Martha Collier, age 68, passed on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Montezuma Health Care Center, 506 Sumter Street, Montezuma, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at First United Holiness Church, 324 Engram Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church, Highway 26 East, Montezuma, Georgia.

Martha Ann Collier was born on October 12, 1949 to the union of the late Walter “Sim” Collier and Elberta Lee-Collier in Montezuma, Georgia, where she also attended local schools. She was preceded in death by seven siblings, John Collier, Lewis Collier, Mildred Sanders, Richard Collier, Charlie Collier, Eileen Palmer, and Ceaser Renez. Following the passing of her mother, and although her father was still alive, Martha was raised by her loving and devoted sister Minister Jessie Canady. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and made her confession of him known by joining the First United Holiness Church, which is under the leadership of Elder Michael Coley, Sr. Martha spent most of her life as a caregiver to many children and was loved by many.

Martha will be most remembered for her big smile, her humorous nature, and her love for children. Among those left to cherish these memories are her two children; who were the loves of her life, and who loved her dearly, Laverne Collier (Laurie) of Hamilton, New Jersey and Trent Collier of Bloomfield, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Sharon “Shanta” Collier of Hamilton, New Jersey and Sean “Quan” Collier of Jersey City, New Jersey; thirteen siblings,  Minister Jessie Mae Canady, Montezuma, Georgia, Doris Curry (James), Miami, Florida, Juanita Zackery, Atlanta, Georgia, Linda Merrell (Wilbert), Corine Cochran (Flobell), Freddie Hannor (Sarah), Jerry Riley (Pearlie), Richard Felton, Marvin Riley, Chris Riley (Tarshea) all of Montezuma, Georgia, Shirley Stephens (Augustus), Lisa Green both of Cordele, Georgia, and Terry Riley (Kenyda) of Americus, Georgia; godchildren, Marissa Merrell of Macon, Georgia and Clodelia Mack of Dooly County; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews.

Although she has many relatives and she loved them all, these were often there to physically carry her, and do other things, as she needed them to do: LL Curgil, Branden Gibbons, and Dasjah Holmes. Martha also held a special place in her heart for her nephew, Rev Jeffery “Butchie” Canady as she often talked about her love and gratitude for him.

Her medical situation allowed her to meet and be cared for by so many people who were near and dear to her such as Tomeko Prince (TP) of the Davita Dialysis Center, N’kema Cooper, and so many other medical professionals who took care of her.

As this chapter closes, and her eternal chapter begins, we say “thank you” to the countless amount of people who have been a part of Martha’s life.

A special “Thank you” to the staff/nurses at the Montezuma Health Care Center.

Dear Family,
May God give you peace, strength and comfort
during this difficult time.
We learn from God's Word the Bible that by prayer,
you can gain "the peace of God"which alleviates anxiety.(Philippians 4:6-7

Martha was one of my closest friends during my tenure as Pastor at 1st United, Montezuma. Her warmth and love coupled with her curt sense of humor kept her close to my heart. I loved her and always will. My prayers of comfort and hope to the family, you are loved.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one in death is such a difficult thing to experience. Please be comforted by the promises in the Bible. Jesus tells us at John 5:28, 29 that all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. What a loving provision put in place by the God of all comfort so we can have the assured hope of seeing our dead loved ones live again one day. Meanwhile as I pray for that day to come I ask Jehovah God to bless your family and give each of you the strength to endure this most trying time. For more information please visit jw.org.

I am going to miss my grandmother so much. This has truly broken my heart. Her last words to me on Christmas was merry Christmas and she love me. Man this hurts. Rest on grandma. She will forever be in my heart 😢

Hello Family, we are thankful to God for allowing us to have Aunt Martha for these Sixty eight years, I'm also glad that I had the opportunity to speak to her a few weeks ago, you fought a good fight, you finished your course, you keep the Faith, take your rest, well done, the battle has been fought and the Victory won.

My sincere condolences to the Family. May you rely and lean on Almighty God to help you during this difficult time. (1Peter 5:7) And may His resurrection promise give you hope, comfort and peace that she will rise during the resurrection call from Jesus, as Lazarus did. (JOHN 11:43) Again my condolences.

I am sorry you have suffered the loss of a loved one. Please meditate on God’s promises found in the Bible, where you can find real hope and the strength to keep going throughout your grief. "For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus."—1 Thessalonians 4:14

I am deeply sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in knowing "there is going to be a resurrection". (Acts 24:15) In God’s new Kingdom for which we pray, we will never have to mourn the loss of our loved ones again. (Matt. 6:10; Rev. 21:4) I hope this brings you peace.
