Mr. Roderick Bernard Smith, Sr. age 46, 114 Evans Drive, Marshallville, Georgia passed on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the New Piney Grove Baptist Church, 7126 Highway 49 North, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Colonel Felton Cemetery, Marshallville, Georgia.

Mr. Roderick Bernard Smith, Sr. was born February 1, 1973 to Bettye Walker Collier Smith, and the late Bud Smith, Jr. in Macon County, Georgia.  Because of his Christian upbringing he joined Piney Grove Baptist Church at an early age and there he remained until his demise.

At a early age his parentage continued with the tender love and care of Minnie Sneed whom he affectionately called “Ma” and Charlie Sneed Jr., who preceded him in death. He was educated at the historic Lamson Richardson Elementary School in Marshallville, and was a 1992 graduate of the historic D.F. Douglas High School in Montezuma.

A true athlete, he loved football and basketball. He participated in Macon County Recreation Department Little League. He will be forever known as one of the greatest basketball players in Macon County history - Hornet #34. He furthered his education at Casper Community College in Casper, Wyoming - Casper Thunderbird #14. He mastered several trades but most dear to his heart was carpentry. He saw it, designed it, and built it to perfection. He volunteered endlessly in his latter years to better himself and others. He owned and operated A&R Construction.

He leaves to cherish memories: five children, Roderick Smith, Jr., Oglethorpe, Georgia, Caleb White, Marshallville, Georgia, Roquan Smith, Chicago, Illinois, Tyanna Richardson and  Omara Smith, both of Perry, Georgia; his mother, Bettye Smith, Marshallville, Georgia; his second mother/great aunt, Minnie Sneed, Marshallville, Georgia; grandmother, Katie Collier of Montezuma, Georgia; sisters,  Latasha Barner,  Kimbrisha (Travis) Brown of Marshallville, Georgia, and Shaqwanda Baker of Manassas, Virginia; brothers, Maurice Collier, who preceded him in death, Alex Rumph, Marshallville, Georgia, Micheal (Jouli) Smith of New York; aunts, Maxine Collier and Judie Sanders of Montezuma, Georgia; uncles, Ricky Collier of Montezuma, Georgia, and Richard Smith of Marshallville, Georgia; great uncle Fredrick (Mattie) Walker of Fort Valley, Georgia; a very loving, devoted and nurturing cousin, Gloria (Richard) Story of Montezuma, Georgia (When asked her relation to him, he'd affectionately answer, "Everything."); nephews and nieces, our beloved Dalvin Smith, who preceded him in death, Rontavious, Norman, Jamecia, Cheree, Quinton, Kimbrisha, Rashad, Keishon, Shimeka, Patrice,  Rickey Jr., Jeffery, Brent, Brittany, Ricardo, Rodriquez, Shakerria, Saniya, Baleigh, Tionee, Baliee, Solomon, Jacob, Isabelle; great nieces/nephews, Kalajah, Kourtney, Ayden, Andryia, Klan, Kassidy, Ava, Royal, Kyla, Chase, Kameryn, Katelyn, Noriyah, Quinton, Quentrella, Quentniyah, Quentzahri, Harmoni, Kater, and Joshua; and a host of cousins and friends to his precious memories, including a friend Carina Ann Scott and her children.
