The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 407 Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia, where Bishop Melvin McCluster is the pastor. Pastor Joe Oglesby of Greater Good Hope Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Zion Road, Ellaville, Georgia.
Maggarie King McCluster was born May 22, 1943 in Ellaville, Georgia. She was the daughter of Olivia Lynn Carter King and Louis King, who both preceded her in death. At an early age, she joined the band of Christian Believers at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ellaville, Georgia. She served faithfully on the Usher Board Ministry and other capacities of the church she loved so well.
She graduated as Valedictorian in 1960 from John Lewis High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education of Fort Valley State University and a Masters Degree in Language Arts from Georgia Southwestern State University. For 38 years, she taught English at D. F. Douglass High School, John Lewis High School and Tri-County High School until her retirement in 1998.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 16 years, Jonah McCluster, Preston, Georgia; siblings, Melinda King Brown of Ellaville, Georgia, Louis King, Jr. of Rome, Georgia and James Elbert King of Decatur, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Thelma Thornton, Bernice Ivory, both of Columbus, Georgia, and Sylvia Simmons (Fred) of Charleston, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Willie McCluster (Terry) of Charleston, South Carolina, Bishop Melvin McCluster (Shermeanetter) of Americus, Georgia and Nathaniel McCluster (Carla) of Beloit, Wisconsin; aunt, Doris Lloyd of Jacksonville, Florida; uncle, George Carter, Childersburg, Alabama; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
