
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.
Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.
Graveside services are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Walter Melvin Norman was born July 27, 1958 in Ellaville, Georgia to the late Mashack Norman and the late Aretha Terry Norman. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Norman, and sisters, Lettie Jean and Mary Lucy. He was educated in the public school system of Schley County. Walter was a member of Union Hill A.M.E. Church in Ellaville, Georgia. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. On June 10, 1977 two hearts become one when Walter married the love of his life, Mary Brown.
He leaves cherished memories to his wife Mary Norman, Warner Robins, Georgia; a daughter Tenesha Norman, Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren Deshaun, Joel, and Omari; brother Retired Sgt Major James Norman (Vernell), Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, sisters Annie Pearl Archie (Charles), Junction City, Kansas, Claudia Regeida Norman and Beverly Shelton (Lamar) all of Ellaville, Georgia; sisters and brothers in law Shirley Shavers ( Ralph), Linda Alexander (Earnest) and Lee Brown (Charlemange) all of Columbus, Georgia, Tommie Brown, Willie Brown and Kenneth Brown all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Catherine Stanley (Wayne) of Leighton, Alabama, Bernice Chaney (Ron) of Gray, Georgia, Steve Brown (Cynthia) of Brunswick, Georgia, and Stacey Brown (Janice) of LaGrange, Georgia, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends.
