Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Mt. Able Baptist Church, 2518 New York Road, Desoto, Georgia. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church, Chokee Road,  DeSoto, Georgia. 

​Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. Dannie Jean Dennis Coates, age 80, passed on March 21, 2024.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 1, 2024, at Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery, James Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

Dannie Jean Dennis Coates, the daughter of Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Mary Frances Dennis, was born on January 14th, 1944, in Montezuma, Georgia. At an early age, Dannie joined and was baptized at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Her parents instilled and exposed her to a Christian way of life. When Dannie came back to Montezuma, Georgia, she always attended Zion Hill Baptist Church. Danie attended the Historic Flint Farm School and graduated from the Historic D. F. Douglass High School.
 
Following high school, Dannie moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she attended Atlanta Business Tech and Atlanta Area Tech.
 
Dannie worked various jobs including Scientific Atlanta, Lithonia Lighting, Northern Telecom, Control Data with BTG, Dekalb County School System as a Nutritionist Assistant, and Emory University as a Food and Nutrition Tech. Dannie was known for her great personality, her love for planting flowers, cooking, and tending to her veggie garden.
 
Dannie was preceded in death by her mother, father, granddaughter Trinity, husband Willie “Bud” Coates, and siblings, Charles and Willie Dennis, Jane Holmes, and Mary Neil Dennis. On March 21, 2024, Dannie entered eternal rest.
 
She leaves to cherish her memories to her dedicated children, Lillian Coates (Erik), Conyers, Georgia and Jason Shuman (Kirsten), McDonough, Georgia; five grandchildren, Shuntay Coates, Jennifer Coates (Natasha), Taylor Coates, King Shuman, and Jayah Shuman; great grandchildren, Saniah Coates, Tony Coates, Markus Coates, Jacob Cotton, Ayuni Coates, and Brooklin Wright; two brothers, James Dennis (Alice), Montezuma, Georgia and Kelvin Dennis (Pam), Decatur, Georgia; seven sisters, Betty Jean Dennis Rumph (Mike), Perry, Georgia, Hattie Cross, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mary Frances Dennis, Decatur, Georgia, Annie Dennis Smalls (James), Decatur, Georgia, D. Elaine London, Locust Grove, Georgia, Jeannette Dennis Harris (Anthony), Ellenwood, Georgia; close cousin, Bobbie Jean Howard, Fort Mills, North Carolina; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; a very special friend, Velma Jean Evans, Deluth, Georgia; a close friend, Amber; very close friend, George Shuman, who preceded her in death; her caretakers, Chris Howell and Chesley Gulder; and Bridgeway nurses, Rosline and Ruhtee.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Brown Chapel Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 224, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church's cemetery.

Mary Louise Davis Darity was born on April 29, 1943, in Montezuma, Georgia to the late Ammie Lee Brown Davis and the late Walter Davis. She was preceded in death by siblings Cora Manghram, Annie Kate Burnette, Katie Williams, Dan Davis, James Davis, John W. Davis, Gloria Jean Allen, Mary Lois Davis, Eunice Freeman, Eula Wilborn Lyons, Willie B. Davis, Nellie Mae Harris, Bessie Jones, and one daughter Barbara Ann Green. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County and attended the historic Flint River Farm School. At early age she joined Brown Chapel Baptist Church she later moved her membership to Pentecostal and joined The Holy House of God. Mary was employed over the years as a line operator at Southern Frozen Food. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Eddie Darity. Mary loved fishing and was a caregiver to many in the community.

She leaves to cherish her memories to nine children: Ethel Lawerence, Marietta, GA, Tony Davis, Emmett Davis, both of Montezuma, GA, Harvey L. Mallard Jr. Warner Robins, GA, Wendy M. Hannor, Simeal Bell, Sheila Perkins (Richard), all of Montezuma, GA, she raised her great niece, Anterica Davis, and great nephew, Adam Davis as her own children, both of Columbus, GA; 26 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; three siblings: Walter B. Davis, Montezuma, GA, Dora Kate McCants, and Willie Clarence Davis, St. Petersburg, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a devoted friend, Diane Bailey.

Mary Etta Drumwright Powell was born February 14, 1937, in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Buster Drumwright and the late Elizabeth Sutton McClendon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Zion Grove Baptist Church, Whitehouse Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at Champ Waters Cemetery, Montezuma, Georgia.

Annie Neal Suggs, 89, passed away on March 19, 2024, at Atrium Navient Health in Macon, Georgia. 

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. at Faith Memorial C.M.E. Church in Ideal, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Georgia Highway 26, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Mrs. Suggs was born on February 10, 1935, in Macon County, Georgia to the late Mr. Malachi and Mrs. Lula Tookes Jones. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County.  She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 20 years at Ideal Nursing Home.  Mrs. Suggs had a love for helping others, plants, and hymns. 

On May 1, 1954, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Willie Suggs Jr. and to this union they were blessed with one daughter, Annie Suggs Leary, who they called “Jodie.” 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Frank Jones, and sister-in-law, Christine Jones.


Those who are left to cherish her memories are daughter, Annie Suggs Leary (Eddie), Macon, Georgia; one granddaughter, Anesha, Centerville, Georgia; and three great grandchildren, Anilah, NaJuan, and Jeremiah; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Tristen was born on April 4, 2012, in Americus, Georgia to the late Fatema Dowdell Holmes and the late Antonio Holmes Sr. He was 6th grader student at the Sumter County Intermediate School of Americus, Georgia. He enjoyed singing,  smiling, and clapping. 
 
He is survived by a devoted stepfather, Emmitt Worthy Jr.; siblings, Antonio Holmes Jr., Lashay Dowdell, Tyeesha Woods (Adrian); nieces, Aryn Holmes, Kelli Banks, Katelyn Banks, Karsyn Banks; nephews, Antonio Homes III, De’Aron Dowdell, Dylan Woods;  a host of uncles, aunties, and cousins.
