Elder Emmett Battle, age 65, 806 Willis Street, Americus, Georgia passed April 6, 2020 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, 677 Church Street NE, Marietta, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date and time.

Emmett was an exceptional person who was born March 13, 1955 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Henry T. Battle and the late Josephine Kelley Battle.  Emmett had a zeal for learning and hands-on education.  He was a 1973 graduate of historic Marion County High School.  With his interest in cars, he immediately enrolled at South Georgia Technical College where he pursued a degree in Auto Mechanic Collision and Body Repair. Service to his country was also another interest of his; he enlisted into the United States Army in 1974 and was honorably discharged in 1977.  May the service he rendered his country be forever cherished by a grateful nation. He enjoyed a tour of duty with the Buena Vista Police Department for over two years. He attended Valdosta State University for his teaching certification.  Emmett was employed with the Marion County Board of Education and retired after twenty-eight years of dedicated services. His work ethics were not limited to education. For thirty seven years he was a servant of God, carrying and preaching about the Savior, Jesus Christ.  Servant of God, well done, rest from thy love employ, the battle is fought, the victory is won, enter thy master’s joy.

Emmett was united in holy matrimony to his one and only love, Ellen Sales and to this union they were blessed with four children. One child, Patrick Battle, and one grandchild, Patrice Battle, preceded him in death.

Life for Emmett was a pleasure to live, he enjoyed detailing cars, playing basketball, checkers, spades (he was known as military champ in spades), and spending time with his family especially his grands.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife of forty-two years, Ellen Sales Battle; three children, Keeyon Battle and Sarah Battle Brown (Dallas) all of Americus, Georgia and Kevin Battle, Buena Vista, Georgia; four grandchildren, Shaniya Battle, Christian Battle, Kamiya Battle and Ayden Battle; four siblings, Pearlene Josey (James), Henry T. Battle, Jr., Cathy Thornton (Rodney) all of Buena Vista, Georgia and Stanley Battle (Rachel), Hope Mills, North, Carolina; one aunt, Minnie Battle, Americus, Georgia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph Sales, Sr. (Bertha), Buena Vista, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph Sales, Jr. (Louise), Ralph Sales (Sherry) all of Tazewell, Georgia, Johnny Sales (Sandy), Stockbridge, Georgia, Jamaine Sales (Kimberly), Atlanta, Georgia; devoted cousins and friends which include Sandra Fulks, Mary Williams (Freddy), Earnestine Dixon all of Ellaville, Georgia, Benny Sales (Justine),  Minister Ray Sales (Annie) all of Buena Vista, Georgia and Bishop James Lundy and First Lady and the Tabernacle of Faith Church Family.

His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master.' Emmett always wore a smile because he gave many others a reason to smile. Emmett never met a stranger and he always had food for thought to share with everyone. As a husband, he loved his wife as Christ loved the church. As a father, he trained up his children like Proverbs 22:6. As an educator, he instructed and taught his students the way like Psalms 32:8. As a sibling, he loved to tell jokes, share love and display his skills in a game of Spades. Thank you for your service and your mission is complete our Army veteran. Mount your wings brother and soar like an Eagle.
With Love from your lil sis,
Cathy Battle Thornton

To a wonderful servant of God...
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound... your whole body will be full of light. Matthew 6:22
The flame can never start without an ignition of family & friendships...
keep his light alive...God will provide.

I did the business and talking part for this obituary but just seeing this hit me hard! I don’t know what words or scriptures to say but I know you are missed! I know you wasn’t a phone person but I talk to you daily now. You love to laugh and talk in person but sometimes work had me busy or tired. We have so many memories from car shopping to those rides to school from elementary to high school. You use to wake me up with a cold rag, saying get up soldier! Daddy that has helped not sleep late or lay around the bed my whole life. I will continue to try to make you proud and “Plant Those Seeds”! We both can go on and on with words but I’ll spare everyone. Don’t worry I got your favorite girls Ellen and Sarah; I will be there for Kevin like you were for me! All of your grands, I’m going to be there for them too!

Elder Battle was one of those “Rams in a Bush” that people talk about...a true leader, a man of the cloth, but more importantly a loving father and devoted husband. I will truly miss running into him around town because he was filled with so much positivity in a world where negativity seemed to be thriving. Elder Battle could always find a way to make you laugh or smile. I will continue to play my role, as a brother to your sons, and “plant those seeds” as you kept telling me in our private conversations. Rest on Elder Battle. Servant of God well done!

Unc! Whenever I saw you, you always had a smile and a joke to tell! I loved getting around the table to play Spades and hear you tell whoever you beat, "I'm the good Doctor, take two tylenol and call me in the morning!" I still use that saying today! I love you, Unc! You will truly be missed!💕💕
