Smithville, Georgia; Mrs. Tamika Burney Carter (Corey), Newport News, Virginia; stepmother, Mrs. Martha Edwards, Smithville, Georgia; brothers, Mr. Daniel Smith, Rochester, New York; Mr. Willie Frank Bell, Los Angeles, California; Mr. Walker Fred Dean, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Mr. James Tilles (Mae Frances), Decatur, Georgia; Mr. Ricky J. Mrs.  Josephine Colbert Brown, age 69 passed on March 22, 2019 at the Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Friendship Baptist Church, 411 Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, 1625 Cool Spring Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.

Mrs. Josephine C. Brown was born May 7, 1949 to the late Paul Smith, Sr. and the late Comilla Thomas Smith.  She was born in a family of ten siblings in which two brothers, Griffin Smith and Grady Smith, and one sister, Mattie Jorden-Hicks preceded her in death.

 
She was educated in the Marion County School System. She loved God and singing his praises. In 1973, Jo along with her late sister, Mattie Jorden-Hicks, the late Thelma Williams, and the late Willie Mae Bell organized the original Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church Choir.
 
In 1976 Mrs. Josephine Brown moved to Jacksonville, Florida, found employment in Quality Control with Anheuser-Busch, and retired with over twenty years of service. While in Florida she found a church home at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Darrell Gilyard. 
 
She prayed that God would allow her to move back home. After spending 22 years in Jacksonville, Florida, Jo returned home to Buena Vista, Georgia with an entrepreneur’s quest. Her passions were fashion, collecting novelty what-nots, decoration, and design.  On January 1, 1999 on Broad Street she opened a store and named it “Rare Find of Buena Vista”.  As her walk with God matured, she understood her role and the impact of print.   She regrouped and refined her products to include Christian Literature and renamed it “Ashly’s Christian Bookstore”.  Upon returning home she united with Oasis Ministry in Americus, Georgia under the leadership of Pastor Gabriel Hicks. She served in many capacities including the Praise and Worship Ministry. After worshipping a number of years there, the ministry dissipated and she united with the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia on November 1, 2015.
 
“Jo” was a giver and hard worker. She gave her time, money, and counsel whenever it was needed.  She wasn’t ashamed to own her heavenly father before men. She would tell you over and over and over and over; “It’s not about me, It’s All About Jesus”.
 
Those who will miss her dearly include a husband of 17 years, Willie Brown, Buena Vista, Georgia; her three sons, Kenneth Colbert, of Atlanta, Georgia, Bryant Colbert of Jacksonville, Florida,  and Dewayne Colbert, of Buena Vista, Georgia; her three grandchildren, Ashly French (Brandon) of Killeen, Texas, Kiera Colbert and Christopher Sims,  both of Atlanta, Georgia; his six children, Charles Mathis (Shaniah) of Jacksonville, Florida, William H. Brown (Latosha) and Alashia Brown (Byron) both of Buena Vista, Georgia,  Laronda Mabry (Carl), of Thomaston, Georgia, and Latoya Mathis (Issiah) of Columbus, Georgia and Jenise Burton of Atlanta, Georgia; her siblings include: Flourine Muff, Aries Lee Harris, Gloria Hall, Annie Bolden, Earnestine Kelly (Bobby) all of Buena Vista, Georgia, and Rev. Paul Smith Jr. (Annie Pearl), Phoenix City, Alabama; brothers and sisters-in-law include, Walter Hicks, Sr., Kenneth Brown, and  Tommie Brown all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Shirley Shavers (Ralph), Linda Alexander (Earnest), Lee Brown (Charlamange) all of Columbus, Georgia, Mary Norman (Melvin) of  Hapeville, Georgia, Bernice Chaney (Ron), of Gray, Georgia, Steve Brown (Cynthia) of Starkville, Mississippi, and Stacey Brown (Janice) of LaGrange, Georgia, a host of nieces, nephews, and a diva name Taylor, her great-grand-dog.

Ms. Brenda Lester, age 60, passed on March 20, 2019 at Candler County Hospital in Metter, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Union Hill A.M.E. Church, 392 Spivey Street, Ellaville, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

Brenda Lester was born on November 28, 1958 in Americus, Georgia to the late Amy L. Lester and the late William Roger Cottle. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Lester. At an early age she confessed Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Melvin Jones.  She was educated through the public school system of Schley County where she attended the historic John Lewis Elementary School and Tri-County High School. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and in her later years she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing cards and casino games on her iPad.

She leaves to cherish her memories to three siblings, Taffie Maynard (Billy), Atlanta, Georgia, Ronnie Lester, Jonesboro, Georgia, and Kay Lynn Lester, Fayetteville, Georgia; four nephews, Jerrold Lester (Tammi), Tampa, Florida, Carlos Maynard (Avril), Decatur, Georgia, Cedric Maynard  (Nidra), Atlanta, Georgia , and Theo “Teddy” Grice, III, Fayetteville, Georgia; five grand nieces, Zyriah Maynard, Atlanta, Georgia, Jeressa Lester, Tampa, Florida, Valencia Pope, Tampa, Florida, Serenity Maynard, Atlanta, Georgia, and Sa’Niyah Maynard, Atlanta, Georgia; grand nephews, Cedric Joe Maynard, Justin Dionne Maynard, both of Atlanta, Georgia; two step grand nieces; one aunt, Queen Esther Lester, Chillicothe, Ohio; a cousin reared up with her Jerome D. Yvonne was born March 3, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois the late Fannie Paul Coffee and the late  Excell LaGrone.  She was reared by her mother and stepfather, the late Rev. Dewey D. Coffee. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County graduating from school in Ideal in 1969. She was a member of Travelers Home Baptist Church in the Grangerville Community.  Yvonne loved to sew and enjoyed all types of arts and crafts and spending time with her family.  She was also a caregiver. Throughout the years, she was employed as a line technician at Southern Frozen Food and a machine operator at Mead Paper Company. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Terry Aldridge Sr. and to this union they were blessed with four sons. She was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Jewel LaGrone, and a niece, Linda Gail Fulks.
 
She leaves her love and memories in the hearts of her children, Terry Aldridge, Jr. (Patrice), Steven Aldridge, Alexander Aldridge (Cynthia), and Felton Aldridge; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Flora Mae Bogin; a brother Johnny LaGrone Sr.; nieces and nephews, Nikia Smith, Valencia LaGrone, Johnny LaGrone, Jr. Marshan LaGrone, Amber LaGrone, Marcelle and Asia, Bernard Bogin, Craig Bogan and Sharon Bogin; and a host of other relatives and friends including devoted friends Ruby Polson, Shirley Byas, Serbrina Leggett, Fannie Bailey, and her loving neighbors. ​

Mr. Morris Lee Reeves, age 79, of 393 Thompson Street, Ellaville, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 8, 2019.
 
Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Road, Ellaville, Georgia on Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 940 Conners Mill Road, Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia.  Burial will be held at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Zion Road, Ellaville, Georgia.

Mr. Reeves was born March 25, 1939 to the late West Jackson Reeves and Lillian  Kelsey Tucker in Schley County, Georgia.  He was educated in the public school system of Schley County.

He joined the Cedar Creek Baptist Church at an early age. He was married to the former Geraldine Hartage and to this union they was blessed with eight children. Three children, Tracy Lee, Morris, Jr., and Baby Boy Reeves, preceded him in death, along with his grandson, Shaquille, and ten brothers/sisters, Annie Julia Brown, Cora Mae Terry, Mary Elizabeth Brooks, Drucilla Reeves Brown, Hattie Mae Proctor, Sammie Lee Reeves, Theodis Reeves, Mark Reeves, Buddy Reeves, Wesley Tucker, and Willie Tucker, Jr.  Mr. Reeves was a retired logger.

Survivors are a beloved wife of 59 years, Geraldine Reeves, Ellaville, Georgia; five children, Connie Hill (Ron), Atlanta, Georgia, Charlene Pennymon (Kenneth) Americus, Georgia, Matthew Reeves (Meribeth) Cave Creek, Arizona, Tony Reeves (Mae) Ellaville, Georgia, and Nadia Jackson (Clinton) Ellaville, Georgia; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marteen Robinson, Columbia, Mississippi, Celestine Hartage, Jersey City, New Jersey and Hattie Tucker, Columbus, Georgia, a devoted aide Ms. Kiki Thornton and a host of nieces, nephews,  other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church, Montezuma, Georgia.  Interment will follow in Champ Waters Cemetery, Montezuma, Georgia.
 
Lonnie was born on August 29, 1982 to Judy Harvey Woolfork and late Lonnie Woolfork, Sr. in West Palm Beach, Florida.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hubbert Harvey, Willie Lou Harvey, Alonzo Woolfork and Inez Mann Woolfork.  He was educated in the public school system of Macon County. He was a member of First Salem Baptist Church.  He was employed with Macon State Prison for nine years as a Correctional Officer II. 
 
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving mother, Judy H. Jerry “ Chico” Robinson Jr., age 43, passed Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at his residence.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 8, 2019 at Magnolia Baptist Church, 415 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
 
Jerry “Chico” Robinson Jr. was born September 19, 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia at Southwest Community Hospital to the parents of Jerry Robinson, Sr. and Mary Robinson.
 
Chico attended Oak Knoll Elementary and Tri City High School. He enjoyed playing football and basketball. After graduating from Tri City High School, he attended Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, Georgia.
 
He attended St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Howard Creecy, Jr. A few years later, he joined the drama department and even performed in the choir at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church. He rededicated himself under the leadership of Pastor Eric Vincent Thomas. Jerry also attended New Hope Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Georgia.

He was employed with Tyson before realizing his passion for hair cutting, then he started his own business in barbering. In loving his trade he earned a good living for his family. Jerry remained in that trade until the Lord called him home. He was married to Tiquita Joiner Robinson.
 
He is survived by his devoted parents, Jerry and Mary Robinson, Sr.; daughter, Destiny Robinson; son, Tyrus Robinson; sister, Rashida (Douglas) Harris;  his  beloved companion,  Frankie Bowers and her children, Jazzmin, Crystal; stepchildren, Mahogany and DJ; granddaughters, Aubrey, Justice and Malaysia; grandmother, Margaret Hillman; nieces, Chloe Steele, Carley Taylor; nephew, Easton Harris; and a host of aunts and uncles. Precious memories also will be forever cherished by his loving family and friends.
