The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 12, 2018 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 111 Johnson Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia, where Rev. Norris Harris is pastor. Rev. Coley Clark, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Marvis was born April 18, 1956 in Macon County, Georgia to Clara L. Smith and the late Cornelius English. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County, where he was a 1974 graduate of Macon County High School. He was a 1976 graduate of South Georgia Technical College with a degree in computer science. In 2003, Marvis acquired a certificate in paralegal studies from Georgia College and State University. His employment history included Prudential Insurance Company in Atlanta, Georgia and Proctor & Gamble Buckeye Plant of Oglethorpe, Georgia. Marvis was the owner/operator of Hifi Concepts and English Income Tax Services. His community services included Meals on Wheels and SOWEGA Council on Aging. Marvis served on the Oglethorpe City Council for several terms and served as trustee pro tem at St. Paul A.M.E. for a number of years. He was very active and instrumental in the construction of the multi media center. Marvis was preceded in death by a brother Dr. Anthony English and half-brother Gary Oliver.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted mother, Clara L. Smith-English, of Oglethorpe, Georgia; two siblings, Milton English (Bessie) of Oglethorpe, Georgia and Cheryl English-Smith (Conrad) of Warner Robins, Georgia; his half-sister and half-brothers, Michelle Davis (Charles), Paul Oliver, all of St. Petersburg, Florida and Cornelius Oliver (Pam), Americus, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
