Shirley Morgan, age 59, passed on September 27, 2022. 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Shirley Annette Morgan was born June 22, 1963 in Cleveland, OH. She leaves to cherish her memories to her siblings, children, and friends. Youngest of 7 siblings born to Dorothy Mae Hewitt-Gibbson and late Sammie Gibbson. Her Siblings, Donna, Christine, Nadine, Curtis, and Dennis. Her children Dwayne Morgan, Charde Morgan, Dominic Morgan, daughter in law Dominica Arnett- Morgan, and friends. 

Attended a Catholic high school and graduated with honors in 1981. Her first job was at a grocery store named Pick and Pay. She moved to Ellaville, GA in search of a fresh, brand-new start. The last job she worked was at Habitat in Americus, GA. Shirley loved to dance, listen to music, bring people together and always kept a smile on her face. Anybody who knew her knew that she loved to talk on the phone with her loved ones on the daily basis and if not on the daily basis every other day. She always taught us to say later instead of good-bye when getting off the phone. She always spoke positive words; she truly had a heart of gold. 

A host of grandchildren Trenyce Brooke Morgan, Kyla Tyjae Morgan, Koria Simmons, Correy Simmons bka Mann.

She loved her good sisters; Pam, Trina, and Sylvia. The memories she leaves behind will forever be in our hearts.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Friendship Baptist Church, Cotton Street, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, Georgia.

Thomas was born March 1, 1971, to the late Elsie Denmark and Lee Morris Carter. He was preceded in death by one sister Wanda K. Denmark.  He was blessed with bonus parents who helped in his rearing Willie Thomas and the late Shirley Thomas. He was a 1989 graduate of Sumter County Comprehensive High School, Americus, Georgia. He was joined in holy matrimony to Terrel Raines.  Over the years he was employed with Blue Bird,  Farmers Furniture and formerly Timac.

He leaves to cherish his memories to a loving companion, Terrel Denmark; four  devoted daughters Sakeida Mercer, Breanca Denmark, Shaquanna Denmark, and Diamond Denmark; 10  precious grandchildren Ny’ Laijah Wimberly, Noah Hosley, Emilyah Harper, Dakota Denmark, Paris Brown, E’lijah Cooke, Essence Denmark, Ki’hari Sims, Ernysia Durham, Aubri Mccoy; father Lee Morris Carter; siblings Jada Carson (Freddie) Amerson, Tassia Sharnee Carter-Crouch (Jason), Charmelle Jana Carter, Angela Hicks, Carlos Carter, Carl Lee Carter; Aunts Dora Jean Denmark, Mary Joe Denmark; devoted cousins Dennis Carter, Shannon Carter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including devoted friends Chris Jones, Gregg Jones, John Smith, Jonathan Thomas, Pamela Harris, and Pastor John Zanders. ​

Ramona was born December 16, 1964, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Evy Bratcher Jr. and the late Beatrice Jones Bratcher. She attended and graduated from Westwood High School and job corps acquiring her certificate in Nursing Assistant. Ramona was also a 2010 Culinary Arts graduate of South Georgia Technical College. She was united in holy matrimony in 2004 to Johnny Hamilton. She was a member of New  Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Tennessee. After moving to Georgia she later became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ellaville, Georgia.

Helen Terry Minter, age 90, of Buena Vista, Georgia passed Monday morning, September 19, 2022, in the Piedmont Northside Hospital, Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, September 25, 2022, at the Halls Chapel C.M.E. Church, 6th Avenue, Buena Vista, Georgia. The Reverend Zechariah Terry, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Our Resting Place (formerly Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church Cemetery), Ga Hwy 137,  Buena Vista, Georgia.

Helen Terry Minter was born July 2, 1932, to the late Archie Terry and Alice Thomas Terry in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Doris Johnson, Ulysses Terry, James Terry and Ellen Minter.

She was educated in the public school system of Marion County.  At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined the band of Christian believers at the Hall Chapel C.M.E. Church.  She supported every facet of the church she loved so well.  She exemplified her worth on the Stewardess Board and the Usher Board Ministry.

For some thirty-five years or more she was employed with Georgia Power.  She served in almost every position whereas she retired as an inventory specialist.

Mother Helen was united in holy matrimony to Ceasor Minter, Sr. and to this union they were blessed with seven children; three preceded her in death, William Minter, Sr., Thomas Minter and Cecil Minter, Jr.

On Monday, in the surroundings of her beloved children, she departed this earthly for a crown of life at the Piedmont Hospital, Columbus, Georgia. Survivors are four children: Mary Alice Brown, (Frederick Griffin),  Helen Gail Harris (Frederick Blackshear) both of Smith Station, Alabama, Jacqueline Jordan (Jimmy), Woodbridge, Virginia and Tyrone Minter (Tonya) Ellenwood, Georgia; three siblings, Bobbie Woods (Willie) Columbus, Georgia, Reverend Tommy Terry and Vernesteen Jordan, both of Buena Vista, Georgia; a loving companion, Milton Mitchell; eighteen grandchildren and a host of loving great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 26, 2022, at First United Holiness Church, 325 Engram Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Mother Harris was born November 22, 1933, in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia to the late Sylvester Hillmon Sr. and Ruby Hill Hillmon.  She was preceded in death by six siblings: Mattie Lou Hillmon Wiggins, Napoleon Hillmon, Minnie Jewel Hillmon, Sylvester Hill Jr., Hattie Bell Hillmon, Linda Clayton. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Cleveland Harris Sr.   Mother Harris was also preceded in death by four children Francis Harris, Charlie Louis Harris Bertha Spencer, and Cleveland Harris, Jr. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Jehovah Baptist Church and later First United Holiness Church and the United Holiness Headquarter.

Left with a legacy of love and many fond memories are three daughters, Mattie Taylor (Eddie), Atlanta, Ga, Cleola Fudge, Albany, Ga, Lawestine Harris, Atlanta, Ga; five grandchildren Cornelius Spencer, Robin Spencer, Austin Tobias, Ashton Tobias; 3 great grandchildren Raegan Spencer, Jasmine Spencer, Cameron Spencer; one sister, Bessie C. Tookes (John), Montezuma, Georgia; a loving son-in-law, Superintendent Robert Spencer; special family friend, Willie C. Edwards; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and beloved church family of the United Holiness Churches.

Joyce Carson was born February 9, 1949, to Christine Green and Henry Wilder At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Felton Chapel C.M.E. which later became Felton Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a usher for many years. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County and attended the D.F. Douglass High School. She was employed at the Headstart Program of Montezuma, a division of Fort Valley State Headstart Program.

Joyce was married to the late Henry Clay Carson and to this union six children were born. She was preceded in death by three son Michael Carson, Clay Carson, and Richard Gene Carson.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her three children Reginald Carson, Warner Robins, Georgia, Marvin Carson, Atlanta, Georgia, and Brian Carson, of Warner Robins, Georgia; four grandchildren; siblings Mildred Wells (Robert) Oglethorpe, Georgia, Jeanette Fields, Perry, Georgia, Mary Francis Gilchrist (Eddie) Oglethorpe, Georgia, Ethel Mae Bailey, Atlanta, Georgia; sisters/brothers-in-law, Loretha Brady (Ronald), Clara Monford, all

Mrs. Bertha Fobbs was born on July 3, 1931, to the parentage of the late Homer and Mary Lee Quinn Ellis. Mrs. Fobbs was a member of the Zion Grove Baptist Church. She was a faithful member who was the mother of the church, sung in the choir, and served on both the missionary and usher boards. She received her education from Flint River Farms School. She was then employed at Southern Frozen Food, where she was a supervisor for over 40 plus years. 

She was preceded in death by a brother Walter Lee, a sister Sarah Kate Joiner and three children Eugene Fobbs, Henry Fobbs, and Mary Harris. She was joined in  holy matrimony to the late James Fobbs.

Mrs. Fobbs was a mother to many and was known for her world-famous collard greens. She leaves to cherish her loving eight children: Tara, Fellta,  both of Montezuma, Georgia, Randy (Dayna) Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Terry (Cynthia), Montezuma, Georgia, Donald, Macon, Georgia, Danny (Lynda), Riverdale, Georgia, Eddie, Macon, Georgia and Doris of Miami, Florida. She also leaves behind a host of loving grand and great, great great  grandchildren.  As well as a devoted niece, Elaine Joiner, and special family members and friend, Billy Quinn, and Betty McKenzie.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Good News Ministry, 201 N. May Street, Americus, Georgia. Dr. E. L. Wallace will officiate. Interment will follow in the Freeman Hill Cemetery, Andersonville Georgia.

Deacon Willie John Asberry was born to the parentage of the Late Willie Lewis and Rena Bell Asberry on March 14, 1963. He was educated in the Sumter County School System. He was affectionately called by Johnny. Johnny never met a stranger. His kind heart and loving ways immediately drew others into his life. Johnny was known throughout the community for being well-dressed. He loved to shop for suits and clothes that you didn’t see everybody else wearing. He liked being different and sharp.

Johnny joined United Holiness Church in the early 80’s under the leadership of Overseer Snipes. He later moved his membership to Good News Ministries where he faithfully served as a dedicated member and Deacon of Good News Ministries Inc. in Americus. He continued to served in the capacity of a Deacon faithfully until his health failed earlier this year.

​In 1992 he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Ms. Latrenda Mack who he married on March 10, 1992. They were married 30 years. To this union was born two children. J’Undra and Ja’Braa. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Latrenda Asberry, he leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, J’Undra (Joshua) Skinner of Wichita, Kansas, Ja’Braa Asberry of Americus. One son, Keevan Tyson of Germany; four loving grandchildren who were his joy: Adriene Skinner, Audrey Skinner, Damion Tyson and Ja’va Henry. Three Sisters, Gennie (John) McElveen, of Irvinton NJ, Dorothy (George) Wilcher, Mary Asberry of Americus, GA. One brother, Larry Gene Paul of Americus. Three Aunts, Minnie Battle, Belinda (Curtis) Brooks all of Americus, Betty (Robert) Washington of New York. One uncle, George (Bobbie) Paul of Americus GA. One devoted adopted Aunt, Ms. Jessie Pearl Battle-Williams of Americus. Devoted nephews include Darren Brown, Jaylan (Gloria) Asberry of Americus, GA. Damien Brown who he loved as his own son. a devoted niece, Felicia (Frank) Reese; His father and mother-law, Mr. Louis and Catherine Mack and Two brothers-in-law, Lewis (Tasha) Mack, Anthony McDonald all of Americus. Lucretia Felton Mason was born in Macon County, Georgia the twenty seventh day of January 1941 to Charlie “Spunk” Felton and Mae Lillie Howard Felton.  Born in a family of five siblings she was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings Iona Felton Lowe and Ophelia Felton Tookes.
 
Lucretia grew up in Montezuma and attended the Macon County Training School. Being reared in a Christian home, she learned early in life her path of duty.  She joined the Mount Pleasant Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (which later was joined by Travelers Rest CME Church).  She performed her Godly duty on the Usher Ministry Board and supported her church she loved so well.  After reaching the age of seventy-seven, Lucretia retired her Usher’s badge of duty August 19, 2018. Lucretia was a dedicated employee of McKenzie Southern Frozen Food, Inc. and after over fifty years of dedicated service she retired in 1994 as a line technician. Lucretia was married to the late Timothy Mason.  She was a member of the Historic Lady Boosters Club.
 
A special life departed this earthly life on Monday morning, September 12, 2022. With words unspoken and the last tender breath, she quietly slip away. “Servant of God well done, rest from thy love employ, the battle is fought, the victory is won, enter thy master’s joy.”  Her memories will forever linger in the hearts of her children, Errol Vann Felton and Walter “Woody” L. Felton both of Montezuma, Georgia; her seven grandchildren, Errol Van Felton, Jr., Renanda Felton Mann (Terrel) all of Montezuma, Georgia, Devueccio Hannor (Yanna) Lawrenceville, Georgia, Darrien Felton, Atlanta, Georgia, Maurice Hannor, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Loretta Jackson, Montezuma, Georgia, Trever Jackson, Warner Robins, Georgia; ten great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren; two siblings Charles Felton, Miami, Florida and Nettie Felton Ashmon, Montezuma, Georgia; dear friend, John Melvin and a god son, Edward Williams; and a host of beloved nieces including three who were like her daughters Juanita Vanessa Felton, Montezuma, Georgia, Johnetta Hawkins (Paul), Decatur, Georgia, Shaie Ashmon, Warner Robins, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ernest Harp Jr. was born September 26, 1943, to the late Ernest Harp Sr. and Della Mae Smith Harp. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County whereas he attended the historic Oglethorpe Grammar School. He was united in holy matrimony to Hazel Williams and to this union 7 children were born. Two daughters, Stephanie Harp Hillmon and Gwenda Harp Fredrick, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, KaToshara Hillmon, and two siblings, Bertha Williams and Willie James Harp.

He was employed with Reid Construction Company of Americus, Georgia and Mulcoa of Andersonville, Georgia where he retired after 30 or more years as a front end loader.  

He leaves to cherish his memories five children Cynthia Harp (Willie), Montezuma, Georgia, Ernest B. Harp of Andersonville, Georgia, Stanford Harp (Debra), Perry, Georgia, Charles Harp (Linda), Shelia Harp Allen (Reginald) all of Montezuma, Georgia; grandchildren, DeCarris Hillmon, Shavia Towns, Trinesia Harp,  Martellian Harp, Tarrance Holley, DeKameron Allen, Desi McKenzie, Sherrod Terry, and Sharvin Sims; siblings Ardean Harp Clark, Eddie Harp, Virginia Whitehead (Phil) all of Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Willie B.
