Assata  Snipes, age 4, passed Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Macon Medical Center, Macon, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 5, 2015 at the United Holiness Church Headquarters, 901 Aaron Snipes, Sr. Drive, Americus, Georgia.  Bishop Arthur Fulton, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Baby Land Section of Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, Georgia.
 
Assata was born in Americus, Georgia May 30, 2010 to Sabrina Milledge and Antonio Snipes.  She is the sister of Isis Snipes; the paternal granddaughter of Henry (Ruby) Snipes and the late Alma Louise Snipes, Vienna, Georgia; and the maternal granddaughter of Constance Milledge and Stephfon Milledge.  
 
Others survivors include aunts and uncles, Stephfon Milledge, Jr., Lithonia, Georgia, Merry Milledge, Phoenix City, Alabama, Daphne (Andre) Lumpkin, Americus, Georgia,  Takila (Andrew) Towns, Cordele, Georgia, Brittany (Rodrique) Taylor, Stockbridge, Georgia, Jeffery Snipes, Orlando, Florida, Henry Snipes, III, Americus, Georgia, Quentin Snipes, Jaboris Snipes and Shantario Hardy all of Vienna, Georgia; and a host of beloved cousins and friends.

Robert Lee McDonald

Robert Lee McDonald, better known by family and friends as “Train,” passed Tuesday, December 30, 2014. 

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 26 West, Oglethorpe, Georgia. The Reverend Dr. George Porter, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Champ Waters Cemetery, 191 Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia.
 
Robert was born May 3, 1949 to the late Lavern Brown in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia. Robert was preceded in death by two siblings, Thelma Brown Henderson and William Brown, Jr. Robert was educated in the public school system of Macon County. He enlisted into the United States Army and after three years of dedicated services, he was honorably discharged. The flag that drapes his casket is given by a grateful nation for the services rendered to his country.
 
“Train,” as he was affectionately called by loved ones and friends, was employed with Pine Timber, Inc. of Oglethorpe, Georgia for over thirty years as a truck driver.
 
In 1970, he was united in holy matrimony to the former Lunell Hannor, and to this union they were blessed with three children. He was blessed to be the father of seven wonderful and loving children. One son, Ronnie McDonald, preceded him in death. All his children loved him dearly and that love was reciprocated by him.
 
Realizing that Jesus was his one and only Savior, he joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. George Porter.
 
Survivors are a beloved wife of forty-four years, Lunell H. McDonald, Oglethorpe, Georgia; his children, Robert (Stephanie) McDonald, Jr., Perry, Georgia, Pamela McDonald, Warner Robins, Georgia, Consandra Clay, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Tawanda Roberts, Americus, Georgia, Raven Fitzgerald,  Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Taran McDonald, Americus, Georgia; two siblings, Minister Willie C. (Brenda) Kleckley and Shirley Brown Cephus, all of Oglethorpe, Georgia;  grandchildren, Roshan, Joshua, Nyneshia, Ronnie, Jr., Cameron, Kaitlynn, Kaela, Lanorris, Kasim, Kaiden and A’Shvnye; three great grandchildren, Dymia, Arriyha, and Braylon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James Hannor, Voncile Adams, Carolyn B. Hannor, all of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Curla Hannor, Laura Hubbard (Anias), all of Montezuma, Georgia, Mary (Douglass) Gray, Bronx, New York, John (Annie Bell) Hannor, East Point, Georgia, and Mary Mathis, Niagara Falls, New York; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Oneida Mott, age 84, 408 Russell Street, Americus, Georgia passed Monday, December 29, 2014.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 2, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church, Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, where Rev. Melvin McCluster is pastor. Rev. Norris Harris, pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, will officiate.

Mother Oneida Mott was born March 11, 1930 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Zack Mott and Rosa Cameron Mott.  She was educated in the public school system of Americus, Georgia, where she was a graduate of Staley High School.  At an early age, she joined the membership of Welcome Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Welcome Choir and served proudly as the “Mother of the Church.” She supported her church in every facet of the church she loved so well.


During her career she was employed by Scott Bedding, Kinder Furniture Company, and later with Davidson Rubber Company, until she retired.  Her love and well wishes to her community expanded into the school system, her community affiliation to motivate her children in education and Christian events.  She was also a member of the Social Hour Club of Americus.

Mother Oneida Mott was united in holy matrimony to Shelby Christmas.  She was  blessed with five children.  She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly and that love was reciprocated.  She leaves a legacy of golden memories to her beloved family which include five loving children, Dwight Shelby Christmas (Evette), Marietta, Georgia, Dr. Denese Brownlee (Robert), Hampton, Georgia, Kenneth Christmas, Pamela Leverett, both of Americus, Georgia and Lisa Gail Christmas, Daytona Beach, Florida; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Mott (Nettie), Americus, Georgia; sister-in-law, Berta Mae Mott, Roselle, NJ, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Curtis Johnson

Mr. Curtis Johnson, age 71, 817 Mayo Street, Americus, Georgia passed Monday, December 22, 2014 at his home.

The memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 104 Packing House Road, Americus, Georgia.  The Bible Discourse will be delivered by Brother Arthur Berkeley.

Mr. Curtis Johnson was born March 15, 1943 to the late J. C. Johnson and Mary Alice Moreland Johnson.  He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County Board of Education, where he attended Southeast Elementary School of Desoto, Georgia.
 
He moved to New York City, New York at an early age.  He was employed as an offset printer for Empire Color Binding.  After retirement in 1989, he moved back to his native land, where he remained until his demise on December 22, 2014.
 
He was married to the former Mattie Faison, and to this union, they were blessed with three sons.  
Survivors are three sons, Kenneth F. Johnson, Ricky Faison (Shirley), and Von Faison, all of Newark, New Jersey; several grandchildren; seven siblings, Willie C. Johnson, Americus, Georgia, Elizabeth Johnson, Statesboro, Georgia, Bertha Allen, Jessie Johnson, both of Bronx, New York, Julius Johnson, Smithville, Georgia, Pauline Heath (Emmitt), Americus, Georgia, and Andrew Johnson, Statesboro, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Miss Valeria Davette Battle, age 43, Rocky Mount, North Carolina passed on December 22, 2014.

The wake service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Jehovah Baptist Church, 201 Chatham Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Reverend Glenn Bryant will officiate.

Valeria Davette Battle was born December 29, 1970 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to David Battle and the late Elma Smith Battle. Valeria was a 1988 graduate of Americus High School in Americus, Georgia.  During her college years, Valeria was very active in the Albany State University Golden Rams Marching Band. She was a Kappa Kappa Psi Melody. During her professional career, she coached the Academic Quiz Bowl Team. She led her team to several victories. She graduated from Albany State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.  After completing her studies, Valeria continued to advance in her field of education. 

She was employed by the Franklin County School system of North Carolina AIG Language Arts teacher. She was a member of NCAE, Order of Eastern Stars, and Real Sistas Social Club.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a father David Battle, Americus, Georgia; four siblings, her twin sister - Vanessa Battle Edison, Tampa, Florida, Patricia Battle Bullard, Albany, Georgia, Deborah A. Bryant (Rev. Glenn), and Ray Johnson (Martha), Americus, Georgia. She had one devoted niece Tameco D. Battle. In addition, she had ten nieces and nephews: Monte T. Battle (Marika), Octavia T. Campbell, Albert M Campbell Jr. (Catrina), David K. Battle, Marcus A. Campbell, April L. Walker (Steven), Brandon A. Campbell, Brandi C. Mitchell (Phillip), Glenn Bryant, Jr., Angel R. Johnson. A host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Bernadette Diane Bell, age 53, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia.
 
The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 184 Dixon Drive, Cobb, Georgia. Apostle John K. Lundy will officiate.
 
Bernadette Diane Bell was born June 24, 1961 in Cobb, Georgia to Frank Brown and the late Erma Gaines Brown.
 
Bernadette was educated in the public school system of Sumter County and was a 1979 graduate of the historic Union High School in Leslie, Georgia. She furthered her education at South Georgia Technical College where she graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Office.

Bernadette accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She started her membership at New Zion Baptist Church in Cobb, Georgia.  Later on, she transitioned her membership to New Beginning Outreach Ministry in Americus. Bernadette worked for Davidson Textron Company in Americus, Georgia for many years as a Quality Control Auditor.
 
On November 29, 1985, Bernadette was joined in Holy Matrimony to Henry Bell, and to this union, two children were born.
 
She leaves a life of love and precious memories to her devoted husband of 29 years, Henry Bell, Sr.; two children, Henry Bell, III and Brianna Bell, both of Americus, Georgia; a father, Frank Brown, Cobb, Georgia; eight siblings, Patricia Ann Brown, Calvin Leon Brown, Glenn Eli Brown, Anthony Wayne Brown, all of Americus, Georgia, Chris Allen Brown (Charlotta), Baltimore, Maryland, Ray Anthony Brown, Americus, Georgia, Miranda Ann Thomas (Cedrick), Leesburg, Georgia, and Jeffery Milan Brown, Americus, Georgia; aunts, Margie C. Raney Brooks, age 56, 99 Cora Drive, Ellaville, Georgia passed Wednesday, December 23, 2014 at the Lillian Carter Nursing Center, Plains, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday morning, December 30, 2014 at Union Hill A.M.E. Church, Will Spivey Street, Ellaville, Georgia. Reverend Coley Clark, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

Raney was born July 18, 1958 to the late Ella Brooks Williams in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia. He was a 1976 graduate of John Lewis High School of Ellaville, Georgia. While living in Atlanta, Georgia, he was a dry wall finisher and cook.

He is survived by four siblings, Boyette (Sadie) Brooks, Atlanta, Georgia, Katie Bell Jefferson, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Vernell Brooks, Ellaville, Georgia, Willie Arthur Williams, Ellaville, Georgia; aunt, Lucy Kate Bass, Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Louise Collier, age 68, passed on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia.
 
The memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Meadows' Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.  Minister Phillip Fowler will officiate.
 
Dorothy  Louise Collier was born January 7, 1946 in Montezuma, Georgia to the late  David Collier and Odessa Collier. She was preceded in death by five siblings: David Collier, Charles Collier, Authur Collier, Annie Forbes, and Annette  Collier.  
 
Dorothy was educated in the public school system of Macon County and was a graduate of the historic D.F. Douglass High School in Montezuma, Georgia. Dorothy retired as a housekeeper after many years of dedicated services.    
 
Survivors are one son, Regginald Collier (Dawn), Locust Grove, Georgia; three  grandchildren, Justice Collier, Alexis Wimberly, and Amahad Basham; three siblings, Bernice Collier, Rosetta Turner, Mary Hambrick, all of Montezuma, Georgia; a companion, Eddie Harp; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends

John Bernard Wallace, age 53, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 27, 2014 at St. John A.M.E. Church, Hudson Street, Plains, Georgia. The Reverend Shirley Strawter, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Lebanon Cemetery, Plains, Georgia. 
 
John Bernard Wallace was born in Americus Sumter County, Georgia to the late Jimmy  Wallace and Ozie Bell Dew Wallace. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James T. Solomon and Bennie Wallace. He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County and was a 1979 graduate of Plains High School.

He was united in Holy matrimony in 1984 to Judy Brown Wallace, and to their union, they were blessed with one daughter, Kenya Wallace. He joined Greater New Lebanon Baptist Church at an early age where he served on the Usher Board Ministry.   He was employed with Golden Peanut Company of Plains, Georgia, where he was a Large Machine Operator. He also was employed with Tape Specialist of Georgia as a Machine Operator.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 30 years, Judy Brown Wallace, Plains, Georgia; his daughter, Kenya Wallace (Marvin), Americus, Georgia; three grandchildren, Ke’Torrian Reddick, Da’Kamerion Reddick, Arriyonna Wallace; three siblings, Earnest Solomon (Evelyn), Americus, Georgia, Clarence Solomon (Rosa Mae), Americus, Georgia, Jimmy Wallace (Cindy),  Louisville, Kentucky; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Virginia Wallace, Fannie Brown, Gwendolyn Brown, Nathaniel Brown, and Dorothy Brown, all of Plains, Georgia, Tommis Brown (Lelia), Cordele, Georgia, Albert Brown (Annie), Hartford, Connecticut; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, including several devoted -  Betty J. L. J. Griffin, age 79, 2753 Garden Valley Rd., Ideal, Georgia  passed Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon, Georgia.    

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Corinth Baptist Church, GA Highway 127 - Garden Valley Community, Ideal, Macon County, Georgia, where Reverend Governor Gibson is pastor.   The Reverend Isaiah Tookes  will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
 
L. J. was born August 17, 1935 in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia to the late Charlie Griffin, Sr. and the late Savannah Davis Griffin.  He was preceded in death by five siblings: Charlie H. Griffin, Jr., Farrie Lee Griffin Bailey, Pauline Griffin Rucker, Mary Griffin Rucker, and Bertha B. Griffin Mathis. 
 
L.J. was educated in the public school system of Macon County, where he attended the historic Wilbur Hall A.M.E. Church Elementary School of the Garden Valley Community.  After completion of school, L. J. enlisted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged December 7th, 1957.  He was the recipient of several ribbons, commendations, and medals, including the marksman rifleman award. L. J. was employed with Mulcoa Mineral  of Andersonville, Georgia  and after many dedicated years of service, he retired as a front-end loader.
 
L. J. was united in holy matrimony to Corine Harris Griffin, and they were blessed with seven children. One daughter, Clara Regina Griffin, preceded him in death.
 
On Saturday morning, December 20, 2014  L. J.  Griffin departed this earthly life, but never the less he has gained new life. Thou art gone to the grave, but we will not deplore there, God was thy ransom and thy guide.  He gave his life that we may have a right to the tree of life.  “Sleep on dear one, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.”  We love you as much today, as we did yesterday and even more tomorrow.
 
He leaves a legacy of love and memories to his beloved family: a loving and devoted wife, Corine Harris Griffin, Ideal, Georgia; his beloved children, Gilbert (Mary) Harris, Ideal, Georgia, Joyce Griffin (Samuel Donell) Jones, East Point, Georgia, Cynthia Griffin (Lorenzo) Patterson, Jonesboro, Georgia, Michael Griffin, Ideal, Georgia, Bobby R. Griffin, Decatur, Georgia, and Shelia Griffin (Leon) Davis, Americus, Georgia; five grandchildren, Keysha Harris (Stephen) Knights, Locus Grove, Georgia, Trae Jones, East Point, Georgia, Samuel Jamal Jones, East Point, Georgia, Phaedra Griffin (the granddaughter he helped to rear), Ideal, Georgia, and Jessica Davis, Americus, Georgia; three great grandchildren, Eli Knights, Ethan Knights and Elliott Knights; one sister, Corene Griffin Sparks, Montezuma, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
