Reverend  Henry Lewis Respert, age 95 passed on Monday, April 25, 2016, at the Medical Center of Peach County, Navicent Health Hospital, Byron, Georgia.

A wake service will be held from 8:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted 3:00 P.M., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Jehovah Baptist Church, 120 Chatman Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow at the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Reverend Henry Lewis Respert was born June 14, 1920 to the parentage of the late Mamie Rogers  Respert and the late John Brown Respert. He was preceded in death by his brothers John Lee Respert (and his wife, Eva Mae), Charlie Will Respert; his beloved sisters, Jessie Mae White, Sarah Mae Respert, Lizzie Clyde Respert; his devoted nephew, C.B. Respert (and his wife Rose).

He was educated in the public school system of Ideal, Georgia where he attended Sunny Dale Negro School. He joined the U.S. States Navy where he served faithfully until he was honorably discharged as an Apprentice Seaman, V6, December 8, 1944,  U. S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.

He joined Shady Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Standback. Under the guidance of the late Rev. G.G. McCarter, he was Ordained as a Minister. He went on to pastor Antioch Baptist Church; New Home Baptist Church, Butler Mill Road, Reynolds, Georgia; Little Macedonia Baptist Church, Cordele, Georgia; and Quebec Baptist Church, Ellaville, Georgia.  Most recently, he was pastoring Blooming Rose Baptist Church, Upper River Road, Americus, Georgia; Mount Olive Baptist Church, Bunkley Community; and at the Miona Dementia Nursing Center every third Sunday.

He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after years of dedicated service. His community services included Representative of the Butler Aide Society and Chaplain of the Lofton McDougald Funeral Home.

He married his first love, the late Beulah Black Respert, and to this union, they were blessed with eight children. Three children, Henry Lennon, Rev. Tommie Gene Respert, and Marilyn Respert Robinson, preceded him in death. In the late 1980’s, he married the late Doris Daniels Respert and his extended family included Rev. Dr. Bobby West and Shirlene West Josey Smith.

As his health began to decline, he moved in the loving surrounding of his daughter's home, Minnie Jean. There, a strong father and daughter love bloomed.  They enjoyed watching T.V., for their favorite programs included “Walker, Texas Ranger," and movies on "LMN.” Better yet, they enjoyed shopping at Walmart where you could see them meeting and greeting friends.  You could see him on the side of the road picking up cans and  paper for his exercise, which created the beauty of the road scenery.

He is survived by his children, Adel Respert Sellars (William), Riverdale, Georgia, Henry Marvin, Respert (Dianne), Katy, Texas, John Lewis Respert (Lonora), Fairburn, Georgia, Carlis Respert Wisdom, Atlanta, Georgia, Minnie Jean Respert, Marshallville, Georgia; his stepchildren, Reverend Dr. Bobby (Melvilla) West, Vienna, Georgia and Shirlene Josey Smith, Americus, Georgia;  14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and host of other relatives and friends.
