Mrs. Myrtis Turner, age 76, 514 Travelers Rest Road, Montezuma, Georgia passed Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Montezuma Health & Rehabilitation Facility, Montezuma, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Jehovah Baptist Church, 201 Chatham Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Independent Church Cemetery, Brooks Road, Ideal, Georgia.

Myrtis Martin Turner was born in Macon County, Georgia August 8, 1935 to the late Jimmy Martin and Melissa Haugabook Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Benjamin Turner. She was also preceded in death by seven siblings, Hosea L. Martin, Willie Hill Martin, Thomas Martin, Joel Martin, Nathan Martin, Oakley Martin and Annie Kate Martin Whitehead. Mrs. Myrtis was educated in the public school system of Macon County. At early age, she became a member of Harrison Chapel Baptist Church.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Benjamin Turner on September 26, 1953. To this union four daughters and six sons were born. They built their lives together in Chicago, Illinois. There she worked at Michael Reese Hospital and Illinois Bell where she retired in 1992. After retiring, in November 1992 the threesome (Benjamin, Myrtis and Sonceria) relocated to Montezuma, GA. While in Chicago, Myrtis joined Monument of Faith Evangelistic Church under Pastor Richard D. Henton. She was as faithful at Monument as she was at Montezuma Church of Christ under Pastor Hall and later Pastor Bobby Smith.

During her almost 20 year stay in Georgia, she enjoyed working at Mrs. Hill's clothing store in Downtown Montezuma and traveling. She was a seamstress who enjoyed beautiful attire. She was an active member at Riverview Senior Citizens Center until her health began to fail. Those who came into her life found her to be a loving, caring person. She had a love for animals whether they were her own or strays. Myrtis always took time to offer encouraging words to the less fortunate. She was a very generous soul!

On Wednesday morning, June 6, 2012, Mrs. Myrtis Martin Turner, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home where there are no more tears and no more pain! She exchanged her name "Myrtis" for her new name written in glory.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory are her ten loving children, Protreen Crenshaw (Eddie), Chicago, Illinois, Shirley Ray (Barry) (Harbor City, California), Larry Turner (Ramona), Ilean Taylor (Jack), Tyrone Turner, Benjamin Turner III, Terence Turner, Andre Turner (Lachelle), Tremell Turner, all of Chicago and Sonceria Turner (and her daughter Taylor Turner), Montezuma, Georgia; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sibling Etherene Martin Johnson of Montezuma, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Marion Martin and a nephew, Hosea Martin, both of Chicago; along with a host of nephews including a devoted nephew, Curtis Turner, nieces, other relatives, church members and friends.

Mamacita--It has been 23 days now since your transition. I cannot even describe how much you are missed. There is a void in my heart. You meant more to me than I even realized. Now I do. I'm so happy you are with Jesus and are having a family reunion with Daddy and the rest of your family. I can sense your excitement not only about Jesus and your family but about your mansion and the beautiful flowers. I realize you now know how much I love you and miss you.So long for now mamacita. I'll see you on the other side.

I'm in one of my momma moods and always thinking of you. It is a tearful moment for me, now because you are not here and in a better place, although I need a hug from you and father. I love you both and pray daily and know that God said a lot of things and I believe in my heart that I will see you one day, soon in a twinkling of an eye. I will always love you both momma and daddy. Sleep well.

I met the wonderful Mrs. Turner while working at Illinois Bell. She had such a beautiful spirit, and was always kind and considerate. Thru our many conversations , I realized one of Mrs. Turner daughters, the lovely Ilean, was a former classmate of mine. I thanked Mrs. Turner for raising such a great daughter, in Ilean, because Ilean was just as kind and considerate as her Mom. May God forever bless Mrs. Turner beautiful spirit.
