The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Union Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church, Will Spivey Street, Ellaville, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Union Hill A.M.E. Church Cemetery.
Juanita Hawkins Gordan was born January 6, 1920 in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia to the late Reverend David Green and Rosa Mae Jackson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George Jackson and Red Jackson. She was educated in the public school system of Schley County, Georgia where she was a graduate of Schley County High School. After her completion of high school, she moved to New York City where she obtained a degree in Cosmetology.
She moved back to her native land where she married the late Bennie K. Gordan.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian at the Union Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church of Ellaville, Georgia where she served on the Stewardess Ministry Board, Missionary Auxiliary Board, sexton of the cemetery for several years, and Sunday school teacher. Her extensive services in the 6th Episcopal District included membership in the Layman Department.
Juanita is known for her caring hearts and open door policy. The doors of her hearts hung on hangers of love. She was always willing in some way or another to help somebody in special needs of a home and mother, for this was her God given talent.
Her survivors are her beloved son, John Elijiah Gordan, Ellaville, Georgia. Her extended family and children of love and caring include Lora McCants (Curtis), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Pamela Gordan, New Jersey, John Boone, Mark Boone, James Davis, Jerry Wimbrush and Bobby Wimbrush, all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Maurice Wimberly, Montezuma, Georgia, Jimmie Lee Lewis, Vienna, Georgia, Sam Collins, Jackson, Georgia, and Jacqueline Turner, Atlanta, Georgia. There were many other children too numerous to name, but will never be forgotten. She also leaves one brother, George Lyles, Preston, Georgia; her loving and caring grandchildren, Marcia, Kiara, Lisa, Monique, Laquinta, Dorian, Kwame and Trevoris McCants, all of Oglethorpe, Georgia; a host of great grandchildren including Lasia McCant and Jamayih Gaultney; a host of beloved nieces and nephews, Ollie Anderson (Perry), Weston, Florida, Ronza King (Patricia), Jacksonville, Georgia, Celestine Sampson, Ellaville, Georgia, Benita Sampson, Buena Vista, Georgia, Milton Sampson, Kiyana Sampson, Bennie K. Sampson, all of Ellaville, Georgia, Judith Jackson, Jacksonville, Florida, Sherriff Shane Tondee (Cristy), Ellaville, Georgia; a host of beloved friends, other relatives and her Christian Family of Union Hill A.M.E.
