Eddie Mae Jackson was born the second child and oldest daughter to the parentage of Eddie Daniel Jackson and Annie Lou Merritt Jackson on September 18, 1947 in Americus, Georgia.

Eddie Mae was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, graduating from Sumter County High School in 1965. She was reared giving thanks and service to God at New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Soon after graduating from high school, Eddie Mae married and moved to Hartford Connecticut where she and her husband welcomed two handsome sons, Eddie “Stevie”, Jr. and Calvin, to the family and she doted on them whenever and wherever she could.  Eddie Mae secured employment at Pratt and Whitney where she mastered her craft as an inspector.  She often shared stories about her experiences and relationships gained there.  She remained at Pratt and Whitney for many years until she decided to retire and soon returned to Georgia.

Eddie Mae married Eugene Williamson of Schley County and they shared over 20 years of love and devotion until his passing in October 2020.

As she settled back into a more calming and serene “country” life, Eddie Mae would not sit still and even though retired, she continued to work.  She found a new love of service for children in the Sumter County School System.  Eddie was drawn to lending herself to special needs students and relished numerous opportunities to hone in on her giving spirit and joyful personality through developing bonds with them and their families.

“Mrs. E.”, as she was affectionally known by her students and colleagues, always displayed a natural sense of caring and purpose which soon radiated throughout the building and eventually everyone grew to know and love her.

She was a free spirit and easily adapted with any population, whether young or old. She never met a stranger.  Eddie Mae was generous, mild-mannered, kindhearted, and caring.  She loved to cook and was well known for her delicious sweet potato pies.  She was an unwavering caregiver to her father, mother, aunt and husband.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Wallace, Samuel, Burl, and Patricia and her special aunt, Sylinda ”Nig” King, who was like a second mother to her.

Eddie Mae received her final call and release of service from this life on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.  Her legacy of love and fond memories will be cherished by all that knew and loved her.
