Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Union Hill A.M.E. Church, Spivey Street, Ellaville, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Melvin Lewis Tookes
March 20, 1953 – February 14, 2024

Summary of Life

Melvin Lewis Tookes passed away on February 14, 2024 at the age of 70. He was born to the late Albert Tookes, Sr. and Mary Tookes on March 20, 1953. Melvin was born into a family of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Alice Tookes, and one brother, Curtis James Tookes. On December 18, 1971, Melvin married the love of his life, the late Wilma Kaigler Tookes, whom he affectionately called “Honey”. To this union they were blessed with four children. Melvin was educated in the Macon County School System. He developed a career as a diesel mechanic.

On January 2, 1971 Melvin was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, remaining a faithful servant for 53 years, using those years to share with others the good news about the true God, Jehovah. In Melvin’s spare time he enjoyed tinkering with cars and trucks, assisting anyone who needed his help, and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed training and spending time with his dogs; Melvina referred to him as the ‘Dog Whisperer’. His beloved and loyal dogs were Smokie, Lucy, and Sissy.

He leaves a long legacy of lots of love and tons of joyful memories to his beloved family which includes his loving, children: Melvina Tookes, Perry, GA, Vergil Tookes (Kim), Jonesboro, GA, Jonathan Tookes (Ashley), Oglethorpe, GA and Elizabeth Tookes Greene (O’Neal), Leslie, GA; his siblings, Pearlie Robinson (John), St. Petersburg, FL, Joeann Tookes Hodges (McNeil), Montezuma GA, Albert Tookes Jr., Fort Valley, GA, Jesse “Ben” Tookes, Lakeland FL, and Ouida Tookes Jefferson, Oglethorpe GA; sisters & brothers-in-law, Johnnie Mae Tookes, Oglethorpe, GA, Johnnie Mae Hinton, Decatur, GA, and Betty Solomon (Coleman), Oglethorpe, GA; Grandchildren: Demarius Tookes (Simone), Deonte Tookes, Devontavious Williams, DeQuantez Williams, Jasmine Henderson, Londyn Greene, Jonathan Tookes Jr., Kassidy Tookes, Christopher Bell, Jeremy Hardy; a large host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Union Baptist Church, Norris Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Hwy 26 W, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Juretha was born April 6, 1964, to Charlie C. Stewart and the late Minnie Schofield. She was the beloved granddaughter of the late Roosevelt and Jannie Williamson Schofield and the late Will and Louise Stewart. She also was preceded in death by one child, Arabian Schofield, and one brother, Charles Humphries. She was a graduate of D.F. Douglass High School whereas she was a dynamic basketball player. She was employed with First Realm Processing plant until her health began to decline.

She leaves many fond memories to her son Demero Schofield Sr., Montezuma, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Omarrion Schofield, Kaylee Schofield, Demero Schofield Jr., Indyia Schofield, and Chanel McDonald; Father Charlie C. Stewart: a beloved sister Sheila Schofield Burnan (Gerald), Montezuma, Georgia and six other siblings, Alvin Humphries, Carl Humphries, Lenora Humphries, Julie Humphries, Carlyn Humphries; three nieces and nephews, Matthew Schofield, Marita Schofield, and Shanikki Schofield; aunts and uncles, Walter B. (Artie) Schofield, Jacksonville, Florida, Jannie Schofield Beal, Montezuma, Georgia, Roosevelt Schofield, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Johnny Schofield (Darlene) Reno, NV, Jerry Schofield (Emma), Jacksonville, Florida, Helen Schofield, Jacksonville, Florida, Leo Stewart (Sarah), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Weddie Bell Stewart, Montezuma, Georgia, Daisy Stewart, Hampton, Virginia; god sisters Bertha Clark (Douglass), Sharon Gary (Jim), god brothers Richard “Doc” Simpson, Archer Simpson; caretaker Carolyn Loman, Laverne Perkins, and Patricia Phillip. ​

Samuel Louis Bottom

Samuel Louis Bottom, age 74, passed on February 14, 2024.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church, 500 Evans Street, Marshallville, Georgia. His final resting place will be the Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia.

​Samuel Louis “Superman” Bottom was born November 4, 1949, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Ella Rumph Bottom and the late Fred Bottom Sr. Sam, as he was called by family and friends, was reared by his grandmother the late Amanda “Ms. Manda” Rumph. He is preceded in death by several siblings. Sam attended the public school system of Macon County and public school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He furthered his education through a technical school in Macon, Georgia. At an early age, he joined the band of Christian believers at Bethel Baptist Church. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp., where he received several medals including the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed over the years with various companies including Blue Bird Body Company and he retired from A.M. Brickley after many years of dedicated service. Sam was a proud member of the Gospel Sons.

Two hearts became one when Sam married the woman of his dreams, Brenda Louise Harris Robinson. His heart was now complete after years of chasing his one true love. And to this blessed union his only son was born. He now rests in the presence of the Lord next to his son, Braxton Bottom. Sam was also the proud father of four daughters who he adored and they adored him.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his devoted wife Brenda Louise Harris Robinson Bottom; loving daughters Latonya Slappy, Chrystal Bottom, Kaytara Bottom and Sheronda (Ivery) Mitchell; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; siblings Ella Postell, Fred Bottom Jr. (Mary), Penny Skinner, Earlene Green (Walter), Mary Sands, Tommy Bottom (Daria), Lynn Knight, Monica Morris (Melvin), Anna Wallace (Eddie); step mother Priscilla Bottom; brothers and sisters in law Chester Harris, Tommy Harris (Frances), Alfred Harris (Connie); beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and beloved friends including a dear friend Eddie Smith.

Willie Clyde Sims was born on July 6, 1950, in Ellaville, Georgia to the late Annie Myrtice Sims and the late Walter Hosley. He was preceded in death by siblings: Henry Sims Jr., Annie Jean Byse, Vincent Sims, Fred Douglass Hosley, Burnnie “Mae” Fulks Nelson and Fletcher Sims.

He was blessed to be a father of three children: Angela Faye James of Alsip, Illinois, Shawn Willie Davis, and Maurice Davis of Riverdale, Illinois. The grandfather of Shawn Davis and Anthony Davis of Illinois and great grandfather of King Omari Davis, Julien Davis and Jordyn Davis. Those cherishing his memory also include siblings Paul Fulks, Catherine Little (Hubert), and Jorain Scott (Robert) of Ellaville, Georgia, Lizzie Mae Smith, Jim Sims, Glenda Tookes (Charlie), and Zelma Harden (Johnny) of Atlanta, Georgia, Lester Joe Fulks of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Herbert Fulks of Cincinnati, Ohio; Juliette Raines and Irene Rogers of Ideal, Georgia, Zack Hosley (Faye), and Steve Hosley of Montezuma, Georgia, Jerome Hosley (Gloria) of Macon Georgia, and Sandra Hosley of Hartford, Connecticut. Aunts and uncles, Verdie Dell Fulks, Mary Alice Miller and Christine Mitchelle of Ellaville, Georgia; Bobbie Fulks (Henrietta) and; Willie James Fulks (Essie) of Ellaville, GA. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Wayne Felton was born on December 2, 1957, to the late Arlee Cochran and King David Ball. He was preceded in death by siblings Eloise Felton, Ernest Cochran, William Felton, and David Ball. He was a 1975  graduate of D.F. Douglass High School. He was employed by various companies.
 
He is survived by one daughter, Ronda M. Ward, four grandchildren whom he adored, Demorreal Burnam, Omarius Burnam, ShaMia Ward, and Demari Hardeman, Atlanta, Georgia; siblings Willie L. Felton, Gilbert Ball, Carol Ball, Michael Ball (Rochelle), Kimala and Yolanda Ball of Montezuma, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Mary Cochran and Shirley Felton; two aunts, Georgia Mae Johnson, Jonesboro, Thelma Gray, Oklahoma; one uncle John H. Ball, Macon, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service for Willie “Bobby” Jackson of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia with Reverend Jerome Glover officiating.

Willie “Bobby” Jackson, one of nine children, was born July 29, 1944, in Macon County, Georgia to the parentage of Marie Jackson and the late Mott Plass Jackson. Willie received his education through the Macon County Public School System. He transitioned into the work field after school to begin working with heavy machinery and becoming a jack of all trades.

Willie grew up in Magnolia Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia. Everyone knew him to be loving, caring, and loyal to his loved ones. Willie loved to be around his family and especially to spend time with his dear mother. He was funny and always the life of the party.

Willie peacefully transitioned on to glory on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, in the comfort of Willson Hospice Home in Albany, Georgia. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Charlie, Nathaniel, Cordel, and Edward Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted mother, Marie Jackson of Montezuma, Georgia; a daughter, Kimbly Nelson of Americus Georgia; a son, Tony Jackson of Americus, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jaqazeus Wallace of Atlanta, Georgia, Kebresha Baker of Albany, Georgia, Shatori Wallace of Americus, Georgia, and Chasten Ingram of Americus, Georgia; three sisters: Helen Williams of Rochester, New York, Emma Jackson of Montezuma, Georgia, and Julia Tookes (Isaiah) of Oglethorpe, Georgia; one brother: Reginald Jackson of Montezuma, Georgia; two sisters-in-law: Mary Helen Jackson and Brenda Jackson of Montezuma, Georgia; dedicated nieces, Kiwanna Jackson of Warner Robins, Georgia, Jaquona Green (Anthony) of Warner Robins, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends Earlene and Elvis Bryant of Oglethorpe, Georgia.
