Walt Tell Bruce Sr. of 111 Larkspur Lane, Americus, GA will be funeralized at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Bump Head Road, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens, corner of Mayo Street and Southerfield Road, Americus, Georgia.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. Walt was born June 15, 1945, in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Charlie Bruce Sr. and the late Mae Omie Woodson Bruce. He was educated in the public school system of Americus, Sumter County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Mattie Bagley (Ludie), Omie Lee Clemons, Joe Bruce Sr., Elbert Nash and, Henry Bruce.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Martha Kate English on June 26, 1965. They were blessed to love and cherish each other for fifty-seven years. He was also blessed with three children; Carla Bruce (who preceded him in death), Walt Tell Bruce Jr., and Felicia Bruce. He loved his family unconditionally.
After thirty-six years of dedicated services, Walt retired from Metalux Lighting Company of Americus, Georgia.
After retiring, Walt continued working in his yard and always took time to be with his grandchildren and family.
He leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to his wife, Martha Kate English- Bruce, Americus, Georgia; two children Walt T. Bruce Jr. (Bertha) Plains, Georgia and Felicia Bruce, Warner Robins, Georgia. Six grandchildren; Da’sia Walker, Kyaria Walker, Jabori Moore, all of Warner Robins, Georgia, Diamond Taylor, Americus, Georgia, Tony D. Cross, and Jeniel A. Cross, both of Plains, Georgia. Two great grandchildren; Kyndall Walker, Warner Robins, Georgia and, Rylee Williams, Americus, Georgia. Three siblings; Pearlie Mae Bruce, Jonesboro, Georgia, Charlie W. Bruce Jr., Pahokee, Florida, and John (Tommie) Bruce, Sr., Americus, Georgia. Seven sisters-in-law; Matherlene Bruce, Americus, Georgia, Minnie Thomie, Warner Robins, Georgia, Georgia Childs, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Carolyn Hall (Mack), Americus, Georgia, Gloria English, Americus, Georgia, Sonya McKenzie, Americus, Georgia, Daisy Gordon (Alvin), McDonough, Georgia. Five brothers-in-law; Dave English (Thelma), Cordele, Georgia and, Joel Hill (Betty) Atlanta, Georgia Kent Hill, Atlanta, Georgia , Willie Smith , North Carolina, John Davis, New Haven, Connecticut . A devoted nephew, Robert “Bobby” English. A devoted friend, Carl “Fox” Edmonds. Devoted neighbors; Mr. and Mrs. Terry Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Perkins and Mrs. Charlene Anthony. A host of beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives, and friends.
