Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Colonel Felton Cemetery, 504 South Street, Marshallville, Georgia.
Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Mary Alice Rice was the second of nine children. She was born February 25, 1937 to proud parents the late Joseph and Gladys Rice.
She attended the public schools of Macon County, Georgia. At an early age, she moved to New York where she worked for Dr. Jones. She later moved back home to Marshallville, Georgia. During this time she held down several jobs to include Southern Frozen Foods, Kellwood, and Bluebird.
She was preceded in death by three of her sisters: Louise Slappy, Bennie Jones, and Willie Mae Oglesby.
She leaves to cherish her memory, five children: Barbara Williams of Marshallville, GA, Gerry (Marion) Rice of Charleston, SC., Christopher Rice of Miami FL., Antonia Rice of Oglethorpe, GA., and Gabriel Rice of Marshallville, GA. Five sisters: Beulah (Tom) Barton of Leesburg, FL., Mary Davis and Lessie Pearl (John) Reid of Miami, FL. Ossie (Gregory) Hall of Macon, GA., and Cynthia Bozier of Charlotte, NC. Three brothers: Eddie B. Rice of Warner Robins, GA., Joe Rice of Marshallville, GA., and Willie B. Oglesby of Brooklyn, NY.Four grandchildren Kelvin Rice of Marshallville, GA., Jessica Ezell, of Byron, GA., Frances Clark of Warner Robins, GA., and Jeremy Rice of Germany. Five great grandchildren Johnathan Wiggins of Marshallville, GA., Kamryn Holmes and Ja’Vona Taylor of Warner Robins, Georgia, Kelvin Jr. and Ja’Liya Joiner of Byron Ga. One uncle Joseph (JoAnn) Haugabook of Rockmart, GA. A host of nieces and nephews including one devoted niece Karen Walton. Five devoted friends: Jasper White, Nancy Fields, Lois Blue, Helen Jones and Albert Warren. Special thanks to Hospice and several caregivers including her last one Tiffany McDanie.
