The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Josh Gibson Center, 20 Gibson Way, Buena Vista, Georgia. Elder Larry Franklin, pastor of Nazarene Church of God In Christ, will officiate. Interment will follow in the “Our Resting Place Memorial Cemetery,” GA Hwy 137, Buena Vista, Georgia.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. Ralph was born January 10, 1960 to Marie Fudge Brown and the late Ralph T. Brown, Sr. in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by one sister, Denise Brown Brightmon.
Ralph was educated in the Marion County Public School System. He was a 1977 graduate of Tri-County High School. After completion of High School he enlisted into the United States Army in 1977 whereas his period of active duty contain the following: US Army Recruiter 13 years and ten months, Administrative Specialist for 19 Years and eleven months. His service medals, decorations, badges, campaign ribbons and awards include the following: Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (Advance Level, Army Service Ribbon, overseas Service Ribbons (2nd award, M16 Expert Qualification Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Driver -W, US Army, Gold Recruiter Badge. His tour of duty was served in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, USARB Columbus, RC and Overseas.
He served his community as Mayor of Buena Vista, Georgia from 2000-2020. He was a Community Specialist with West Central Georgia Community Action Council and a Program Coordinator with the STAR Program through Macon County Board of Education. He also served on other committees in helping to improve living standard, educational enhancement programs for the young and old, housing, and food programs to feed the needy. His organizations affiliations include: church membership with Poplar Spring Baptist Church, American Legion Post No. 309, Men TALK (weekly bible study group) and Mayor of Georgia Committee.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Marie Fudge Brown, Buena Vista, Georgia; three children Leisha Hunter, Zanesville, Ohio, Lakisha Hunter Echols (Demetrius), Fayetteville, Georgia and April Brown-Swan (Nicholas) Buena Vista, Georgia; grandchildren, De’Angela Harris, Ny’Errius Houston, Kameryn Houston, Ryleigh Brown, Brody Brown, Darren “Mekhi” Reese, Iyaunna Alexander, Damoni Echols and Jayden Echols; companion: Geraldine Thomas; three siblings, Brenda Steward (Michael) Portsmouth, Virginia, Renee Glass, Buena Vista, Georgia and Kevin Brown (Jackie), Buena Vista, Georgia; uncle and aunt Joseph Fudge (Delois) Jacksonville, Florida; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends including a devoted friend, Linda Puryear.
