Henry Hammock, Jr., age 41, 233 White Rd., Montezuma, Georgia passed Friday, December 30, 2011.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 7, 2011 at New Hope Baptist Church Highway 26 East, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Georgia Highway 26 East, Montezuma, Georgia. The Reverend Coley Clark, Jr., pastor of Zion Grove Baptist Church, will officiate.

Henry Hammock, Jr. was born September 21, 1970 to Mary Smith Hammock and to the late Henry Hammock, Sr. He was the grandson of the late Willie Mae Smith Kaigler and Nathaniel Smith. He acquired his education in the Macon County School System. Henry accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined Zion Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E.L. Clark. Henry was well known and loved by his neighbors and friends. He especially will be missed by his homies at Troy's Snack Shop.

Survivors are a beloved mother, Mary Smith Hammock, Montezuma, Georgia; his sister, Diann Marie Hammock, Montezuma, Georgia; his little nephew, Josha Hammock, Montezuma, Georgia; aunts and uncles Hattie Eley, Tacoma, Washington, Annie Allen (Willie James), Sammie Smith, Augustus Smith (Marie Allen Johnson), and Patricia Smith, (James Simmons) all of Montezuma, Georgia, Carolyn Smith, Hartford, Connecticut, and Thelma Kaigler, Warner Robins, Georgia; a host of beloved cousins including several devoted, Little Henry Smith, Alphoso Smith, Christopher Allen, Denae Simmons, Melody Oliver, Letita Henry, Rosa Allen, Shelia Smith, Nefitary Oliver, Shandra Allen, Janice Allen and Terry Smith; and a host of beloved friends.

Mrs. Catherine Minter King, age 75, 3931 SR 26 East, Ellaville, Georgia passed Monday, December 26, 2011 at Phoebe Sumter Hospital, Americus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Quebec Baptist Church, 3931 Georgia Highway 26 West, Ellaville, Georgia. The Reverend John Henry Hollis, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Hope Well Cemetery, Hopewell Road, Ellaville, Georgia.

Mrs. Catherine Minter King, was born June 20, 1936 in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia to the late Mercer Minter, Sr. and Paulene Bryant Minter. Born in a family of fourteen siblings, she was preceded in death by nine, Carrie Lee Volley, Dollie Mae Cauley, Ocenia Minter, Mary Kate Monford, Louvine White, Mercer Minter, Jr., Eddie Lewis Minter, John Minter and Willie Lee Minter. She was educated in the public school system of Schley County. She was united in holy matrimony to the late James Henry “Flat” King, whereas she was blessed to be the mother of twelve children, one son preceded her in death, Henry James “Doc” King. At an early age Catherine joined the band of Christian believers at Quebec Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Deaconess Board, treasure of the poor saint committee and kitchen committee. Catherine was very devoted to Quebec Baptist Church, the church she loved so well.

She leaves a legacy of loved and memories to her beloved family, which includes eleven children, Dianne Warren, Americus, Georgia, Ronnie King (Vivian), Ellaville, Georgia, Gail King, Lithonia, Georgia, Linda King, Atlanta, Georgia, Viola King (Edward Smith), Americus, Georgia, Tony King, Jacksonville, Florida, Ben King (Mary), Vienna, Georgia, Leslie Cole (Ronnie), Americus, Georgia, David King, (Chasity), Americus, Georgia Annie Pearl Stroud, Columbus, Georgia and Mary King, Delaware; twenty four grandchildren including several devoted, Faye King, Mathew King and Kent King; twenty eight great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren; four siblings, Myrtice McClendon (Al) Brooklyn, New York, Annie Kate Solomon, Brooklyn, New York, Michael, Atlanta, Georgia and Albert Minter, Lithonia, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Oscar Lee Pitts, age 92, 217 Lee Paul Road, Hawkinsville, Georgia passed Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Taylor Regional Hospital, Hawkinsville, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the New Mount Zion Community Church, Hawkinsville, Georgia. Rev. Arthur Jordan, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.

Mr. Pitts was born August 25, 1919 in Houston County, Georgia to the late Johnnie Pitts and Betty Mae Colson Pitts. He was educated in the public school system of Houston County. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Johnnie B. Pitts, Corine Little, Elnora Wilcox and David Pitts. He was married to the former Alberta Moore Pitts and to this union one daughter was born.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army. His enlistment date was 1941 and he was honorably discharged on November 4 1945. He was a recipient of the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one bronze star. He served with Battalion 3382nd Quartermaster Tr. Company.

After eighteen years of dedicated service, he retired from Robins Air Force Base in 1986 as an aircraft mechanic. He received his Christian training in the local churches of Houston and Pulaski Counties.

Survivors are one daughter, Shirley Leggett (Roland), Kathleen, Georgia; two grandchildren Elethia Tillman (Anthony) Atlanta, Georgia, Joe Woolfolk, Decatur, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Michael Tillman, Atlanta, Georgia and Donovan Woolfolk, Decatur, Georgia; one aunt, Daisy Hunter, Macon, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including two devoted friends, Lindsay Scott and Sam.

Mrs. Clara Maude McKenzie Williams, age 70, 7 Foxhill Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Thursday morning, December 22, 2011 at Coliseum Medical Center, Macon, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at First Salem Baptist Church, Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia. The Reverend Paul McFarland, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Mrs. Clara Maude McKenzie Williams was born January 26, 1941 to the late Manuel McKenzie and Maude Dean Miller McKenzie in Macon County, Georgia. She received her Christian training in the local churches. She was a member of First Salem Baptist Church. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County. She attended the historic Flint River Farm School in Macon County. After twenty-five dedicated years of service, she retired from Southern Frozen Foods, Inc. as a small machine operator.

She was united in Holy matrimony to the late Wallace Williams, Sr. in June 1958. To this union, they were blessed with four children. Clara Maude was blessed to rear her siblings as her own children. Two siblings, Willie B. Kaigler and Carrie Bell Pryor Williams, preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memories are five children, David Williams (Teresa), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Wallace Williams, Jr., Jonesboro, Georgia, Clara D. Williams, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Douglas Williams (Cassandra), Stone Mountain, Georgia and Marcus Turner, Oglethorpe, Georgia; her eight siblings, five of whom she reared as her own, Edward Pryor (Sharon), Orlando, Florida, Elton Pryor, Marietta, Georgia, Lula Pryor Stokes (Thomas), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Gloria Pryor Green, Oglethorpe, Georgia and Linda Pryor Woodard, Warner Robins, Georgia; Willie Ruth McKenzie, Atlanta, Georgia, Manuel Little, Macon, Georgia and Lizzie McKenzie King, Vienna, Georgia; Nine grandchildren, LaTasha Williams, David Leon Williams, Carmel Tye, (Charles) Shaneka Williams, Neisha Hudson, Jasmine Williams, Douglas Williams, Jr., Monica Williams, Taniya Turner; five great grandchildren, Devin Williams, Nyla Evans, Da’Karri Whitehead, Charles Tye and Ellis Tye; uncle, Charles Miller, Chicago, Illinois; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives including a devoted cousin, Willie James Steven, Macon, Georgia and a host of friends.

Andrew Garry, Sr., age 67, 207 Staley Street, Americus, Georgia passed Saturday morning. December 17, 2011 at Phoebe Putney, Albany, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Friday, December 23, 2011 at the St. John Baptist Church, Allen Street, DeSoto, Georgia. Rev. Calvin James will officiate. Burial will follow in the Staley Memorial Cemetery, corner of Mayo Street and Souther Field Road, Americus, Georgia.

Mr. Garry was born February 6, 1944 to the late Arthur Lee Garry and Catherine Clark Garry. He was retired from Davidson Rubber Company as a welder and tool maintenance person. He was a member of the St. John Baptist Church where he served as a usher. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Andrew Jackson Garry and a sister, Mattie Sue Garry.

Survivors are a beloved wife of forty eight years, Mary Robinson Garry, Americus, Georgia; four children, Cynthia Bell (Homer), Americus, Georgia, Dr. Tracie Sims, West Palm Beach, Florida, Regina Davis (Fred), Montezuma, Georgia and Cassie Garry (Sandra), Atlanta, Georgia; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; siblings, Arthur Garry, Leslie, Georgia, Charlie Lee Garry, Americus, Georgia, Will Garry, Far Rockaway, New York, and Willie Lue Clark (Georgie) Farrockaway, New York; aunt, Sarah Lue Simpson, Boynton Beach, Florida; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Sallie Mae Ford Jackson, age 98, formerly of Americus, Gerorgia passed Monday, December 12, 2011 at Memorial Pembroke Hospital, Pembroke Pines, Florida.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Big Bethel Baptist Church, 1330 North Jackson Street, Americus, Georgia. The Reverend Curtis Iverson, pastor of Triedstone Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, Georgia.

She was born March 9, 1913 to the late John Henry Ford and Julia Neal Ford in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margie Lee Wiggins, one son-in-law, York Green, and a niece, Ada Wade. She was educated in the Marion County School system. She first received church and Christian training was at Union Oak Grove Baptist Church, Andersonville, Georgia. At an early age, she joined Triedstone Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. E. B. Clark where she served faithfully at the church she loved so well. She served as the Mother of the Church from 1976 - 1998, Deaconess Ministry Board and Missionary Auxiliary Board. After many dedicated years of service, she retired as a Homemaker.

In June 1930, she was united in Holy matrimony to the late Taylor Jackson. She was blessed to be the mother of two daughters. After her health began to decline, she moved with her daughter, Marjorie, to Miami, Florida.

Survivors are two daughters, Rosa Green, Americus, Georgia and Marjorie Floyd (Sanford), Miami, Florida; seven loving grandchildren, Marcus Floyd, Safondra Floyd, both of Miami, Florida, Gloria Anderson, Americus, Georgia, Gwendolyn Ann Smith, Miami, Florida, Lewis Cornelius Smith, James Arthur Smith (Anna), and Ulysses Green, all of Americus, Georgia; sixteen loving great grandchildren; one niece, Julia Smith, Cleveland, Ohio; a host of other relatives and friends including several devoted friends, Annie Mae Paschal and Rubie Lusane.

Emmit M. Manson, age 71, 1116 Palisades Dr., Ellenwood, Georgia passed Wednesday, December 12, 2011.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Monday, December 19, 2011 at Wilber Hall A.M.E. Church, Georgia Highway 128, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow in the New Home Baptist Church Cemetery, Hicks District, Reynolds, Georgia. The Rev. Coley Clark, Jr. will officiate.

Emmit was born in Macon County, Georgia January 12, 1940 to the late Walter Manson and Lovie Ruth Gouch Manson. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County. After high school he moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where he work as a machinist at Wiremold Manfactory. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1976. In 1981 he became employed Boyle Midway Chemical Plant as a machine operator. Later he became employed Zep Manfactory where he retired as a machinist. He was married to Rosa Manson and this union was blessed with four children. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, he met and married the former Lizzie Knott and to this union they were blessed with four children.

Survivors are his wife, Lizzie K. Manson, Ellenwood, Georgia; children, Sherrill (Michael) Baskin, New York, Reginald Manson, Ellenwood, Georgia, Wayne Knott, Ellenwood, Georgia, Rachael (Alphonso) Arnold, Peachtree City, Georgia, Keith Knott, Ellenwood, Georgia, Karen Knott, Ellenwood, Georgia, Abigail (Earnest) Boyd, Kennesaw, Georgia and Corey Knott Ellenwood, Georgia; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; one brother-in-law, Joe (Nellie) Ivory, Birmingham, Alabama; sister-in-law, Lillian Manson, Texas; siblings, Carrion “Calvin” (Carmen) Manson, Perry, Georgia, Albert (Mildred) Manson, Atlanta, Georgia, Lizzie B. Roosevelt Whicker, Jr., age 62, 137 Oak Grove Court, Montezuma, Georgia passed Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Atlanta, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Preston Williams Family Center, Carl Peaster Blvd, Montezuma, Georgia. The Rev. Bobby Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, White Line Street, Montezuma, Georgia.

Roosevelt, Jr. better known as “Eater Bread” was born July 30, 1949 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Roosevelt Whicker Sr. and Annie Laura Pink Whicker. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County. “Eater-Bread,” as he was affectionately known, was self-employed. He helped many people in Macon County and touched many lives. He was that friend and that helping hand when you were in need. Macon County is a much better place because he did not only pass through, but he left a loving sign to those he touch along life way. He was a friend indeed.

About 15 years ago, he joined the Macon County Low Riders Club, where he thoroughly enjoyed being a part. He found his extended family. This family developed a love that went from heart to heart.

He is also survived by his Godly family which include six siblings, Ethel Whicker, Warner Robins, Georgia, Joe Whicker, Montezuma, Georgia, John Lee Whicker, Montezuma, Georgia, Carolyn Whicker, Montezuma, Georgia, Evelyn Whicker, Montezuma, Georgia, Nathaniel Whicker, Montezuma, Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews; his extended family include the Macon County Low Riders Club- Charlie Griffin, Eddie Taylor, Nathaniel Rogers, Al Lucas, Jay Nelson, Willie J. Odom, Jr., Raymond Dugger, Walter C. Jones, James Jones, Andrew Griffin, Willie Joe Daniels, Larry Griffin and Henry Searcy; a host of beloved friends which include several devoted, Jay Sutton, Georgia, Sam Rollin, Tom Souter, Spec. Mr. Charlie Miller, affectionately known as Sugar Boy, was born May 2, 1952 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Sandy Miller, Sr. and Willie Drew Miller. He was a graduate of Macon County High School.

Annie Ragans Laster

Mrs. Annie L. "Ann" Ragans Laster, age 62, 108 Horton Drive, Americus, Georgia passed Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.

The funeral service will be at conducted 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 420 Jefferson Street, Americus, Georgia. Reverend H.C. Wilson, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Staley Memorial Cemetery, Corner of Mayo and Souther Field Road, Americus, Georgia.

Annie was born June 1, 1949 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Winnie Ragans. She was a 1968 graduate of A.S. Staley High School, and she continued her studies at South Georgia Technical College. She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, Usher Board, and Pastor's Aid Club. Her community endeavors and affiliations included the Habecca Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 70th, Stolen Girls Civil Rights Activist, and a former member of the Americus Civil Rights Movement (ACRM). Being a dedicated and concerned member of the community, she was hired by Middle Flint Behavior Health Center, as a supervisor at the Southern Star Community Service Center. After over twenty years of service, she retired December 31, 2010.

Annie was preceded in death by her mother, Winnie Ragans; her brother, Lewis Ragans; her grandmother, Lucy Prince; her godparents, Ralph and Estella Williams; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, C.L. Styles and Willie Mae Thomas; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy James Stevens and Jeanester Thomas.

Ann's beauty and character captured the heart of her one and only love, Willie "Skeeter" Laster. In 1970, they were united in holy matrimony and were blessed with one son, Gabriel.

She leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to her beloved husband of forty-one years, Willie "Skeeter" Laster, Americus, Georgia; her son and daughter-in-law, Gabriel D. (Chinquita) Laster, Americus, Georgia; grandson, Dezmond K. Laster, Americus, Georgia; four siblings, Laura Virginia Davis-French, Sammie Walker, Sandra Walker Rudolph, all of Americus, Georgia, and Cynthia (Jeffery) Dillard, Atlanta, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Belinda Thomas, Americus, Georgia, Betty Wallace (Charlie), Macon, Georgia, Lee Edward Thomas (Barbara), Americus, Georgia, and Alvin Floyd (Sharon), Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
