Mr. Robert B. Reid Jr., age 84, passed Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Houston Medical Center, Warner Robins, Georgia.

The f
uneral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Greater Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 1195 Hufflund Avenue, Warner Robins, Georgia. Reverend Daniel W. Jackson, Sr., pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held 10:00 a.m Monday, September 26, 2016 in the Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road. Andersonville, Georgia.

I, Robert B. Reid, Jr., was born July 11, 1932 to the parentage of the late Lucille and the late Robert Reid, Sr. of Tift County, the city of Tifton, Georgia.  I grew up in the home of my late grandmother, Charlotte Reid; along with my cousin, James Carter.  I would later join the military; served in the United States Army BRAC Division, from June 19, 1952 until honorably discharged on May 24, 1954.

Our grandmother introduced us to Christ at an early age by getting us involved in church.  I joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Tifton; and served as an usher and a choir member. In 1994, I was made a Deacon; and I also met and married on July 15th of that year Mollie Woolfork-Butler.  We both had been widowers.

I had worked for more than forty years with Shaw Industries, Incorporated in Tifton, Georgia.  I had held the position of Supervisor and received several awards.  The ones that I took most pride in were received in 1991 and 1992 for safety which named me to the “Top Performers Club” certification.  After I became ill; a stroke, we moved to Warner Robins, Georgia.  For many years, I was a member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge of Tifton, Georgia.

I started to have some complications, which affected me walking.  I checked in to the Peachbelt Healthcare facility where I would lead prayer services and talk with others about Christ.  I received in 2008 the Peachbelt Healthcare Devotional Leader award. One Sunday I felt a connection to a church group that visited Peachbelt.  I befriended one of its members and later learned that my stepson inlaw attended that same church.  Deacon Freddie Lewis would come sometimes to pick me up for church and so did William. I later joined Greater Springfield Missionary Baptist Church and even sang in the Male choir.  The other men of the Church would help me out of my chair into the Choir stand. Deacon Lewis would cut my hair and later he and his family adopted me as a family member.  Peachbelt Healthcare would close and I relocated to Warner Robins Rehabilitation.  I wasn’t up for the change, but later I adjusted and even started to walk a little with my cane in late August, 2016.

I got sickness in my body in September; and on the 18th was taken to the Houston Medical Center.  I was placed in ICU in the early morning of the 19th; and that evening, God called me home to rest from this world.

Left to tell my life story:  my wife of twenty-two years, Mollie Mae Reid; step children:  Jeannetta Bailey (William) Kathleen, Georgia; Eva Walton (David) Woodbridge, Virginia; Alfonzo Butler (Deborah) Evans, Georgia; Edward Butler, Atlanta, Georgia. My siblings: William Reid (JoAnne), and Larry Reid (Carolyn) all of Atlanta, Georgia, Gaylord Reid (Robyn),  Brother and sister in laws: Jewel Lee Woolfork, Immokalee, Florida; Roosevelt Woolfork (Yvonne) Orlando, Florida; Earl Woolfork, Sr (Mattie Mae) Montezuma, Georgia; Marie Woolfork, Inez Woolfork, JoAnne Woolfork, all of Montezuma, Georgia; Eddie Woolfork, Sr (Michelle) Canton, Michigan; and Geneva Carter (Elder James) Ocilla, Georgia. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. My godson, Dea Freddie Lewis (Gloria) Warner Robins, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
