Mrs. Evelyn Hollis Smith, age 72, passed on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Southern Regional Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Josh Gibson Family Center, Rogers Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. Reverend Bruce McKenzie will officiate. Interment will follow in the  Mount Zion A.M.E. Church  Cemetery, Oliver Street, Buena Vista, Georgia.

Mrs. Evelyn Hollis Smith was born January 22, 1943 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the late E. W. Franklin and the late Maxie Lee Hollis.  She was educated in the public school system of Marion County.  She was a faithful member of Hall Chapel C.M.E. Church of Buena Vista, Georgia.  After many years, she was a dedicated homemaker.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Henderson Smith.  To this union, they were blessed with five children.  One daughter, Casheta Smith, preceded her in death.  On Friday, January 8, 2016, the angel of death swiftly moved and released our beloved Evelyn Hollis Smith from her pain and called her home to rest.  A precious one from us is gone; a voice we love is still, a place is vacant in our hearts, that can nevermore be filled.

Those that are left to cherish her memory are her beloved family, which include four loving and devoted children, Gary Smith (Kail), Columbus, Georgia, Tracy Smith (Will), Atlanta, Georgia, Laketa Smith (Artis), Jonesboro, Georgia and Carlos Smith (Krystal), Stone Mountain, Georgia; fourteen grandchildren, Shonyette, Sanchez, Ashley, Erykah, Taja, Ladarrin, Gary Smith, Tracie, Dashonna, Endya, Bishop, Tristian, Tajanik, and Leontae; eight great grandchildren, Ashya, Lashonda, Wilbert, Jacobe, Kalil, J’Shawn Smith and Jakayl; two siblings, Thelma Hollis, Buena Vista, Georgia and James Hollis (Claudia), Dana, Florida; a goddaughter, Linda Richardson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bessie Bridges, Buena Vista, Georgia, Willie Robert Smith, Hamilton, Georgia, Emerson Smith (Betty) LaGrange, Georgia, and Lester Smith, Pine Mountain, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Extending deepest sympathy to Evelyn's surviving family and loved ones upon your loss and know that God will provided comfort to you.
Evelyn was a 1961 graduating classmate from Buena Vista High School. One memory that I have of Evelyn is that she was an outstanding left-hand writing math student who loved to demonstrate that ability on the blackboard.
