A wake will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Corinth Baptist Church, State Route 127 West, Garden Valley, Georgia.
Reverend Governor “LC” Gibson, a resident of Montezuma, GA, was born on Nov. 27, 1939, in Donalsonville, GA.. He passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Reverend Gibson was preceded in death by his parents Governor Gibson, Sr. and Lucille Gibson, and his three siblings: Sidney Gibson, Kelly Mae Cleveland and Larich Henry. Rev. Gibson accepted Christ at an early age and was always a devoted church member. Rev. Gibson attended Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida. During his tenth and eleventh grades at Lincoln he was drum major. He was also known for his artistic ability to draw, paint, and sing melodious tunes as a member of an a capella men’s group formed in high school.
In 1968 he moved to Macon, GA and worked at The Macon Medical Center. While working at the hospital he attended Fort Valley State University. Later he became an employee of The Atlanta Light and Gas Company. He moved to Montezuma, GA and worked there until his retirement. He continued after retirement to use his expertise and skills to help people in the community.
Reverend Gibson was ordained a Baptist Minister in 1990 under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Walter L. Glover, Jr. He was the senior pastor at Corinth, Baptist Church and had served as senior pastor at New Pine Level, Union Grove, and Pleasant Hill Baptist Churches.
Rev. Gibson was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Cherishing the beautiful memories of his life are two daughters and one son: Antoine Rene′e Gibson of Stone Mountain, GA, Gena Gibson of Midway, FL, and Governor Dondre′ Gibson of Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren: Brittany Roberts of Savannah, GA, Christopher D. Gibson and Cory D. Gibson of Dallas TX, Kailyn N. Gibson of Stone Mountain, GA, Cartezs Matthews, and Shakira Green of Midway, FL; six great-grandchildren; his niece who grew up with him as a sister, Rev. Sandra Hobbs Austin (Rev. William) of Milford, DE; nieces Debbie Oliver of Tallahassee, Fl, Deleietrice Henry of Dallas, TX, and Linda Gibson of Tallahassee, FL; nephews: Patrick Gibson, Cornet Gibson, Odis Henry, Jr., and Eric Henry of Tallahassee, FL; cousins, Ulysses “Butch” Hopkins of Columbia, SC, and Almeta Rodgers of Donalsonville, GA, Charles Rambo of Atlanta, GA; a beloved brother-in-law, Odis Henry, Sr. of Tallahassee, FL; a close friend since childhood, Ralph Monroe of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
