Mrs. Vernice Collier Hollis, age 73, 3579 Old 19 South, Ellaville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at her residence in Ellaville, Georgia, surrounded by her loved ones.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1908 Dozier Road, Ellaville, Georgia. Reverend William Laster, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at the Galilee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 19 North in Ellaville, Georgia.

Mrs. Vernice Hollis was born May 22, 1937 in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia to the late William Thomas Collier and Addie Lee Morrison Collier. Two siblings, Henry Collier, Sr. and William Collier, Jr., and one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Renee Johnson Hollis, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Vernice Hollis was united in Holy matrimony to the late Deacon Dan Hollis on May 9, 1959. To this union, they were blessed with seven children. She was educated in the Schley County Public School System. At an early age, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Deaconess and on the Mother Board until her health declined. In 1999, she retired from Cooper Lighting in Americus, Georgia after working there for approximately 25 years.

She was a spectacular baker and the “best” cook in the world, and was known for her delicious home-made cakes. Almost every Sunday afternoon, her family gathered at her home to enjoy a feast fit for a king, prepared by her. She loved her family dearly and practically raised most of her grandchildren and even her great grandchildren until her health declined. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and never wanted to let her guests leave without giving them something from her kitchen to take home including her delicious home-made preserves.

Left to cherish her precious memories are her loving and devoted children, Nina Hollis Smith of Ellaville, Georgia, Randy Hollis (Pat) of Americus, Georgia, Steve Hollis of Ellaville, Georgia, Becky Hollis DeLaney (Ben) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Vanessa Hollis of Ellaville, Georgia, Ted Hollis, Sr. (Sandra) of Americus, Georgia, and Kirk Hollis (Michelle) of Albany, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, Torell Barker (Arthtricia), Tameka Hollis, Bradley Johnson, Leticia Edwards Banks (Anthonio), Venus Hollis, Lee A. Edwards, Jr. (Falicia), Yashika Hollis, Tanisha Hollis, Melissa Hollis Porter (Hezorn), Sandria Hollis, Ted Hollis, Jr., Cody Hollis, & Joy Hollis; twenty great grandchildren; siblings, John Collier of Akron, Ohio, David (Doris) Collier of Albany, Georgia, Geraldine Collier Drone (Alphonso) of Akron, Ohio, Mattie Walker of Buena Vista, Georgia; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Lacy Collier of Rockford, Illinois, Glazella Collier of Miami, Florida, Mary Ellen Curry (Charlie) of Atlanta, Georgia, Virginia Hollis of College Park, Georgia, and Lemar Hollis of Jonesboro, Georgia, and Laura Hollis of Racine, Wisconsin; her nieces and nephews including devoted niece & nephews, Ethel Hollis Campbell, Darryl Aldridge, & Anthony Hollis, all of Ellaville, Georgia and Christopher Hollis of San Diego, California; a host of other relatives and friends.
