Mrs. Maggie Mitchell, age 68, passed Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center, 2001 South Lee St., Americus, Georgia.

A wake service will be on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Inspirational Church By Faith, 714 Adderton Street, (GA Hwy 30) Americus, Georgia, where Bishop John T. Taylor is the former pastor, Elder Larry Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow at 12:30 P.M. in the Andersonville National Cemetery Rostrum, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Mrs. Mitchell was born August 11, 1943 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Howard Newsome and Gussie Wilson. She was preceded in death by eleven siblings, Deacon Willie Wilson, Ossie Mae Tuckner, Charlie Wilson, Sonny Wilson, Joel Wilson, Howard Wilson, Jr., Lee Otis Newsome, Howard Newsome, John Wilson, Fannie Mae Whitehead and Ed Newsome. She was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. She was united in Holy Matrimony on June 27, 1969 to Robert Mitchell. After many years of dedicated services she retired from the Georgia Veteran Memorial Park of Lake Blackshear, Crisp County, Georgia. She was a member of the Inspirational Church by Faith, Americus, Georgia.

Survivors are a loving and devoted husband, Deacon Robert Mitchell, Americus, Georgia; one son, Minister Henry Wilson, (Charlene), Americus, Georgia; one step-daughter, Elaine Mitchell, Smithville, Rhode Island; one step-son, Reggie Mitchell, (Peggy), Atlanta, Georgia; 15 granchildren, Kristy Jones, Sheri Hayes, Antonia Mansfield, Brianna Lockhart, Kristoria Wilson, Quanteria Wilson, Henry Jr., Wilson, Robert Wilson, Janet Wilson, Laron Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Lemarion Johnson, Parris Johnson, Taej Johnson and William Roger Mansfield who she reared as a son; four siblings, Annie Maude Daniels, Warner Robins, Georgia, Minister James Wilson (Minnie) Americus, Georgia, Willie Wilson (Louise) Tampa, Florida, and Dean Newsome (Mildred) Tampa, Florida; sisters-in-law / brothers-in-law, Reba Wilson, Tampa, Florida, Johnny Lee Jackson (Ruth B.), James Mitchell (Joan) and Wilbert Mitchell (Delois), all of Miami, Florida; a host of nieces and nephews including one devoted, Catherine Williams (Pastor, Alexander Williams) Warner, Robins; a devoted nurse, Gussie Jackson (Andrew); other relatives and friends.

    Heartfelt love and condolences to my Step-Mother and extended famiy members. Maggie or Ma Mitchell as Dad would call her will be sorely missed.

    I was Mrs. Maggie's social worker at Magnolia Manor, she will be missed. All my sympathy to the family that remain.
