On July 25, 1944, Mr. Elijah Holmes Jr. was born to the late Mr. Elijah Holmes Sr. and the late Mrs. Exie Kinchens Holmes. He was born in Dooly County, Georgia and the family later moved to Cordele, Georgia.
Elijah was educated in the public schools of Crisp County, Georgia. He accepted Christ and worshipped at the Church of Christ.
Elijah better known as “Lijah” was a quiet person who liked to keep to himself. He enjoyed fishing, upholstering and fixing up old cars. He loved to dress nice. Elijah worked at Helena Chemical Company in Cordele, Georgia until his health failed. Mr. Elijah was a long time resident of the Pinehill Nursing Center of Byromville, Georgia.
On Monday, April, 20, 2020 he peacefully transitioned from this life at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his son James Junior Merrell.
He is survived by his five children Sharon Merrell King (Eugene) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Anthony Paul of Cordele, Georgia, Regina Michelle Hayes, Atlanta, Georgia, Marion Tamika Hayes, and Keon Clark (Keyondra) of Cordele, Georgia; two sisters, Annie Mae Redding (Arthur) of Macon, Georgia and Maggie Bell Brown of Cordele, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Chad Davis, Cordele, Georgia, Shabreka Merrell, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Mykaula Harvey, Cordele, Georgia, Anthony Paul Jr., Cordele, Georgia, G’Quesia Lychielle Rivera, Atlanta, Georgia, Raphael Francisco Rivera Jr., Atlanta, Georgia, Akasha Briana Wedges, Albany, Georgia, Carsaveon Marquez Harvey, Albany, Georgia, Jayden Clark Cordele, Georgia, and Justin Clark, Cordele, Georgia; eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives who will forever cherish the love shared by Elijah.
