A wake service will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel Inc, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020, Hopewell Cemetery, Hope Well Church Rd., Ellaville, Georgia. The Reverend Lem Wright, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church, will officiate.
Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates to limit the number of attendees at all services at this time. We are limiting the number of attendees to no more than 10 at the funeral home chapel services and graveside services. We thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
Deacon Thornton was born July 16, 1960 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia to the late Ellis Thornton, Sr. and the late Willie Bell Myrick Thornton. He was a 1978 graduate of Tri County High School and a graduate of South Georgia Technical College with a degree in welding technology. He was employed with Davison Techtron Automotive for fourteen years as a machine operator.
Deacon Thornton joined the band of Christian Believers at the Jerusalem Baptist Church where he served as Chairperson of the Deacon Board Ministry. He was also an elected official of the Ellaville City Council where he served for eight dedicated years.
In 2003 he was united in holy matrimony to the former Shearlean Shelton and to this union they were blessed with seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings Johnnie B. Solomon, Robert Solomon, Patricia Solomon, and Rosetta Blackshear.
He leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to his beloved wife of seventeen years, Mrs. Shearlean Shelton Thornton, Ellaville, Georgia; seven children, Nathaniel Thornton, Jr., Cornelius Ross, Shakedrian Ross, Tekendrean Ross, Yaneitra Ross, Carmetrick Ross, and Markendous Thornton all of Ellaville, Georgia; twenty-three grandchildren; five siblings, Mary Morrison, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Ruby Solomon, Ellaville, Georgia, Bobbie (Sylvester) Gainey, Dexter, Georgia, Ellis Thornton, Jr., Buena Vista, Georgia, and Linda Murray, Ellaville, Georgia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lamar (Beverly) Shelton, Ellaville, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jacqueline Williams, Americus, Georgia, Lamar Shelton, Jr., Atlanta, Georgia, and Chris (Violet) Shelton, Chicago, Illinois; aunt, Arlean Murray, Ellaville, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including a devoted nephew who like a Brother Barry Solomon and devoted friends Deacon Sammie Halls and Joe Jones.
