Mother Lucille Sheffield Hollis, age 84, 334 GA Highway 280, Americus, Georgia, passed Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the Phoebe Sumter Hospital, Americus, Georgia.
 
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Lebanon Cemetery, Old Plains Road, Plains, Georgia.
 
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.

Mother Hollis was born October 30, 1937, in Webster County, Georgia to the late Grover Tullis and the late Quincy Lee Sheffield.  Lucille was the granddaughter of the late Eddie and Louisa Sheffield.
 
Lucille was married to the late Charlie Hollis and two children preceded her in death.  She was the stepmother of six children one preceded her in death. The other five children include Owen Hollis (Lottie), Columbus, Georgia, Walter Hollis (Ramona), DeSoto, Georgia, Jacqueline H. Slappy Plains, Georgia, Carlton Hollis (Debra), Albany, Georgia, and Blake Hollis (Deborah), Atlanta, Georgia.
 
Lucille was educated in the public school systems of Webster and Sumter Counties.  She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal and joined the Jerusalem Grove Baptist Church of Smithville, Georgia and after several years of Christian service she  was voted as Mother of the church whereas she remained until her demise.
 
Lucille was also a dedicated employer.  She retired as a custodian from the Sumter County Board of Education in 2000.  She also retired from the Perry Brothers Oil Company in 2018 as a housekeeper.      

Survivors include the three children she reared: Dwayne Jackson, Americus, Georgia, Annie Lee Michelle Jackson, Texas and Claudette Jackson, Americus, Georgia; two sisters Mary Tullis, and  Brenda Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews , cousins and other relatives survived including  two devoted cousins, Annie Rose Carter and Mary Lundy  Carter; goddaughter, Mary Alice Carter; devoted friends, Robert Holley, entire Young Family, entire faculty and staff of Perry Brothers Oil Company and The Barker Family.

I know we didn't talk everyday but I know you knew how much we loved you. I looked to you as a auntie and a grandma. It didn't matter which one just as long as you were part of our family. I love you and you will be missed.

Sincerest condolences to the family. Mrs. Hollis was a very sweet, kind and humble lady. I cherish all our brief conversations at SCCHS.
