SPC Arthur Lee Melton

​Army Specialist  Arthur Lee Melton, age 61, passed on November 21, 2020 at Phoebe Putney Hospital, Albany, Georgia.

Visitation will be held from 12:00-7:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Meadows Funeral Home, 315 South Madison Street, Albany, Georgia.

Visitation will be held from 12:00-7:00 P.M., Friday, November 27, 2020 at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.     

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 28, 2020, Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, 1079 GA HWY 337 (Gator Pond Road), Smithville, Georgia.

​Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.

Graveside services are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.​

Arthur Lee Melton was born on December 22, 1958 in Smithville, Georgia to the late Emma Melton and the late Hershel Hicks Sr. He was preceded in death by his son, Kendrell Loud, and four brothers, Hershel Hicks Jr., Willie James Hicks, Stanfield Hicks, and Wade Hicks. He was educated in the public school system of Lee County and was a graduate of Lee County High School.  Shortly after finishing high school Arthur enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country proudly.  He received the Army Service Medal, Overseas Ribbons, Marksman Badge M-16, Sharpshooter Badge and was a heating and cooling specialist.  He was also employed as Laborer at the Lee County Public Works Department for 10 years.  Arthur was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Lee County where he served as a Deacon. On March 7, 2003 two hearts became one when Arthur married the love of his life Lisa Hall. 

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife Lisa Melton, Albany, Georgia; three children, Ronrecus Burney, Jacksonville, Florida, Cornelius Loud, Lee County, Georgia, and James Arthur Brown Jr., Albany, Georgia;  grandchildren, Kaleb Loud, Cornelius Loud Jr., Janill Simone Loud, Reagan Thornton, London Jackson, and Nadia Burney; siblings, Nellie Terry (Willie), Leesburg, Georgia, Minister Charlene (Clifton) Aldridge Ellaville, Georgia, Kate Ward, and Russell Smith both of Albany, Georgia; mother-in-law, Minnie Bryant (Earl), Smithville, Georgia, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters/brothers-in-law, and friends including Gregory Jones of Albany, Georgia.

Everything comes in a season. The season of SPC Melton touched the hearts of many and left a lasting impression that will be always remembered. We don’t regret that he died but thank God for the time he lived. My God’s peace be upon the Melton Family.
