Mrs. Oneida Mott, age 84, 408 Russell Street, Americus, Georgia passed Monday, December 29, 2014.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 2, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church, Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, where Rev. Melvin McCluster is pastor. Rev. Norris Harris, pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, will officiate.

Mother Oneida Mott was born March 11, 1930 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Zack Mott and Rosa Cameron Mott.  She was educated in the public school system of Americus, Georgia, where she was a graduate of Staley High School.  At an early age, she joined the membership of Welcome Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Welcome Choir and served proudly as the “Mother of the Church.” She supported her church in every facet of the church she loved so well.

During her career she was employed by Scott Bedding, Kinder Furniture Company, and later with Davidson Rubber Company, until she retired.  Her love and well wishes to her community expanded into the school system, her community affiliation to motivate her children in education and Christian events.  She was also a member of the Social Hour Club of Americus.

Mother Oneida Mott was united in holy matrimony to Shelby Christmas.  She was  blessed with five children.  She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly and that love was reciprocated.  She leaves a legacy of golden memories to her beloved family which include five loving children, Dwight Shelby Christmas (Evette), Marietta, Georgia, Dr. Denese Brownlee (Robert), Hampton, Georgia, Kenneth Christmas, Pamela Leverett, both of Americus, Georgia and Lisa Gail Christmas, Daytona Beach, Florida; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Mott (Nettie), Americus, Georgia; sister-in-law, Berta Mae Mott, Roselle, NJ, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To the Mott Family sorry for your loss. I will truly miss seeing her every other day. She always had a smile on her face when I arrived at her home. She was just like a Mother to me. There will always be a place in my heart for her. Rest in peace my sweetie.
