Deacon Dan Hollis was born to the late Tucker Hollis and Amzie Tookes Hollis on March 29, 1937 in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia. He was educated in the Schley County Public School system. Reared in a Christian home, Dan acknowledged the Lord early in life and kept to His word. He was a devoted member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church family and served faithfully on the Deacon Board.
Later on life’s journey, Dan met and married the love of his life, the former Vernice Collier. They declared their love and made vows before man and God to never part on May 9, 1959. Their union welcomed seven loving children. Dan was a hardworking man who usually worked two jobs to support his family whom he loved dearly. For a number of years, he was self-employed in the pulpwood cutting and hauling business. In addition, he worked for Stevens Peanut Warehouse during peanut season, as well as Carson Brothers Tractors in Americus. Before retiring in 2000, he was employed with the City of Ellaville.
