The funeral service will be held at 12:30 P.M., Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.
Please also be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates to limit the number of attendees at all services at this time.We are limiting the number of attendees to no more than 10 at the funeral home chapel services and graveside services. We thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
Willie Frank Odums Jr. was born on February 3, 1951 in Americus, Georgia to the late Willie Frank Odums and the late Mamie Lee Sapp. He was also preceded in death by his stepson, Darrin Ross; two sisters, Pamela Ellis and Lisa Perry; and a beloved special cousin, Marian Johnson. He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. He was an active member of New Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Seniors Ministry. Willie enjoyed reading and listening to Jazz music. Willie served his country in the United States Army. After the Army, he spent most of his professional life in Sales.
He is survived by his children, Melvin Louis, Texas, Kimberly Wilson (Corey), Lithonia, Georgia, Asha Cannon (Eric), McDonough, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Briana Louis, Miranda Ross, China Ross, Darrin Ross, Jr., Katherine Wilson, Alex Odums, Lauren Wilson, Jordan Tucker, and Jaleb Clark; six great grandchildren; siblings William Ellis (Deborah), Annandale, Virginia, Linda West, Washington, D.C., Donna Hooks (Wayne), Oxen Hill, Maryland, and Sara Perry, Washington, D.C.; an uncle, James Merritt, Americus, Georgia; great uncle, Charles Dukes (Florida); a special cousins Tommy Welborn, Michael Welborn (Kimberly), and LaDaisy Battle (Larry); a lifelong friend, David Barnes (Alayo), Washington, D.C; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
