Ernest Mercer, Sr., age 76, 302 Desoto Seed Farm Road, Desoto, Georgia passed Friday morning, January 29, 2016.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday morning, February 6, 2016 at New Zion Baptist Church, Dixon Street, Cobb, Georgia. The Reverend Jesse Watts, pastor will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

Mr. Mercer was born February 23, 1939 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Lonnie Mercer, Sr. and Susie Mae Evans Mercer.  Four siblings preceded him in death, Oscar Lee Mercer, Winfred Mercer, Willie C. Mercer and Aggie Mae Holt.  He was educated in the historic Desoto Junior High Scholl of Desoto, Georgia.  He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church of Cobb, Georgia.

Mr. Mercer was a former member of the Free and Acceptant Mason Lodge of Americus, Georgia.  He was formerly employed with the following companies as a truck driver, South Georgia Technical College Sanitation Department, Reeves Construction Company and the City of Desoto Fire Department.  He was also employed with Leslie Peanut Gin and Nidrah Plantation.  After thirteen dedicated years of service, he retired from Cooper Lighting as a Line Technician.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Annie Clara Walton.  To this union, six children were born. One son, Jeffery Lynn Wright preceded him in death.

Mrs. Easter Kate Brown, age 66, passed on January 26, 2016 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia.  
 
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Jackson Grove Baptist Church, Pryor Road, Desoto, Georgia. The Reverend Eugene Hall, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Church cemetery.
 
Mrs. Easter Kate Laramore Brown was born in Leesburg, Lee County, Georgia to the late Bytha Laramore and the late W. C. Harvey.  She was educated in the public school system of Lee County, where she attended the historic Southeast Elementary School of Leslie, and she graduated in 1969 from Lee County High School of Leesburg, Georgia.  
 
She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined the Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Reynolds. 
 
She was united in holy matrimony to her one and only love, Eddie G. Brown, and to this union, they were blessed with five children.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She loved all her family with unconditional love.  She was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Gaines Brown, Jr.
 
She departed her earthly life in the surrounding of her beloved family, which include the following: her husband, Eddie G. Brown, Sr., Americus, Georgia; three daughters, Anita Brown (her fiancé, Lorenzo Tullis), Plains, Georgia,  Tyran Brown, Memphis, Tennessee, and Antique McClendon, Memphis, Tennessee;  two sons, Patrick (Kim) Brown, Americus, Georgia, Gregory (Sylvia) Brown, Americus, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Felicia Brown, Leslie, Georgia; thirty-three grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; her siblings, Clara (Joseph) Walker, Albany, Georgia, Ethel Stinson, Atlanta, Georgia, Joann (Bobbie) George, DeSoto, Georgia, James Laramore, Chicago, Illinois, Freddie Laramore, Leslie, Georgia, Addie P. Mrs. Shirley Ann Frazier, age 65, of Buena Vista, Georgia passed Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., January 31, 2016 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Moody Road, Tazewell, Georgia. The Reverend Joe Oglesby, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Zion Road, Ellaville, Georgia

Mrs. Frazier was born October 22, 1950 to the late Wesley Wade and Ella Mae Richardson in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia. She acquired her education in the public school system of Schley County where she attended John Lewis High School.

Around 1984, Shirley and her family moved to Buena Vista, Georgia where she remained. After returning home she became employed with the Marion County Board of Education as a Dietician where she retired due to declining health in 1996. She had a loving and dedicated companion of twenty-five years, Willie C Hicks. She was the beloved mother of three children. She loved her children with unconditional love and that love was reciprocated.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she sung in the church choir.  Before joining Mt. Olive, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church of Ellaville, Georgia during her early childhood and the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Davis, Jr., and a brother, Andrew Baker.

Survivors include children, Mary F. Gladden, William Wade (Kathrine K.), Jessica Frazier, all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Rodney C. Hicks, Sr., Ellaville, Georgia, Pamela Davis (Joseph), Buena Vista, Georgia; grandchildren Rockell Hicks, Ty-Neshia Davis, Rodney Hicks Jr., Ebony Hicks, Alayna Davis, Damian Wade, Valquan Ghant, Sincere Ghant;  siblings Diann Hart (James L.), Americus, Georgia, Willie Jean Perry, Ocilla, Georgia, Brenda Baker, Belleglade, Florida, Katrina Richardson Saylor (Marcus) Albany, Georgia, J.C. Lillia King Ingram, age 92, passed on January 20, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Center, Wilmington, North Carolina.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 25, 2016 at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church, Railroad Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow at Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Oglethorpe, Georgia.   

Mother Lillia King Ingram was born in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia, June 16, 1923 to the late Sip King and Fannie Florence Hankerson King. She was one of ten children: Willie King, Johnny B. King, Allen King, Baby Boy King, John Lee King, Lena King, Amelia King, Minnie Pearl King Edwards, and Plummie Kate King Harris. (All preceded her in death.) She attended school at Rosenwall School and Lumpkin Academy. She joined the Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder Walker at an early age. She retired as a domestic worker.

Mother Ingram, affectionately called “Lil”, was preceded in death by her husband J.B. Ingram. She came to North Carolina in 1948 and later became a member of Gethsemane United Holy Church in Hampstead, NC and later was made Mother of the Church.  She was president of Home and Foreign Missions.  For many years, she served as church secretary. Mother Ingram testified that God had blessed her to not miss a Sunday attending church since 1953 because of bad health. She was a mother figure and raised a daughter as her own.  Mother Ingram was highly respected and loved by the community. 

Survivors  are five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one nephew, two great nieces, and one great great nephew, and special friends, Minnie Pearl & David Kirkland.

Carol Amelia Fowler, age 44, 342 Georgia Highway 128, Oglethorpe, Georgia passed January 18, 2016 at  Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, 114 Johnson Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia, where Reverend Norris is pastor. The Reverend Dr. George Porter, pastor of Shade Arnold Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
 
Carol was  born March 24, 1971 to Minister Phillip Wayne Fowler and  Connie Fulks  Fowler in Ellaville, Macon County, Georgia.  She was educated in the public school system of Macon County where she was a 1989 graduate of Macon County High School.  She pursued a degree in nursing at South Georgia Technical College of Americus, Georgia.  She also attended Georgia Post Standard Training Center of Forsyth, Georgia.
 
In 1995, she obtained a job with Macon State Prison where she was a Sergeant.  She was  employed with Macon State Prison for twenty-one years.  Carol accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Shady Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. David Thomas.  She served faithfully as a Secretary of the Shady Grove Baptist Church Sunday School Ministry.  Carol can be describe as a giving and joyous person.  She loved her children with unconditional love.  She had a beautiful smile that capture the love of others.  She was an awesome person.

David Jerome Smith, age 57, passed on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Minister Phillip Fowler will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Whiteline Street, Montezuma, Georgia.
 
David Jerome Smith was born February 9, 1958  in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Mary Smith. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Jerald Smith, Betty Brown and Johnny Smith.   He was a graduate of the historic D. F. Douglass High School and a member of the Bethel A.M.E Church.  David retired as Custodian after working faithful for over 35 years with Macon County Board of Education.

Glenda Sparks, age 63, 411 Asberry Street, Montezuma, Georgia passed Sunday, January 10, 2016.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church, 415 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia. The Reverend Hosie Waters, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Champ Waters Memorial Cemetery, 119 Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

Glenda was the youngest of the four children, for she was born February 15, 1952 to the late James Sparks and Lelia Mae Bailey Sparks in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Willie C. Sparks. Glenda was educated in the Macon County public school system where she acquired her elementary education from the old historic Macon County Training School. She was a 1970 graduate of the historic D. F. Douglass High School. She continued to pursue her education at the Albany State University in Albany, Georgia in early childhood education and business education.

Glenda was employed with the Macon County Board of Education where she retired after some thirty years of dedicated services as a secretary at Macon County High School. Following retirement Glenda served as a faith member of the Macon County Retired Educators and Associates.

Glenda accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church where she exemplified her worth on the Missionary Auxiliary, Food Bank Ministry, and Church Choir of Magnolia Baptist Church on White Line Street. As the church began to grow, they saw a vision, and the church moved to its present site. Glenda, being a great cook, was placed over the kitchen ministry. She also supported every ministry of the church she loved so well. “Servant of God, well done.”

Glenda lived a happy life, for she was called “Demples” because she had such beautiful dimples, a lovely smile, and cheerful laugh. She will be long remembered for the dedication she gave to her family, Church, school system, and friends.

She leaves a legacy of love, smiles, and many fond memories to her family and friends: two brothers, Johnny (Mable) Sparks, Atlanta, Georgia and George Eddie Sparks, Montezuma, Georgia; a loving and devoted sister-in–law, Ola Mae Sparks, Montezuma, Georgia; an uncle, I. D. (Bessie) Bailey, Atlanta, Georgia; eleven nieces and nephews, Gail Sparks Odoms (Willie James), Contressa Lane, Dr. Donzaleigh (Anthony), Arrington, Kimberly Bass, Cheryl Blackwell, Timothy Caldwell, Craig (Doris) Sparks, Anthony (Shirley)Sparks, James Sparks, and Marvin Sparks; a host of great nieces and great nephews; and a host of beloved relatives and friends, including one devoted, Eddie Thomas Hosley, Sr.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Josh Gibson Family Center, Rogers Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. Reverend Bruce McKenzie will officiate. Interment will follow in the  Mount Zion A.M.E. Church  Cemetery, Oliver Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. 
 
Mrs. Evelyn Hollis Smith was born January 22, 1943 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the late E. W. Franklin and the late Maxie Lee Hollis.  She was educated in the public school system of Marion County.  She was a faithful member of Hall Chapel C.M.E. Church of Buena Vista, Georgia.  After many years, she was a dedicated homemaker.
 
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Henderson Smith.  To this union, they were blessed with five children.  One daughter, Casheta Smith, preceded her in death.  On Friday, January 8, 2016, the angel of death swiftly moved and released our beloved Evelyn Hollis Smith from her pain and called her home to rest.  A precious one from us is gone; a voice we love is still, a place is vacant in our hearts, that can nevermore be filled.

Sylvester Baisden, Sr., age 43, passed on January 10, 2016 at Southern Regional Hospital, Riverdale, Georgia. 

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church,  407 Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia, where Bishop Melvin McCluster is pastor. Reverend Freddie Baisden, pastor of Living Waters Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens, Corner of Mayo and Southerfield Roads, Americus, Georgia.  

Sylvester Baisden, Sr. was born May 28, 1972 to the late Robert Lee and Ruby D. Baisden. Sylvester attended  the public school system of Americus, Georgia. In later years, he attended Jefferson High School online and received his GED.  He enjoyed working as a Truck Driver over the years.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at  1st  United Holiness Church,  325 Engram Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Elder Michael Coley, Senior Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church, Highway 26 East, Montezuma, Georgia.
 
Elois West was born March 7, 1947  to the parentage of the late Green Trice and Mattie  C. West. Elois was preceded in death by her own child, a son Fredrick Trice, and two siblings, Sammy Lee West of Buffalo, New York and Buster James West of Batavia,  New York. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County.

On Sunday, January 10, 2016, Elois West departed this earthly life for an eternal life while in the care of the Heart of Georgia Hospice. She leaves to cherish four brothers, John (Ida) Bogan, Oscar Trice and Jim Trice, all of Montezuma, Georgia and G.L. Trice ( Dorothy), of Bowling Green, Florida and a half-sister, Joyce C. Fulks; four nieces, four nephews (one nephew preceded her in death) and a host of godchildren and cousins.
