Calvin Ashmon

Calvin Ashmon, age 66, 221 Croxton Road, Montezuma, Georgia passed Saturday Morning, November 24, 2018.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Magnolia Baptist Church, 415 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia, where Reverend Hosie Waters is pastor.  Reverend Daniel Johnson will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
 
Brother Ashmon was born to the proud parentage of the late Willie Ashmon and Florence Haugabook Ashmon.  He was preceded in death by seven siblings; Willie H. Ashmon, Nathaniel Ashmon, Wylene Amadi,  Willie C. “Red” Ashmon, Delores Peterson, Barbaita Ashmon and Bertha Ashmon.
 
Growing up in the Flint River Community, he acknowledged Jesus Christ as his person Savior and joined the Brown Chapel Baptist Church.   He also acquired his Elementary education in the public school system of Macon County, where he attended the historic Flint River Farm School.
 
After the death of his mother, Florence, he moved to Macon, Georgia where he graduated from North East High School in 1971.  He worked with various companies which included: Reeve Construction Company of Americus, Bus Driver with the Macon County Board of Education and after many years of dedicated services he retired from Southern Frozen Food of Montezuma, Georgia.
 
Brother Ashmon was united in holy matrimony to his one and only love, Geraldine Hayes, and to this union they were blessed with three children and five grandchildren.  Together the family joined Belvin African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as Pro-Tem and later they joined the membership of Davis Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of the Henderson Community where he served on the Steward Board.  Being a concern citizen of Macon County, Georgia he joined the Macon County Leadership Organization.
 
He leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to his beloved wife of forty-four years, Mrs. Geraldine Hayes Ashmon, Montezuma, Georgia; three children and their spouses, La’Shavous Ashmon-Franklin (Al), Lithonia, Georgia, Shannon Ashmon (Malu), Alpharetta, Georgia and Thaddeus Ashmon, Sr. (Jamee), Atlanta, Georgia; five adorable grandchildren, Tyler Ashmon, Hayden Franklin, Alexander Ashmon, Thaddeus Ashmon, Jr. and Holly Ashmon; seven siblings, Mamie Ashmon Mills, Kennesaw, Georgia, Freddie Ashmon (Bertha), Willie J. Larry (Elizabeth) all of Montezuma, Georgia, Elberta Harris, Ohio, Lillie Ruth Ambles (Eddie), Snellville, Georgia, Carolyn Tharpe (Richard) Lawrenceville, Georgia and Victoria Rice, Snellville, Georgia; an uncle and aunt, Joseph Hauagabook (Joann), Rockmart, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Anna Ashmon, Ft. Valley, Georgia, Nettie Ruth Ashmon, Montezuma, Georgia, Dr. Rosa Marie Ashmon, Orville, Alabama, Jackie Hayes Hamilton (Willie), Byron, Georgia, Patricia Hayes Martin, Douglasville, Georgia, Virginia Hayes Johnson, Marietta, Georgia, Leroy Cephus, Sr. Decatur, Georgia, Mary Hayes Washington (Edras), Lenton Hayes, Minor Lewis Hayes, Lee Willlie Hayes (Francis), L. B. Hayes, Jr.,  Monroe Hayes (Eva Lue), and Milton Hayes all of Oglethorpe, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
 
Family visitation and wake services will convene on Friday evening, November 30, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.  We will greet you there.

Eddie George Harris

Eddie George Harris, age 64, 7958 Wright Circle, Jonesboro Georgia passed Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Piney Grove Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 49 North, Montezuma, Georgia. Rev. Alfred Wynn will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia with military honors.
 
Brother Harris was born March 1, 1954 to the late Willie Green Harris, Sr. and Phillis Tookes Harris. Three brothers, Thomas Jerome Harris, Willie Green Harris, Jr., and John Edward Harris, preceded him in death. He was a 1972 graduate of D.F. Douglass High School. He was a former member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after 22 years of dedicated services to his country.  After many years of dedicated services, he retired from Delta Airlines. 
 
He was united in holy matrimony to his one and only love, Camino Nesbitt Harris. To this union, they were blessed with five children, Marcus Sanders, Montezuma Georgia, Secrett Nesbitt, Decatur Georgia, Edwina Harris (Jabari), Shanice Harris, Jonesboro Georgia, and Camya Harris, Morrow Georgia; nine grandchildren, Marcus Sanders, Jr., Makhia Sanders, London Harris, Jayda Harris, Shamiya Ridley, Deyani Ridley, Syncere Nebitt, Image Nesbitt, and Amare Camp; three siblings, Marilyn Fudge (Willie Frank), Malcolm Harris (Barbara), and Jimmy Harris (Annie); brothers/sister-in-law, Camus Nesbitt, Cynthia Nesbitt, and Joseph Nesbitt; aunts/uncles, Nettie Mae Fredick, Orlando, Florida, Agnes Munfus (Leroy) Orlando, Florida, Mary Lizzie Brown, Hampton, Georgia, Betty Harris, Lillie Bell Thornton, and Rudine Martin, all of Montezuma Georgia, and Elizabeth Sutton (James) Lovejoy, Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

John Saul Walker

John Saul Walker, age 74, 309 Cora Drive, Ellaville, Georgia passed Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1908 Dozier Road, Ellaville, Georgia.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Reverend William Laster, pastor, will officiate.

John was born December 10, 1943 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the late Robert Walker Sr. and Janie Clifford Walker. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Paul Walker, Robert Walker, Handsome Walker, Albert Walker, J.C. Walker and Bertha Mae Walker Walton.

He was educated in the public-school system of Marion County. After many years of dedicated services, he retired from Georgia Forest, Inc. as a logger.  He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his health began to decline.

He leaves a beloved companion of forty-one years, Effie Clark Raines; his beloved daughters, Johnnie Mae Walker-Kinsey (Richard), Shelby Clark (Jerry), Carolyn Turner (Norris), and Terrel Denmark (Thomas); his beloved siblings, Sarah Vauss, Decatur, Georgia, Arthur Walker (Mary Alice), Kissimmee, Florida, Grace Brown (Glen), Mary Alice Paggett (William), Gloria Broxton, and David Walker all of Atlanta, Georgia, Evelyn Brownlee, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sisters/brother-in-law, Betty Walker, Buena Vista, Georgia, Annie Bell Walker, Miami, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

​Mrs. Jefferine Murray Sales age 81, 198 Welch Road, Buena Vista, Georgia passed Sunday, November 11, 2018.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, Pineville Road, Buena Vista, Georgia. Burial will follow at the New Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 41 South, Buena Vista, Georgia.
 
Jefferine Murray Sales was born September 3, 1937 in Buena Vista, Georgia to the late Carrie Lee Murray Wilson and Jessie Murray.  She was preceded in death by three children, Faith Sales, Jacqueline Sales, Clem Sales, and three siblings, Emmett Murray, James Murray and Willie Standford Murray.
 
She graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1955. She moved to Brooklyn, New York where she married the love of her life, the late Mr. Clem Sales, Jr., in 1957. She graduated from Brooklyn City College with a degree in Early Childhood Education in 1979. As an educator, she worked as a classroom teacher for the Brooklyn Board of Education.  She retired from teaching in 2004 after 25 years of dedicated service and after retiring she move back to Buena Vista to take care of her mother.
 
At an early age, she joined the New Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church where she served until her demise. She also was a faithful member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, an Usher, and Chairperson of the Pastor Aid.
 
Jessie leaves to cherish her memories: two children, Felice Boddie, and Jennifer Fulford, both of Brooklyn, New York; six siblings, Mellee Best, John Murray, Walter Murray, Rebecca Murray, Everett Murray and Arizona Wilson, one step-sister, Sereatha Wilson, nineteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Irene Wiggins Davis

​Irene Wiggins Davis, age 64, passed on Thursday November 8, 2018 at home.
 
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Rev. Rodney Duncan will officiate. Interment will follow in the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery.
 
Irene Wiggins Davis was born March 7, 1954 to the late Ida Bell Smith Wiggins and Henderson Wiggins in Ideal, Georgia. She is preceded in death by six siblings, Willie Joe Wiggins, Henry Wiggins, Hayward Slappey, Johnny C. Wiggins, Willie Coleman, and Willie Lee Wiggins. Mrs. Davis was a member of House of God Miracle Temple. She attended the public school systems of Macon County. After many dedicated years of service, she retired as a homemaker.
 
On November 8, 2018, Irene departed this earthly life for an eternal life with her Heavenly Father. She will indeed be missed.
 
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Howard Wiggins, James Wiggins, and Delois Wiggins (Orndra ) all of Oglethorpe, Georgia; six grandchildren, Maya Leggett, Antwan Brown, Anquavis Wiggins, Marquel Wiggins, Shondra Smith, and Deondria Simmons, all of Oglethorpe, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Jayla Smith and Brandon Allen, Jr., both of Oglethorpe, Georgia; siblings, Mae Lizzie Wiggins, Rosetta Riley, Mae Lois Wiggins, Fannie Wiggins, Mae Florence Wiggins, and Betty Jean Wiggins; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a devoted friend Willie Ross.

Antonious Denzel Dowsey

Antonious  Denzel “Bell” Dowsey, age 23, passed on November 5, 2018 in Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Josh Gibbons Center,  20 Gibson Way, Buena Vista, Georgia. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, Mt Zion Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.

Antonious Denzel “Bell” Dowsey was born September 4, 1995 to the parentage of Derrick Bernard Dowsey and the late Mary Linda Dixon. Antonious departed his earthly life Monday, November 5, 2018.

Bell was educated in the public school system of Marion County.  At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined Tabernacle of Faith under the leadership of Bishop E. J. Lundy in Ellaville, Georgia.   Bell was very well known in Coot’s Quarter, Columbus and other surrounding areas. Bell was a very sociable, outspoken person, a loving caring father to his daughter the late Journey Nevaeh Culbertson and brother to the late Larico “Pecka” Dixon who patiently awaited his arrival.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving father, Derrick Dowsey (Brenda Edwards), Columbus, Georgia; two loving sisters, April Dixon of Buena Vista, Georgia and Trynesha of Dixon of Columbus, Georgia; three loving brothers, Derico Dixon of Buena Vista, Georgia, La’Derek Dowsey and Jayre Dowsey both of Columbus, Georgia; his caring grandparents, Nathaniel and Emma Ruth Street of Buena Vista, Georgia, Merita Dowsey of Columbus, Georgia, and Gregory Oliver (Wanda) of Americus, Georgia; a caring and loving step-grandmother, Earnestine Dixon; five nieces, Trimaya Dixon, Troytavia Denmark, Jamirra Dixon, Alryanna  Dixon, and Ahnyyah Dixon; four nephews, Emmanuel Walton, Jr., Kavious Dixon, Larico Dixon Jr., and Khalil Dixon. He also leaves a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and very devoted friends, Emmanuel Walton St. Flightz #F4L and Teyonna Lacy.
