The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the New Mount Zion Community Church, Hawkinsville, Georgia. Rev. Arthur Jordan, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.
Mr. Pitts was born August 25, 1919 in Houston County, Georgia to the late Johnnie Pitts and Betty Mae Colson Pitts. He was educated in the public school system of Houston County. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Johnnie B. Pitts, Corine Little, Elnora Wilcox and David Pitts. He was married to the former Alberta Moore Pitts and to this union one daughter was born.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army. His enlistment date was 1941 and he was honorably discharged on November 4 1945. He was a recipient of the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one bronze star. He served with Battalion 3382nd Quartermaster Tr. Company.
After eighteen years of dedicated service, he retired from Robins Air Force Base in 1986 as an aircraft mechanic. He received his Christian training in the local churches of Houston and Pulaski Counties.
Survivors are one daughter, Shirley Leggett (Roland), Kathleen, Georgia; two grandchildren Elethia Tillman (Anthony) Atlanta, Georgia, Joe Woolfolk, Decatur, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Michael Tillman, Atlanta, Georgia and Donovan Woolfolk, Decatur, Georgia; one aunt, Daisy Hunter, Macon, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including two devoted friends, Lindsay Scott and Sam.
