The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the First Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 191 Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Reverend Jeffery Randle, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Champ Waters Cemetery, Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia.
Mrs. Mary Lizzie Collier-Hambrick, affectionately called “Sister”, was born April 3, 1933 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late Dave Collier Jr. and Odessa Phillips-Collier. Her husband, William Kyser Hambrick, and seven siblings, Annie Claude Forbes, Annette Collier, Arthur Collier, Charles Collier, Christine Catlin, David Collier, and Dorothy Collier, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hambrick acquired her education in the public school system of Macon County and was a graduate of Flint River Farm School, where she played on the basketball team. Mrs Hambrick, after graduating from school, then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she pursued her career in education. She was a dedicated worker with the Atlanta Board of Education Public School System for 25 years.
She was a faithful member of Greater Moses Chapel Baptist Church of Atlanta, Georgia, where she served as the President of the Junior Mother’s Board for many years. Later, she moved back to her native home and rejoined The First Salem Baptist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Board. Her passions in life were working in the yard gardening, planting, socializing with friends and families, and cooking.
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Karen Yolanda Hambrick, Atlanta, Georgia, and Sheila Veronica Hambrick, Montezuma, Georgia; two grandchildren, Jasmine Kenisha Coer, and Nicole Ashley Coer, both of Atlanta, Georgia; two siblings, Bernice Collier (Geoffrey Larry) and Rosetta Turner, both of Montezuma, Georgia; one aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, Montezuma, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Angela Collins (John) Kathleen, Georgia, Arthur Collier, Jr., (Linda) Texas, Jackie Collier, Savannah Georgia, Milton Collier (Beverly), Henry County, Georgia, JoAnn Agee, Birmingham, Alabama, Susan Causey (Homer) Fairburn Georgia, Carolyn Forbes, Claude Lee Forbes (Linda), Darrell Forbes, Elaine Moore, Gwendolyn Forbes, Sharon English, and Wynette Collier, all of Montezuma, Georgia, and a host of other relatives, and friends, including one close friend Mary Harrison, Montezuma, Georgia.
