
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow in Green Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Smithville, Georgia.
Mrs. Mary Lee Allen Smothers was born July 13, 1947 to the late Johnny Will Allen and Johnnie Mae Henderson Allen in Smithville, Lee County, Georgia. One sister, Dorothy Jean Hamilton, preceded her in death. She was educated in the public school system of Lee County whereas she was a graduate of Lee County High School of Leesburg, Georgia. Mary Lee acquired her C. N. A. License in 1966 where she was employed at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home of Americus, Georgia.
After forty-two years of dedicated services she retired in 2008 as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Later she worked part time at Lillian Carter Nursing Center of Plains, Georgia as a C.N.A and the special treatment team until her health began to decline. Mary Lee was a very beautiful young lady and sincere woman. She captured the heart of her one and only love, the late Edward Smothers. They were blessed with three children. Two children, Alton and Murice, preceded her in death.
She leaves a legacy of golden memories to her beloved family which include two sons, Lorenzo Smothers, Sr., Smithville, Georgia and Torence Nicole Burney, Smithville, Georgia; grandson, Lorenzo Smothers, Jr. Buena Vista, Georgia and a host of god-grandchildren; god-son, Derrick Smith, Smithville, Georgia; stepmother, Thelma Hall, Orlando, Florida; two brothers, Rev. Dr. Harry Rucker and David Rucker both of Orlando, Florida; a host of nieces and nephews including two devoted, Natalie Nicole Champion and Rodney Sherome Hamilton both of Americus, Georgia; a host of great nieces and great nephews including two devoted, Jamyra Champion and Katlin Champion both of Americus, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernice Green (Rufus), Butler, Georgia, Lavern Jackson, Atlanta, Georgia, Loretta Smothers, Smithville, Georgia, Reginald Smothers, Atlanta, Georgia and William Henry Bucks, III, Smithville, Georgia; a host of others relatives and friends including three devoted, Mary Hurley, Kowetta Solomon, Naomi Adams, Marie Burney and Maggie Harris.
