Betty Louise Richardson Miles

Mrs. Betty Louise Richardson Miles, age 83, 931 Oglethorpe Avenue, Americus, Georgia passed on June 28, 2018.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Eastview Church of Christ, 701 Eastview Drive, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens, Corner of Mayo and Southerfield Roads, Americus, Georgia.

Betty was born on August 7, 1934 to the late Willie Mae Lloyd and John Richardson in Montezuma, Georgia. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Christine Solomon, Rosa Journey, Bessie Tabor, Sallie Mae Richardson, and Eugene Richardson. She was educated within the Macon County Public School System. She was employed with Cooper Lighting for 17 years as a line technician and retired in 1996.

At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was a member of Eastview Church of Christ in Americus, Georgia. Betty was joined in Holy matrimony to James Miles Sr. on January 18, 1995.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a husband, James Miles, Sr., Americus, Georgia; a devoted daughter, Christine McClain, Americus, Georgia; a sister, Gladys Woolfork, Montezuma, Georgia; three grandsons, Carl Threatt (Teresa), Albany, Georgia, Christopher Threatt (Dionne), Little Rock, Arkansas, and Craig Threatt, Americus, Georgia; eight great grandchildren, Jasmine Threatt, Shanice Threatt, Brittney Threatt, Broderick Ray, Tanisha Threatt, Briana Threatt, Kentavous Threatt, Cheslney Monson; three great great grandchildren Carmelo, Josiah, and Jacoby; five stepchildren Jeannette Lamar, Milton Miles, James Miles Jr. (Norwanna), T. J. Miles and Gloria Lyles; a host of step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Church family.

Celebration of Life services for Miss Kristie Marie Worthy will be held on Thursday June 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Magnolia Baptist Church, 415 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia 31063.

Committal Services will be held at the Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery, located at 2787 James Road, Montezuma Georgia 31063.

Visitation for Miss Worthy be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Meadows Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe Georgia 31068.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zion Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 686, Montezuma, Georgia 31063 (all donations are tax deductible).

​Mr. Marcel Vanshun Hooks, age 40, passed on Thursday, June 21, 2018.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 29, 2018 at the New Hope Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 26, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

Mr. Marcel Vanshun Hooks was born on May 23, 1978 in Sumter County, Georgia to the parentage of Mr. Earl J. Hooks and Mrs. Doris Hooks Rumph. His grandparents Mr. Earl and Dorothy Hooks and Mr. Clifford and Emma Clyde Jones and one brother, Mr. Jermiere Hooks, preceded him in death. He received his education from Macon County School Systems. He pursued his education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and later transferred to Darton State College, where he played baseball for both.

Marcel was loved by his family and friends. He had a smile that would light up the room. He enjoyed racing and often called himself the CEO of his father and uncle racing franchise, Hooks Boyz Racing and a dedicated and devoted member of the Hot Boyz Racing Family.

He was currently employed by Easterlin Pecan Company in Montezuma, Georgia. He was previously employed at Blue Bird as a line technician. He often talked too much but ensured his job was done.

An everlasting legacy is left to his daughters, Mozzie Ellis, Warner Robins, Georgia and Aysharia Banks, Americus, Georgia; a son he reared as his own, Jamal Smith, Warner Robins, Georgia; his parents, Mr. Earl Jonas Hooks (LaTonia) Marshallville, Georgia and Doris Hooks Rumph (Henry) Garden Valley, Georgia; three sisters, Shernika Hooks-Hicks (Morris) Byron, Georgia, LaShondra Hooks, Warner Robins, Georgia, and Greenena Greene, Montezuma, Georgia; one brother, Anthony Earl Hooks, Marshallville, Georgia; a devoted cousin, Alicia (Torrence) Warren, Byron, Georgia; a special niece, Daija Worley, Byron, Georgia; a young but devoted cousin, Jaevyn Hinton Jones; uncles, Kelly Hooks, Hartford, Connecticut, Karl (Tammy) Hooks, Montezuma, Georgia, Johnny C. Bobby E. Douglas, age 66, 1985 White Hall Forrest Court, Atlanta, Georgia passed on Monday, June 18, 2018 at home.
 
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Nazarene Church of God in Christ, Pineville Road, Buena Vista, Georgia. Burial will follow Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Oliver Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.  
         
Bobby Eugene Douglas was born August 11, 1951 to the parentage of the late AC Douglas and Mary Louise Burton.  He departed his earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior on June 18, 2018.
 
Bobby received his education in the Buena Vista, Georgia school system and is a graduate of the Class of 1970.  He gave his life to the Lord at Mt. Zion Baptist in 1968.  He served his country in the United States Army from 1976 to 1989.  He was later employed as a Trainer for United Health Care Services from 1989 until his death.
 
Bobby leaves as his legacy: four children, Sidney Douglas, Atlanta, Georgia; Kevin (Markita) Douglas, Buena Vista, Georgia; Mashanna Douglas and Marcello Douglas of Kingston, New York. He leaves to mourn his death, five brothers and three sisters, Albert Douglas Jr., Fairburn, Georgia, Bobby (Carolyn) Wright, Fortson, Georgia, Clinton (Sharon) Douglas III, Buchanan, Michigan, Ervin Douglas, Columbus, Georgia, Curtis Burton, Chicago, Illinois, Shari Wallis, Paducah, Kentucky, Cynthia Burton, Columbus, Georgia and Seri (Russ) Murdock, East Orange, New Jersey and was preceded in death by one brother, James Howard Douglas, and one grandchild, Kyndall Elise Douglas. He also leaves to mourn his death: twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two aunt and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Addie Whitaker Martin, age 82, 232 South Langston Rd., Perry, Georgia passed Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Roberta Rehabilitation Center, Roberta, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday June 23, 2018 at the New Hope Baptist Church, GA Hwy 26 East, Montezuma, Georgia, where Rev. Allan Waters is pastor. The Rev. Alfred Biggs, pastor of Harrison Chapel Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Harrison Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
 
Mrs. Addie was born to the late George Whitaker and the late Arrie Bell Harris Whitaker December 15, 1935 in Macon County, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by seven siblings, A. C. Whitaker, L.T. Whitaker, Eddie Whitaker,  Willie Harris, George Whitaker, Pearlie Mae Williams and Olivia Granville. Addie was united in holy matrimony to her one and only love Melvin Martin, Sr., and to this union they were blessed with nine children. Two preceded her in death: Milton Martin and Marion Martin.
 
She was educated in the public school system of Macon County.  At an early age she joined the Brown Chapel Baptist Church   After uniting in Holy Matrimony with her husband, she joined the Harrison Chapel Baptist Church where as she exemplified her worth as a member of the Harrison Chapel Senior Choir and a dynamic cook on the Kitchen Committee Ministry.  Her fried chicken was the best in the land along with her chicken pot pie.  After many years of dedicated services she retired from the Macon County Board of Education as a cook from the Macon County Elementary School.
 
Survivors are her beloved children, Edith Brown, Montezuma, Georgia, Melvin Martin, Jr. (Ernestine), Americus, Georgia, Felicia Martin, Bonaire, Georgia, Malinda Johnson, Rhonda Hite, both of Montezuma, Georgia, Peggie Davis (Wayne), Perry, Georgia and Cynthia Martin, Montezuma, Georgia; eighteen grandchildren including one grandson she reared, Timmy Warren and one devoted granddaughter, Jasmine Davis and fifteen great grandchildren;  a loving sister, Mollie Irene Felder, Perry, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law include Nissie Felton, Annette Smith and Rudine Martin, all of Montezuma, Georgia, Jerry Granville, Warner Robins, Georgia, Mary Hill, and Roberta Stockner (James) all of Naples, Florida and Alice Carswell (Charles) of Tampa, Florida, Ruth Martin, Columbus, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews including a devoted niece Gloria Childs, Warner Robins, Georgia, other relatives and friends.
 
The family will receive family and friends and the home of Peggie Davis, 232 South Langston Road, Perry, Georgia.

Bessie Kate Standifer, better known as Good Do, age 88, 618 Lancing Lane, Montezuma, Georgia passed June 8, 2018 at the Pine Hill Nursing Home, Byronville, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the First Salem Baptist Church, Twin Churches Road, Montezuma, Georgia where Rev. Jeffery Randall is pastor.  Interment will follow in the Champ Waters Cemetery.
 
Bessie Kate was born August 30, 1929 in Dooly County, Georgia to the late Willie Standifer and Iona Standifer. She was educated in the local school system of Dooly  and Macon County.  She was preceded in death by two siblings, Lessie M. Clark and Willie M. Davis; two children, Elane C. Felton and Alvin Standifer; two granddaughters, Yolande Smith and Shawna Haugabook; and one grandson, Rodney Kendrick.
 
She joined the First Salem Baptist Church at an early age, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board Ministry and  Missionary Society.
 
After many years of dedicated services she retired from Gold King a Division of Southern Frozen Food, Inc.
 
Survivors are three children, Linda Simpson (Miles), Montezuma, Georgia, Beverly Bass (Elijah), Austell, Georgia and Ronnie Standifer, Montezuma, Georgia; five grandchildren, Keith Bass (Shonta), Valarie Kendrick (Charles). Kim Bass, Brian Bass (Shaunquetta) and J. Tookes; thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends including a devoted neighbors, Connie Walker and Gilbert Ball.

Essielene Williams, age 67, 603 Robert E. Lee Street, Andersonville, Georgia passed Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Wilson Hospice House, Albany, Georgia.

A wake service will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, June 15, 2018, Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church,
Church Street, Andersonville, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Freeman Hill Cemetery, Freeman Hill Road, Andersonville, Georgia.

Essielene was born October 26, 1950 to the late Richard Williams and the late Ozzie Lee McWhorter Williams in Andersonville, Georgia. She was a 1970 graduate of the historic D. F. Douglass High School, Montezuma, Georgia. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board Ministry and as a member of the Ebenezer Church Choir.

Survivors are a loving son and daughter-in-law, Travis Williams (Gwendolyn), Sumter City, Georgia; a beloved granddaughter, Olivia Williams, Sumter City, Georgia; two siblings, Ethelene Williams Ross (Ronald), Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sylvester Williams (Jean) Summer Set, New Jersey; a host of other siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including her best friends, Pauline Walker, Americus, Georgia, Betty Joe Fulkes, Rosemarry Fulks, and Annette Jackson.

Jannie Griffin Hamilton passed on May 31, 2018 at the Miona Geriatric and Dementia Center.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Travelers Home Baptist Church, 903 Travelers Home Church Road, Ideal, Georgia. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery.

Jannie was born March 13, 1953 in Macon County to the late Willie Ervin Griffin and Marie Sturnes.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Hamilton, and siblings, Alma Griffin Golphin, Estee Griffin, and Sammie Griffin.  She was educated in the public school system of Macon County and attended D.F. Douglass High School before going to Job Corps in Portland, Oregon.  Jannie's Christian training came from the Rocky Mount C.M.E. Church in Garden Valley.  She was employed with Southern Frozen Food as a line technician and Manhattan Shirt Factory as a Seamstress.  She was joined in Holy matrimony to Nathaniel Hamilton, Sr. in 1973.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Nathaniel Hamilton, Sr.; children, Margaret Brooks (Donnie), Ellaville, Georgia, Willie Hamilton (Daphne), Bonaire, Georgia, Nathaniel Hamilton Jr., (Mattie), and Johnny Hamilton (Ramona), all of Ellaville, Georgia, Daphne Pina, Americus, Georgia, Shannon Hamilton, Ellaville, Georgia, Tyrone  (Lakisha), Hamilton, Marietta, 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Fannie Mae Carter (Leroy), Jacksonville, Florida, Rosa Lee Perkins, Macon, Georgia, R.C. ​The funeral service for Mr. Elgen Smith, Sr. will be held at 12:00 P.M., Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Zion Grove Baptist Church, Whitehouse Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

Mr. Elgen Smith, Sr., a native of Macon County, Montezuma, Georgia, was the son of the late Willard Smith Sr. and Lola B. Smith was born on September 30, 1944 and on June 1, 2018 the Lord Whispered softly and welcomed him home.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Willard Smith Jr., Samuel Canady (Josh), and sister, Lillie M. Smith.

Mr. Smith was educated at the Historic D.F. Douglas High School in Montezuma, Georgia. Following  graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country proudly. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Zion Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Smith moved to Chicago, Illinois it was there he meet his devoted companion, Ms. Nancy Nelson. Mr. Smith  was employed  with Chicago Board  of Education for many dedicated  years .  
 
He left a legacy of fond memories by staying in touch with the family whom he loved dearly. Every Sunday he would call family members. He loved blues music and taking photos. He leaves to cherishes his memories to his companion, Nancy Nelson of Chicago, Illinois; his children, Doris Hosley (Jesse), Ideal, Georgia, Edward McDonald  (Tabitha), of Douglassville, Georgia, Brain Dawson and Elgen Smith, Jr. both of Chicago, Illinois, Levoski McDonald (Mary) of Americus, Georgia, Yvonne Knox (Eugene)  and Darlene Nelson of Chicago, Illinois; 17 grandchildren including special granddaughter, Tersonthia Roberson of Chicago, Illinois; 10 great grandchildren;  siblings, Erie Calvin and Robert H. Smith of  Americus, Georgia, Annie R. Harris of Montezuma, Georgia, Percella Smith of Byron, Georgia and Jerry Chastine of Atlanta, Georgia; a great aunt, Louise Lee of Montezuma, Georgia, sister-in-law, Minister Jessie M. Canady of Montezuma, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including devoted friends, Tommy Beal, Charles Burger, E.T. Hosley Sr., Essie Williams, and Marvin Varlow.

The family will receive visitors at the home of Kim Davis, 624 South Dooly Street, Montezuma, Georgia.

Ms. Mae Pearl Denmark, age 59, of 216 Habitat Street, Americus, Georgia passed on June 1, 2018 surrounded by family and loved ones.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 411 Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia. 

Mae Pearl was born July 8, 1958 in Sumter City, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Mary Myrick Denmark and John Arthur Denmark.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Silver Bleedlove, and three sisters, Joann Carter, Ruby Denmark Jernigan, and Elsie Denmark. She was educated in the local schools of Plains, Georgia and received her GED in 1995.  She attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church along with her daughters.  After many years of dedicated service she retired from the Habitat of Sumter County, Georgia.

 She leaves to cherish her memories her four children, LuKeshia Glass (Roderick Glass, Sr.), Maria Breedlove (Jeffery Johnson), Renee Breedlove, and Erika Denmark (Zabien Carter) all of Americus, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Darrious Denmark, Amber Holmes, MyKalia Breedlove, Kaleria Glass, Markel Breedlove, Megan Glass, Roderick Glass, Jr., Cameron Carter, Haleigh Patterson, and Camille Carter; seven siblings, Robert Myrich, James Arthur Denmark, Charlies Denmark, Mary Jo Denmark, Dora Denmark all of Americus, Georgia, Maggie Mae Millener, Albany, Georgia, and Minnie Pearl Campbell, Mississippi, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including a beloved  nephew Thomas Denmark.
