Deacon Freddie B. Harris, age 60, 1321 Lafayette Street, Americus, Georgia passed Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 420 East Jefferson Street, Americus, Georgia, where Rev. H.C. Wilson is pastor. Interment will follow in the Staley Cemetery, Corner of Souther Field & Mayo Street, Americus, Georgia.
 
Freddie was born February 20, 1955 to the late Sam Harris and the late Mildred Melvin Harris in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia. Two brothers, Robert Latimore and Samuel L. Harris, and one niece, Yolanda Collier Pinkston, preceded him in death. He was a graduate of John Lewis High School.
 
He was employed with the former Metalux, Cooper Lighting Company, which is now known as Eaton, for 26 years. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church of Ellaville, Georgia. He was married to the former Linda Settles.
 
He leaves to cherish his memories: a wife, Linda Harris, Americus, Georgia; two children, Deondra C. Harris, Valdosta, Georgia and Desmond S. Harris, Columbus, Georgia; two sisters, Doris Harris, Fairburn, Georgia, Brenda Kimbrough (Alexander), Americus, Georgia; mother-in-law, Rosa Crockett, Augusta, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Walter Crockett (Sue), Korea, and Patrick Crockett, St. Petersburg, Florida; two aunts, Beulah Mae Harris and Missouri Harris, both of Americus, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including his extended family, Pamela Angry, Lydia Walker, Luneda Brown, Tracy Wilson, and many other caring friends. A very special thank you to Dr. Jani,  the Phoebe Sumter Oncology Center and the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

Juanita Hawkins Gordon, age 95, passed Thursday, August 27, 2015.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Union Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church, Will Spivey Street, Ellaville, Georgia.  Interment will follow in the Union Hill A.M.E. Church Cemetery.

Juanita Hawkins Gordan was born January 6, 1920 in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia to the late Reverend David Green and Rosa Mae Jackson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George Jackson and Red Jackson. She was educated in the public school system of Schley County, Georgia where she was a graduate of Schley County High School.  After her completion of high school, she moved to New York City where she obtained a degree in Cosmetology.  

She moved back to her native land where she married the late Bennie K. Gordan.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian at the Union Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church of Ellaville, Georgia where she served on the Stewardess Ministry Board, Missionary Auxiliary Board, sexton of the cemetery for several years, and Sunday school teacher. Her extensive services in the 6th Episcopal District included membership in the Layman Department.

Juanita is known for her caring hearts and open door policy.  The doors of her hearts hung on hangers of love.  She was always willing in some way or another to help somebody in special needs of a home and mother, for this was her God given talent.

Her survivors are her beloved son, John Elijiah Gordan, Ellaville, Georgia. Her extended family and children of love and caring include Lora McCants (Curtis), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Pamela Gordan, New Jersey,  John Boone, Mark Boone, James Davis, Jerry Wimbrush and Bobby Wimbrush, all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Maurice Wimberly, Montezuma, Georgia, Jimmie Lee Lewis, Vienna, Georgia, Sam Collins, Jackson, Georgia, and Jacqueline Turner, Atlanta, Georgia. There were many other children too numerous to name, but will never be forgotten.  She also leaves one brother, George Lyles, Preston, Georgia; her loving and caring grandchildren, Marcia, Kiara, Lisa, Monique, Laquinta, Dorian, Kwame and Trevoris McCants, all of Oglethorpe, Georgia; a host of great grandchildren including Lasia McCant and Jamayih Gaultney; a host of beloved nieces and nephews, Ollie Anderson (Perry), Weston, Florida, Ronza King (Patricia), Jacksonville, Georgia, Celestine Sampson, Ellaville, Georgia, Benita Sampson, Buena Vista, Georgia, Milton Sampson, Kiyana Sampson, Bennie K. Sampson, all of Ellaville, Georgia, Judith Jackson, Jacksonville, Florida, Sherriff Shane Tondee (Cristy), Ellaville, Georgia; a host of beloved friends, other relatives and her Christian Family of Union Hill A.M.E. Church. A very devoted friend Ms. Amy Lester. Special thanks to Home Nurses Inc. of Griffin, Georgia, Brittney Fudge and LaShonda Hinton.

Mrs. Ceolia T. Roberts, age 81, 109 Lexington Circle, Americus, Georgia passed Thursday, August 27, 2015.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 1, 2015, Inspirational Church By Faith, 714 Adderton Street, Americus, Georgia, Elder Larry Taylor, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Old Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 26, Leslie, Georgia.

 
Mrs. Ceolia T. Roberts was born in Webster County on December 29, 1933 to the parents of the late Mr. Stout Taylor and the late Mrs. Celia Shelton Taylor.

She received her education in Webster County school system. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John W. Roberts; a son Nickey Roberts; seven sisters, Mrs. Elma Culliver, Mrs. Thelma Hurley, Mrs. Georgia Lee Broner, Mrs. Rossie Lee Young, Mrs. Essie Johnson, Mrs. Annie Colbert, Mrs. Tommie Brown; and one brother Bishop John T. Taylor.

She leaves to mourn her passing: a daughter, Mrs. Julia Lynn (Thomas) Reagan; three grandsons, Mr. James Terell (Michelle) Davis, LaKendrick Tovoski (Keia) Taylor, Mr. Tovaris Davis (Jay Williams); one aunt Lois Shelton; three sisters, Mrs. Liille Mae Cladd, Mrs. Lady B. Sims, Mrs. Elnora Girvin, five sisters–in-law, Mrs. Lois Taylor, Mrs. Lois McWhorter, Mrs. Daisy Miller, Mrs. Ozene Laster, Mrs. Carylon Roberts; four brothers-in-law, Mr. Cooper Roberts, Mr. Charles Roberts, Mr. James Roberts, and Mr. Alex Brown; 15 devoted great grandchildren, Kell, Kierra, Tierra, Te’ Yunda, Jamari, Peaches, T.J., NyNa, Carter, Kya, Asia, and Jordon; her special helpers, Zierra Davis, James, J.D., Davis, Parrish; one devoted niece, Shirley Cook; a devoted stepdaughter Donna Cladd; devoted nephews, Jeffery Roberts, Terell Roberts, Johnnie B. Christine Jackson Terry, age 88, 349 North Thompson St., Ellaville, Georgia passed Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Sumter Retirement Village, Plains, Georgia.  

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Union Hill A.M.E. Church, Will Spivey Street, Ellaville, Georgia.  The Reverend Jeff Davis, III will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Conner Mill Road, Ellaville, Georgia.

Christine was born April 18, 1927 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the late Rudolph Jackson and Arrice Shipp Jackson.  She was preceded in death by two siblings, Neppie Thompson and James Jackson.  She was married to the late Morris Terry, and to this union they were blessed with one daughter, Kathy.

Christine confessed and followed her spiritual training and joined the band of Christian believers at Union Hill A.M.E. Church of Ellaville, Georgia.  Her dedication to God and her family took precedent over everything else.  She was secretary of the Missionary Society,  Sunday school teacher, Stewardess Board Member, Layperson of the Dublin and Columbus Circuits, and a retired Teacher Association.

Being a concerned citizen of her community, she served as a city councilwoman for several years.  She was a member of the Ellaville Light OES, in which she served in various capacities.

She was a 1939 graduate of Ellaville High School and a 1943 graduate of Ft. Valley State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood. Later, she acquired her certification in Special Education.  After thirty-eight years of dedicated services in the field of education, she retired in 1983. 

She leaves a legacy of love and memories to her beloved family, which include the following: a loving daughter, Kathy Terry Lucas, Ellaville, Georgia; two grandsons, Curtis Lucas, III, Atlanta, Georgia and Daringer Morris Lucas, Lawrenceville, Georgia; one great grandson, Tyson Jahmir Lucas, Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Marian Kea, Akron, Ohio; sister-in-law, Barbara Jackson, Columbus, Georgia; four nieces and three nephews; and a host of beloved relatives, friends and her Christian Family.

Mrs. Maggarie King McCluster, age 72, 1876 Hwy 41, Preston, Georgia passed Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia. 


The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 407 Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia, where Bishop Melvin McCluster is the pastor.  Pastor Joe Oglesby of Greater Good Hope Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Zion Road, Ellaville, Georgia.
 
Maggarie King McCluster was born May 22, 1943 in Ellaville, Georgia. She was the daughter of Olivia Lynn Carter King and Louis King, who both preceded her in death.   At an early age, she joined the band of Christian Believers at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ellaville, Georgia.  She served faithfully on the Usher Board Ministry and other capacities of the church she loved so well.

She graduated as Valedictorian in 1960 from John Lewis High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education of Fort Valley State University and a Masters Degree in Language Arts from Georgia Southwestern State University.  For 38 years, she taught English at D. F. Douglass High School, John Lewis High School and Tri-County High School until her retirement in 1998.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 16 years, Jonah McCluster, Preston, Georgia; siblings, Melinda King Brown of Ellaville, Georgia, Louis King, Jr. of Rome, Georgia and James Elbert King of Decatur, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Thelma Thornton, Bernice Ivory, both of Columbus, Georgia, and Sylvia Simmons (Fred) of Charleston, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Willie McCluster (Terry)  of Charleston, South Carolina, Bishop Melvin McCluster (Shermeanetter) of Americus, Georgia and Nathaniel McCluster (Carla) of Beloit, Wisconsin; aunt, Doris Lloyd of Jacksonville, Florida; uncle, George Carter, Childersburg, Alabama; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be contacted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 29, 2015 at St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 215 Railroad Street, Marshallville, Georgia.  Interment will follow in Colonel Felton Cemetery, Marshallville, Georgia.

Antonial was born September 20, 1976 to Gerald Phelps and Carolyn White in Macon, Georgia. He was educated in the public school system of Peach County in Fort Valley, Georgia where he acquired his high school diploma in 1995 for Peach County High School.  

Antonial accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and joined the band of Christian believers at Bethel Baptist Church in Marshallville, Georgia.  Antonial enjoyed working with his hands and was employed as a construction worker and truck driver over the years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mildred Phelps and General Phelps, Sr.

Antonial was an outspoken, loving, caring family man. Queen Esther Tookes Minter, age 64, 560 Minter Road, Ellaville, Georgia passed Saturday August 15, 2015 at Emory Midtown Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday August 22, 2015 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, corner of Russell and Johnson Streets, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Reverend Norris Harris, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Zion Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.

Queen, as her loved ones and friends affectionately called her, was born May 6, 1951 to the late Willie Luke Tookes and Mary Louis Harpe Tookes. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County, Georgia, where she acquired her elementary education from the Historic Oglethorpe Grammar School under the leadership of Professor Pauline Fields. She was a 1970 honor graduate of D.F. Douglass High School under the leadership of the late Professor T.E. Moone. She was a 1992 graduate of South Georgia Technical College with a degree in Cosmetology.

Queen was united in holy matrimony to Colvin Minter, August 17, 1973, and to this union, they were blessed with one daughter, Colbretta Q. Minter and one grandson, Jonathan Luke Thompson.

Queen accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church under the late Reverend Hudson. Later, the family moved their membership to St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she so joyfully lifted up her praise and worship as a soprano in the Oglethorpe A.M.E. Mass Choir. She was the senior Sunday school teacher and also served as a Stewardess. In the Oglethorpe Circuit, she served as a layman, director of Children Youth Department. For several years, she was a foster parent.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Marvin Tookes.

Survivors are a beloved husband of 43 years, Colvin Minter; daughter, Colbretta Q. Minter, Ellaville, Georgia; grandson, Jonathan Luke Thompson, Ellaville, Georgia; siblings, Henry Leonard Tookes (Naomi), Jacksonville, Florida, Willie Eldred Tookes, Fort Valley, Georgia, Mary Ann Edward, Montezuma, Georgia, Doddie Tookes, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Irma Tookes, Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Gloria Dean Thomas (Rev. James), Buena Vista, Georgia; aunt, Ida Mae Tookes, Atlanta, Goergia; sister-in-law, Cheryl Tookes, Jacksonville, Georgia; brother-in-law, John Smith Minter, Americus, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Deborah Jones Rhine, age 54, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Saint Francis Hospital, Columbus, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 17, 2015 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, McDuffie Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. Reverend Gregory Porter, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Oliver Street, Buena Vista, Georgia.  
 
Deborah Jones Rhine was born April 10, 1961. She is the daughter of Hattie Jones and the late Lonzo Jones. A host of uncles and aunts also preceded her in death. 
 
She was a 1978 graduate of Tri–County High School. She attended Albany State University of Albany, Georgia where she pursued a degree in Business.  She was a member of Yuletide Chapter #383.  At an early age, she joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Buena Vista, Georgia. She served as a Deaconess and a choir member.  She was employed as the city clerk for Buena Vista for many years and later for the city of Cusseta, until her health declined.
 
She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted mother, Hattie Jones of Buena Vista, Georgia; aunts, Susie Minter, Columbus, Georgia and Catherine Fudge, an aunt whom she cherished and called Aunt Catherine; a host of cousins and friends, including two devoted Louvenia Clark, Buena Vista, Georgia and Lamont Daise, Phoenix City, Alabama.

Jimmy Lee Whitehead, age 73, passed on Sunday, August 9, 2015 Miona Nursing Home, Ideal, Georgia.

The committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Shiloh Cemetery, Corner of Shiloh and Lascoharvey Roads, Sumter County, Georgia.

Jimmy was born in Americus, Georgia to the late Bernice Whitehead and Rosetta Roach Whitehead.  He attended the public school system of Sumter County. He was employed with City of Americus and worked as a sanitation worker for many years.  He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Clarence Whitehead and Lois Wilborn.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura Demps, Jacksonville, Florida; granddaughter, Tasha Demps, Miami, Florida; sister Lillie Jackson, Riverdale, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and friends.

John Alfred Dozier, Jr., of Brooklyn, New York, departed from this life on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.

The funeral service will be held 12:00 P.M., Saturday, August 15, 2015 at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery, 221 Tower Point Road CR#21, Buena Vista, Georgia.

John A. Dozier, also known as Uncle Bruh, was born in Buena Vista, Georgia on December 11, 1953 to the late John A. Dozier, Sr. and Fannie Mae Brown Dozier. John attended public school system of Marion County. After leaving the public school system, he traveled up North to pursue job training and job placement in the manufacturing industry. Within a few years, John then returned home to Georgia to work in landscaping.

John Dozier was raised in Buena Vista, Georgia with his siblings under their loving and caring parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Dozier, Sr. He was the youngest son. “Bruh,” as he was affectionately called by his family, was known to be a soft spoken, shy, quiet man who enjoyed the outdoors. You could always find Bruh outside smiling and enjoying the weather.

John Dozier leaves to cherish his memories: ten siblings, Annie Louise Redding, Jamaica Queen, New York, Catherine McCarter, Columbus, Georgia, Bessie Dozier, Brooklyn, New York, Mary Ann Milliner (Winifred),  Windsor, Connecticut, Katie J. Milliner (Nathaniel),  Bloomfield, Connecticut, Ethel L. Walker,  (Jerome), Bolton, Connecticut, Patricia Ann Dozier, Windsor, Connecticut, Gwendolyn L. Dozier, Brooklyn, New York, Leroy Henderson, Brooklyn, New York, Jimmy Henderson (Emma), Windsor, Connecticut; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Eddie Ruth Denmark, and Pearl Mae Crump.
