Esix Snead, Sr.

Mr. Esix Snead, Sr., age 58, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed Monday, March 28, 2014.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1298 Chokee Road, Desoto, Lee County, Georgia, where Reverend Lorenzo Mullins is pastor.  Bishop Melvin McCluster, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Esix Snead, Sr. was born in Lee County, Georgia on August 21, 1955 to the parentage of the late Mr. Roosevelt Snead and Mrs. Viola Reddick Snead.  He received his Christian training in the local churches.  He was educated in the public school system of Lee County, Georgia.  He worked as a drywall finisher for a number of years.

He now joins those loved ones who preceded him in death, including his parents, Mr. Roosevelt Snead and Mrs. Viola Reddick Snead; three brothers, James Reddick, Joseph Snead, Sr., and Jimmy Taylor, and his sister, Emma Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memories his five daughters, Lashawn Whickum, Rosa Sneed, Alberta Snead, Latiffany (Reggie) Snead-Jackson, Vanessa Snead, and a special stepdaughter, Dorothea Snead; two sons, Esix Snead and Chad Snead; 20 grandchildren with a grandson on the way; six great grandchildren; ten siblings, Rose Snead, Fort Myers, Florida, Alberta Wise, Bronx, New York, Nona White, Bronx, New York, Gracie (Ernest), Buena Vista, Georgia, Virginia Snead, New York City, New York, David Snead, Hartford, Connecticut, Jimmie Snead, Dayton, Ohio, Greg Taylor, Fort Myers, Florida, Dennis Hooks, Georgia, and Dorothy Davis, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mayola Ivory Taylor, age 80, passed Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Columbus Midtown Medical Center, 710 Center Street, Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 30,2014 at the Josh Gibson Center, 20 Gibson Way, Buena Vista, Georgia. Interment will follow at the Liberty Cemetery, Pineville Road, Buena Vista, Georgia. Pastor Anginette Coppins Damiani of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, Buena Vista, Georgia will officiate.

Mayola Ivory Taylor was born September 29, 1933 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the late George “Son” Ivory and Mamie Walker Ivory. She was educated in the public school system of Marion County, Buena Vista, Georgia. Mayola was joined in Holy matrimony to Johnnie Lee Taylor, and in this union, they raised ten children. She is preceded in death by one son, Johnnie Lee Taylor, Jr., and seven siblings, Gertrude, Lizzie, Ruby, George, Lester, Will and Eugene.

Mayola was a member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. in Buena Vista, Georgia. While active in the church, Mayola served on the Usher Board Ministry as a Stewardess, Lay Organization Member, and Missionary. After many dedicated years of services as a Cook, she retired from the Marion Memorial Hospital Dietary Department. However, her love for blessing others with her cooking continued.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband, Johnnie Lee Taylor, Sr.; devoted children, Mary Alice King, Buena Vista, Georgia, Bernice Harris (Andrew), Louvale, Georgia, Robert Taylor (Lynn), Arlington, Virginia, Georgia Taylor, Buena Vista, Georgia, Geraldine Thomas, Buena Vista, Georgia, James Taylor (Sylvia), Buena Vista, Georgia, Gwendolyn King (Johnny), Kathleen, Georgia, Freddie Taylor, Warner Robins, Georgia, and Millicent Perry (Darryl), Columbus, Georgia; siblings, Major Ivory (Rebecca), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Oseola Ivory, Buena Vista, Georgia, Jeanie Kendrick, Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Sidney Ivory (Geraldine), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and extended family.

Ethel Mae Smith Battle, age 60, 224 May Road, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Friday morning, March 21, 2014 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Upper Room Holiness Church, Georgia Highway 90 North, Oglethorpe, Georgia.  Pastor Pearl Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Mrs. Battle was born June 25, 1953 to the late Alphonso Lyles and Everlena Smith Lyles in Smithville, Lee County, Georgia.   She acquired her education in the public school system of Lee County.  She was married to John Lee Battle, and to this union they were blessed with eight children.  Six babies preceded her in death. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers at God In Christ Worship Center under the leadership of pastor Willie Smith.   Later she attended Evangelical Faith Vision Ministries, Inc. Albany, Georgia under the leadership of the late Bishop Isaiah Revills.  She began to attend Church of God By Faith under the leadership of the late Elder Elmore Thomas, where her faith was renewed and she joined the band of Christians at Church of God By Faith.   Later in life, she attended Upper Room Holiness Church of Oglethorpe, Georgia, under Pastor Pearl Williams.

Survivors are her husband, John Lee Battle, Oglethorpe, Georgia; two children, Rosa Goggins (Matthew), Montezuma, Georgia and Johnnie Battle (Cheryl), Americus, Georgia; siblings, Charlie (Daisy) Smith, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Annie Ruth (Harold, Sr.) Battle, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Rosa (Sammie) Harris, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Ernest (Ann) Smith, Americus, Georgia, Minister Willie (Blondell) Smith, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Dennis (Delphanie) Smith, Oglethorpe, Georgia and Edward (Mary Ann) Smith, Montezuma, Georgia;  Grandchildren, LaKeisha Ford, Montezuma, Georgia, Laquasha Battle, Montezuma, Georiga, Erica Ford, Montezuma, Georgia, Contrabious Battle, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Keylexius Battle, Oglethorpe, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eva Mae Johnson, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Junior (Mary) Battle, Oglethorpe, Georgia and Homer Lee Battle, Oglethorpe, Georgia; one aunt, Lorene Twenty, Americus, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Larry Sylvester Dean, age 64, of Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Columbus Specialty Hospital, Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.  Interment will follow in Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.  Reverend Coley Clark, Jr., pastor of Zion Grove Baptist Church, will officiate.

Larry Sylvester Dean was born December 9, 1949 to the late Charlie Anderson Dean and Imogene Callier Dean in Macon County, Georgia.  He received his Christian training in the local churches.  Larry was a 1968 graduate of D. F. Douglass High School.  Larry was a well-known person throughout the Macon County Community.  He was employed with the City of Americus Sanitation Department for ten dedicated years.  After seventeen dedicated years of service, he retired from the City of Oglethorpe Sanitation Department in 2006.

Larry was married to the former Gloria Pryor.  To this union, they were blessed with three daughters.  He leaves to cherish his memory, three loving and devoted daughters, Sharonda N. Dean, Sierra N. Dean and Shantoria N. Dean, all of Oglethorpe, Georgia; a loving grandson, Antwone Fulks, Oglethorpe, Georgia; three siblings, Juanita D. White, East Point, Michigan, Diane D. Webb, Columbus, Georgia and Rodney Curry, Montezuma, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Keisha Hollinger, Keith Smith, Maurice Webb, all of Columbus, Georgia, and Melondie White, East Point, Michigan; great nephews and great niece, Kel, Niah, Jaden, and Tyler, all of Columbus, Georgia; uncles and aunts, Ulysses Dean (Brenda), Andersonville, Georgia, Velma Harris, Americus, Georgia, Helen Schofield, Jacksonville, Florida, Eddie James Dean (Betty), Jacksonville, Florida, Grace Taylor, Capitol Heights, Maryland, Beatrice Dent, Washington, DC and Willie Callier (Lois), Ideal, Georgia; a host of other relatives, including a devoted cousin, Curtis Callier, Ideal, Georgia; two devoted future sons-in-law, Brandon Curt Evans, Americus, Georgia and Carlston  Bronson, Macon, Georgia; and a host of friends.

Deacon Willie Frank Harris, age 73, 312 Hwy 128, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed Friday, March 7, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Whitewater Road, Ideal, Georgia. Reverend David Thomas, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Deacon Willie Frank Harris, better known as “Bo,” was born February 15, 1941 to the parents of the late Willie Davis Harris and Leona Williams Harris. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County where as he was a 1960 graduate of D. F. Douglass High School. He worked with various companies including Southern Frozen Foods Inc. of Montezuma, Georgia. After 29 years of dedicated services he retired from Blue Bird Body Company of Fort Valley, Georgia. September 1, 2003. He was a member of the Oglethorpe Masonic Lodge 291 A & FM. He was past Worshipful Master.

He was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church where he served as past Chairman of the Deacon Board Ministry, Church Treasurer and past Secretary.

He was married to Laura Ann Sanders and to this union they were blessed with three children and one son preceded him in death, Bryant O’Neal Harris. He also was preceded in death by two siblings, Bennie Rose Turner and Earlean Stewart.

Survivors are his beloved wife, Laura Harris, Oglethorpe, Georgia; his three children, Tony Kaigler (Lee), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Felisha Eskridge (Rev. Cosby), San Angelo, Texas, and Steven A. Harris, Sr., (Deborah), Oglethorpe, Georgia; his siblings, Mary McMillan, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Earl Gene Harris (Jacqueline), Augusta, Georgia; sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law, Elder Beatrice Gaines, Norvis Sanders, both of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Marie Spikes, Montezuma, Georgia, Agnes Wright (Larry), Arch Hill, Maryland, and Fred Turner, Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Candace, Deborah Ann, Charidee, Steven A. Albert, as he was affectionately called by family, friends, and loved ones, was born November 30, 1950 to the late Willie B. Walker, Sr. and Doshie Davis Walker. He acquired his education from D.F. Douglass High School, Montezuma, Georgia. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He furthered his education at Job Corps of Chicago, Illinois. He was employed with various companies, including Gold Kist Peanut Mill of Oglethorpe, Georgia and Hobbs Septic Tank Service.

Survivors are one daughter, Shawanda Walker  (Aaron McGhee), Montezuma, Georgia; granddaughter, Destiny Walker, Montezuma, Georgia; siblings, Willie B. Walker, Jr., Ceneva Walker Hayes, Eva Walker Hayes (Monroe), and Harvey Robert Walker, Sr. (Arlene), all of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Glennice Walker Dugger (Raymon) Bonaire, Georgia, and Roy Neal Walker, Sr. (Debbie), Oglethorpe, Georgia; brother-in-law, Joe Wright, Bronx, New York; uncles and aunts, N.C.
