Mary Elizabeth Belk, age 85, passed on April 25, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.

Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.

Graveside services are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.

Mary was born on June 11, 1935 in Sylvester, Worth County, Georgia to the late Alexander and Adella Ellison. She joined the church at an early age. She was united in Holy Matrimony on November 17, 1951 to the late Charlie Belk Sr. To this union they were blessed with eight children. After twenty-two years of dedicated service, she retired from the Marion County School District known as “Ms. Pickle”.

On Saturday, April 24, 2021, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Belk departed this earthly life surrounded by her loving family in Lexington, South Carolina. The matriarch of our family is gone; a voice we love is still; a place is vacant in our hearts that can never more be filled.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charlie Belk Sr., and two grandsons, Jeremy Dantrell Belk and Paul Dupre’ Johnson. Survivors are eight children, Inez Johnson (Curlie), Lexington, South Carolina, Charlie Belk Jr., (Barbara), Stone Mountain, Georgia, Carlton Belk, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Cornelia Easley, Palmetto, Georgia, Calvin Belk (Glenda), Columbus, Georgia, George Belk (Annette), Columbus, Georgia, Anita Threatt (Albert), Palmetto, Georgia, and Jo Ann Rollie (Richard), Union City, Georgia; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Beloved sister-in-laws Minnie Lee Chinn, Atlanta, Georgia,  Margaret Walker, (Lewis) Conyers, Georgia and Annie Ruth Stewart, Buena Vista, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
