The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 110 Johnson Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia, where Reverend Norris Harris is pastor. Reverend Dr. Otha Everett, pastor of Greater Union Baptist Church of Perry, Georgia, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Sonya was born August 31, 1970 to Earnestine Walters Sanders and the late Robert Lewis Warren, Sr. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lula Mae Hart Walters. One brother, Lorenzo Warren, also preceded her in death. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County where she was a 1988 graduate of the historic D.F. Douglass High School. At an early age, she joined the Travelers Home Baptist Church. Later years, she and her family joined Greater Union Baptist Church of Perry, Georgia.
Sonya met and married the love of her life, Minister William Scott Swafford, who was united in holy matrimony July 11, 1998. They were blessed with two children, Malik and Shania. She was employed as an Office Assistant with West Central Community Action Council of Montezuma, Georgia.
Survivors are her husband, Minister William Scott Swafford, Marshallville, Georgia; two children Malik Swafford and Shania Swafford, both of Marshallville, Georgia; a mother, Earnestine W. Sanders (Rev. Johnny), Andersonville, Georgia; grandfather, W.L. Walters, Montezuma, Georgia; father and mother-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. William (Debra) Swafford; four siblings, Edwin Mullins, Illinois, Kimberlee (Jeremy) Grey, Macon, Georgia, Robert Lewis (Teresa) Warren, Jr., Perry, Georgia, Xavier Warren, Andersonville, Georgia; aunts and uncles, Alice (Frederick) Jackson, J.
